I Think We’re LOST

LOST‘s series finale is almost here. That’s right: Just a few episodes left to answer all of those burning questions (and there are a lot). While ABC scrambles to try and fill their schedule with another water cooler hit, let us explore some graphs about the show that’s had people scratching their heads since 2004.

    hurrrrr durrrrrr

  2. iHateLOST says:

Could we get someone who has actually watched the show to mock it? This person clearly has no idea what they are talking about. i.e. “Time Spent by Characters on LOST….sex?” Yeah, ’cause there were SO MANY sex scenes that it merits THAT much of a percentage.

  3. OlbrieN says:

These charts were made by someone who doesn’t watch LOST.
Watch lost then re-do these charts again okey?

  4. thtguy says:

^how about u guys stop sucking thn make a new post?

  5. Greg says:

Oh come on. I am a fan of the show and even I think this is funny. Get a sense of humor.

  6. Josh says:

Well, I haven’t watched the show yet, but now I know that time travel is involved… that sucks. Spoilers should come with warnings.

  7. Sara says:

What was the polar bear incident about?? What happened to the dang polar bear??? I know how some 17th century dude lost his wife, killed a priest and ended up on the island but I still don’t know why was a polar bear was on a tropical island?? Help!!

    • bugybunny says:

Because the island can move as seen in season 4.
And you can find the answers to the number in the alternate reality game “The LOST Experience”. See Valenzetti Equation ;)

Lostpedia is a good reference. Not all your question will be answered with only watching the episodes.

      sry for my english :p

      • sedd says:

“Lostpedia is a good reference. Not all your question will be answered with only watching the episodes.”

        >so… the guys at lostpedia actually gave a call to John Locke, it helped…

    • renewer says:

because the DARMA initiative trained them in cages. whest that means they brought them to the island I’m not sure.

      • Sarona says:

*sigh* (AND SPOILERS) The darma people kept them in cages until they had to move the island- they were used to turn the wheel (the one that Ben turned) because they were strong enough and if a person turned it they supposedly couldn’t return to the island. Which is the reason the polar bear bear body was found in the desert by Charlotte at the start of season 5 I think.

I did lol at the charts, except for the sex bit….because there is only like 2 sex scenes in the whole 6 seasons.

    • sedd says:

‘was the “guy dressed in black” he thought “hey I can be anything, why not a polar bear?”

  8. daniel says:

    these charts are bullcrap,

  9. Joshua C says:

I used to watch it, then I lost track of the plot and surely lost interest
Lost this, lost that, LOST LOST LOST

  10. J. says:

I never wanted to watch it until I was forced to, but it really is a good show. It wouldn’t make much sense if you watched it from the middle or something, but if you actually sat down and watched it in entirety you’d realize it’s not all that hard to understand.

    • Kris says:

And personally that’s why I won’t watch the show. If the makers intend that I should watch religiously they need to step up their gameplan as I don’t have either the time or the inclination to sit down for a protracted period of time simply so that I can understand why this character happens to interact with this character in this particular way.

      • Anonemouse says:

So because you have ADD the writers shouldn’t make a deep show?

      • Medford says:

And this is why there is never any quality television programming. Most networks would balk at the idea of running a program of substance, which requires some attention, because the vast majority of viewers can’t spend more than 3 minutes of time attending to any single thing. I can’t tell you how glad I am that ABC took a chance on this one, and saw it through to the end. Never before have there been so much plot and character depth on television; and never again, I’m afraid. I hate to see it end.

        • Well says:

It’s far more than just the plot and character depth that propels the series. A lot of it has to do with the numerous underlying themes throughout the show, like the various philosophical views regarding society (season 1), belief/faith (season 2), allegiance/servitude and purpose (season 3), the greater good (season 4), paradigm shifts (season 5), and moral relativism (season 6). Those themes, and many others, cross throughout the entire series, but each season seems to embody those particular themes. This show goes way beyond the surface value of character and plot to reach out to the intellectual and emotional sides of the human mind (with varying degrees of success). I won’t say that the show is perfect, as nothing is, but it’s certainly more significant than virtually any series that has come before it.

      • Matt says:

Yes, spending 0.5% of your week on watching a show is totally overboard. Do they think you are supermanz or something?

  11. Nikmurder says:

    sooo
a question from a guy who never saw a single lost episode
    is that so not true?
is that really worth wathchin for like series?
or it really gets boring and predictable after some time?
i’m kinda bored and open for another serial to watch.. is it really worth the time or should i kinda read some spoilers and pass on it? )

    • jktomas says:

      sure you should watch it…
by the way, it is not hard to understand the plot and it never jumped the shark… ever… It is still great… You must watch it…

    • Sarona says:

No, its pretty good. It can be slow in places but its totally worth it, especially if you like shows that leaves you thinking(and a little confused) Its not really hard to follow if you pay attention, I mean, I only started watching at season 2 and watched the earlier ones later.

