There is nothing wrong with being a nerd. You would be surprised at how many people consider intelligence as a turn on. It is one of mine, and I find it has also been a turn on for all of the boyfriends I’ve had.

Even though I think this graph is pretty much true…I can’t deny that intelligence is a turn on. It’s when it’s paired with being a creeper sequestered in his mother’s basement who’s too afraid to be a man and actually venture into the world of dating that it becomes annoying. Regardless of what game you play too much (you admitted yourself that you play videogames too much if you can), you are paying to play your life away. WoW is no more atrocious than Nintendo Wii, PS3, Halo, Tetris, or whatever other game you choose to spend your free time on. I think it is because one plays WoW so much, that going outside and putting effort to actually acquire a girlfriend is next to impossible. I used to play WoW as much as I could, but even if I don’t play it as much anymore, its hard to find a girlfriend…I really don’t know where to begin to look….*sigh*.

I hear what you’re saying, I really do. I played WoW pretty much all through 2008 and the early part of 2009. I wasn’t a hardcore raider, mainly just playing with friends, but I did play around 4 days a week, for about 3 hours at a time and trust me, there are much better returns on investment for your time. You can read a book, go work out – and I don’t mean meathead workout, I mean just get on a treadmill for a half hour or take a cardio class – or sign up for a community college/night class to learn about a different culture, cooking, or art. You will be healthier (gym), have more to talk about (cooking/books/art) or at least be one of the few people that actually know what’s going on in the world or the US that isn’t spoon fed to them.
I’m not passing judgment. WoW is/was fun. But I’ve been happier and healthier since I stopped playing.
I like your ideas, and I make time for both WoW and other activities (though I don’t go to the treadmill much, I play hockey, soccer, and tennis). I totally agree with learning about other cultures and what else is out in the world. BUT, I will say that end-game raiding in WoW is a whole lot of fun, and if you stopped before you did any of it, you missed out on some of the best stuff the game has to offer. There is something to be said for the coordination and teamwork required to get 25 people working together to clear an end-game raid like ToCr or Ulduar (and even, to a lesser extent, Naxxramas).
I love cooking btw…have always thought about taking a course in it. Not a big fan of art, but my fiance and I are taking dance lessons so we don’t look like complete fools at our wedding reception!

Oh I raided, especially when they nerfed everything gearing up for WotLK. And it was fun. But it wasn’t five-nights-a-week-just-raiding-for-four-hours-and-not-including-time-for-dailies-etc fun.
My main problem with WoW was that I never felt like I could play for only a half hour. What can I do in that time? 3 dailies? Maybe, MAYBE one quest. That I felt like the game NECESSITATED an hour+ play session bothered me. Add to that the overhead of getting groups organized and I ended up realizing I wanted to spend my time doing other things. Granted, often it is still playing games, but I can put Braid down after 10 minutes, or Metal Gear Solid down after a half hour and still feel like I’ve made progress.
But that’s all just me.
You can definitely get through one or more BGs in a half hour. I log on in the mornings before school while I’m waiting for my hair to dry for 20 – 30 minutes, and I can usually get through 3 matches of AV.
And now that they added xp into BGs, you can still accomplish something in PVP.
So you’re trying to sell me on repeated short runs through AV? Really?

You guys should look around online…there are a number of websites that list games looking for more players in an area (especially in and around large cities). The other thing you could do is ask your friends, coworkers, etc. if they have ever played/want to play – they may know of people who play. If all else fails, get a group of like-minded folks together and start your own!!
Note: remember, caution is sometimes needed when asking coworkers/people you don’t know well about things that are considered to be “nerdy.”
Well, I don’t want to play with random strangers either, it’s not that important that I’d go looking for people just to play D&D with.
I’m not concerned about the nerd factor, just no point asking people I know, they aren’t the sort, they barely even play video games.
Another alternative…
Go to the nearest comic/hobby/game shop and hang out a bit there or sit in on a few of their games. Everywhere I’ve lived that had a gamer store, the store had games 2-3 nights a week open to anyone who wanted to join in. I know you said you don’t want to play with random strangers, but the people at these shops are often quite friendly and funny. And, it never hurts to meet a few new people!!

Step 1: Turn off the computer.
Step 2: Go outside.
Step 3: Groom yourself properly. *Not saying the OP doesn’t do this already, but it’s a common problem among ‘gamers’.
Step 4: Look for social activities outside your limited circle of friends, like a sports team, or group music lessons, or dance lessons (women tend to like men who can dance, even if it seems unmanly to you) so you can meet more people. This will also help with the shyness around women; you’ll have some other social context to focus on rather than just looking at every woman as a potential date; it’ll take the pressure off.
Step 5: Broaden your perspective on women; there are plenty of girls who are also not ‘in the popular crowd’, you’re probably overlooking girls that are interested in you.
Step 6: Get some courage, and ask out a girl. Women tend to like men with confidence. She may say no; it’s no big deal. Take it like an adult; in stride, and find another girl to ask out. She may say no as well. Repeat this