    • Without question says:

This is the epitome of “must-see” TV. Even if you end up hating or feeling indifferent toward it, it’s just one of those things that should be experienced by everyone, like those “1001 albums to hear before you die.” At the very least, if you’re the kind of person that can withstand the task of sticking with a series from beginning to end, you should have no problem getting through this, as each episode compels you to see the next.

  12. Si says:

Its not hard to understand at all :p.. season 5 was a bit complicated but it only made it more interesting
In the last chart there should definitely be a part for ‘people getting knocked out’ happens at least once in every freaking episode

  13. JayPea says:

What I can’t figure out is how they stay lost. All those characters that show up on the island, are there for one or a few episodes and leave, why don’t they all just follow them home?

  14. renewer says:

i agree with the first one, thats about it.

  15. erin says:

way to mock something because you’re too unintelligent to get it. it’s cool it’s cool there are SHITLOADS of episodes of 16 and pregnant i’m sure you have to catch up on.

and yes, i have a sense of humor. i just think it’s stupid people bash something for not “getting it”. cause….dude…that just makes you sound stupid, not the Lost fans.

    • Indeed says:

It’s like something I once read: not everyone can get into Lost because it’s sort of like taking an AP class in high school… it requires more thought and more time, but in the end, it’s well worth the effort.

  16. brytning says:

Is it just me or does the first graph imply that the season with timetravel makes the most sense?

    • Michael says:

It does. It’s being ironic. i.e. a situation that would normally boggle the mind comes across as the easiest to understand in the crazy world of Lost.

  17. Arsnof says:

Replace ‘sex’ with ‘switching sides’, ‘walking aimlessly’ with ‘questions that will never be answered’ and ‘heavy breathing’ with ‘Jack’s about to cry’ and you’ve basically got the last couple seasons.

  18. dodson says:

    it’s a joke morons

  19. Jeremy B. says:

“Heavy breathing” should be replaced with “Jack crying.”

  20. Jeremy B. says:

haha someone beat me to it, shoulda read them all =P

  21. Chester says:

    No, sorry.

A TV show that goes out of its way to be complicated for no real reason doesn’t make you unintelligent for hating it.

Quite the opposite, really. Making a show overly complicated and then patting yourself on the back for being so clever is just vanity.

That’s why I don’t watch Lost. Because I’m not a fan of watching people prance around shouting, “Ooh, look at me, I’m SOOO clever. See? This is a reference to Indian religions!” Also why I don’t watch M. Night Shyamalamadingdong movies.

Graph number two is 100% spot-on. Someone talking to me about Lost is just…you know, read a book.

    • BrokenInside says:

Alright. Hating it makes you intelligent then, and liking it makes you unintelligent? I’m sure somebody OTHER than me takes that a bit offensively.

    • Pierre says:

So not having any cultural references makes you smarter?

      • Indeed says:

For some people, America is the center of the Universe, but it’s somehow not a melting pot of cultures around the globe.

    • sedd says:

“Hi, I’m Chester, and I’m so clever I don’t understand ABC show’s references”

(“neiter do I understand mainstream american movies if director’s name sounds funny”)

      Okay you made your point…

  22. BrokenInside says:

Haha, that last one is pretty clever.

  23. phil says:

You forgot “Falling in the jungle when running away” I think 15 – 20 percent.

  24. Very funny, I myself see the first season in just several days… but when I saw how it ended, I promise to myself I will never look at it again…

  25. Michael says:

I’m also a fan. These graphs were worth a little chuckle. Sadly, as with so many “Losties”, they have quickly over-analyzed. I mean give me a break. Calling into question the ratio of sex to total hours of material to show how these guys got it wrong? The funniest part is how many people seem to be offended by the inclusion of sex in the chart. Even if the actual act only occurred a few times, Jack/Kate/Sawyer spent enough time eye-f@#*ing each other to make this chart woefully lacking in the ‘sex’ department.

  26. jonnyfrag says:

Any spoiler alerts for basic ideas on the show (time travel etc…) are rather moot. If you’ve not watched it yet, chances are you are going to start now.

Bruce Willis was a ghost the whole time!
    Rosebud was a sled!

  27. bob says:

    one word. epic.

  28. AzureJahk says:

replace the sex section with Jack crying and youl be about there.

  29. Bobby says:

Lost is so loving overrated as it is. I remember watching season 1 after everyone is raving about how great and amazing it is.

It reeks of typical night time tv. In 20 episodes all you find out is, the korean chick speaks english, the old guy was a cripple, there’s a crazy old hag on the island and some other assorted crap. The rest of the series is just rehashing what you already know.

  30. mike says:

seriously. i started it… i really wanted to enjoy it.. but it’s nonsense. i wanted to rip it apart and break it down… but it’s wack. reading comments of those defending it, without a sense of humor, makes me dislike it even more. you morons are eagerly jumping into the trap set by the person who started the damn thread, to begin with. get a clue. step outside of yourselves.. and the distorted closets of perception that have removed you from social interaction.

  31. Those of us that like Lost are just saying that an actual fan could make fun of it accurately and not use lazy “jokes” that don’t even make sense if you’ve seen the show.

It’s kind of like when a show or movie makes a lazy reference to Star Wars when they obviously don’t know much about the movies. Whereas with something like Robot Chicken, they are actual fans of Star Wars and thus were able to make fun of it much more effectively and entertainingly.

  32. JinAZ says:

There should be a graph showing actual show time vs time spent showing commercials.

  33. Jack's Oblongata says:

I laughed at the funny graphs and it is actually quite fitting to have a person who has never watched LOST make them because that’s what most (LOST haters) people’s opinions are based off of…little viewing, more bashing while the hardcore fans lash back ranting about how deep LOST is and then babbling about the story lines and theories that sound like bumblef*ck to all the haters. I find this type of dichotomy just as entertaining as the show itself.

  34. Some dude says:

    Lost sucks

  35. stevie says:

I tried to like it too – but the characters were just too unrealistic (perhaps someone might let the others at the beach know about some of the crap they came across in the jungle, say, like a pirate ship, an airplane, or a smoke monster?), and I quickly found it difficult to care why any of it was happening to any of them.

  36. NameRequired says:

I like the part where he complains about LOST.

  37. JB says:

    Relax, Lost herbs

  38. Question...? says:

I’d be very interested in knowing what television shows are considered ‘good’ by the LOST haters on this thread. While I understand that LOST isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I have found that almost all people that don’t like it are prone to either mindless comedy or predictable cookie-cutter programming that is obviously based on a formula. It’s not even that you CAN’T understand it if you wanted to give it a chance, its just that a majority of you haters need your entertainment to be nice and neatly wrapped up in either 30 minutes or a half hour so that it can repeat its formula from a fresh start next week so you dont have to think about anything.

    • Indeed says:

Good question. Although, I have noticed that, of the people I’ve spoken to, many of those that dislike Lost are into shows on FX (Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck) or Showtime (Dexter, Nurse Jackie), which are neither predictable nor cookie-cutter.

  39. Unrealistic Characters? says:

Of everything I have read on this page, the claim that LOST has unrealistic characters had to have been the funniest. (and to be honest, the graphs are funny) I have a sense of humor and some of the things made me laugh, but I also find that part of the comedy in the graphs is the fact that someone who doesnt know (or like) LOST took time out of their day to create something to give it more attention.

But seriously? Unrealistic characters? Only a show like LOST or even 24 for example, can even have the ability to write characters like these because the plot is continuous. A continuous plot allows characters to develop far more than when it is a brand new story each week. You may not like the characters, but they go through an individual/personal journey and express the possession of complex feelings, emotions and backstories. But thats not like real life? You relate better to people that are overwhelmingly predictable and enter rooms saying a catchphrase followed by a pause for the laughter and applause?

    • Well says:

Even as an avid fan of Lost, I kind of have to disagree, because even shows like Law & Order, which wrap up neatly in one hour, have their main characters develop to a certain degree throughout their tenure on the series. I’m mainly referring to Law & Order: SVU, and how the primary detectives have so many issues that provide the motives for the actions they take in each episode. It’s not quite as elaborate as Lost, but I guess they do what they can.

  40. william says:

Lost is just plain bad story telling. It doesn’t matter how good the story is if you can’t tell it right. It’s like the guy who always screws up telling a joke. Lost doesn’t suck, the way it is being told sucks.

  41. William, on what basis do you say this? And what do you consider good storytelling as far as television goes?

  42. Jahn Do says:

Good idea, but not a super creative execution. Anyone could have made this point in 30 seconds. We get it, LOST is nerdy.

  43. lost fan says:

These graphs are doing exactly what they were meant to. Stir the pot. I laughed at the graphs. I laughed a heck of a lot harder at the commentary.

  44. tahrey says:

Amount that I have been able to bring myself to care

    Lots |
    |
    Some|
    |
    None |=========
    |__________
    Series 1 2 3 4 5 Final

  45. The Disturbed Poet says:

Replace “sex” with “beating up Ben”; that’ll be more accurate.

  46. inteshar says:

first of all this chart makes no sense
1st chart …. how much sense lost makes …… i think it perfectly makes sense…it also depend on the guy who watches it.. the blog guy his IQ level is zero thts why his mind keep flatining throughout all season..lolz

2nd chart ..tht guy is retard..forget abt lost not his cup of tea…. as his question wat he is thinkin wen someone explains lost to him…and answer is he is always thinkin how dork he is tht he cant understand ….

3rd chart hilarious…..i guess tht guy lost his mind …his question the time spent by lost character on island answer…may be the blog guy is obese.and his wife ran away wth someone else….the option he gave (actually finding something out, sex, walkin aimlessly through the jungle, heavy breathing and then shooting ppl)

  47. chrischrill says:

Oh come on, this is hilarious. One of the best charts on GraphJam, and I’ve watched every single episode of Lost.

  48. lina inverse says:

yeah these were pretty funny (and i’ve watched every episode of Lost)

  49. Faith says:

yes.i tried watchng a couple of episodes.didnt get it n i moved on.no Lost for me.
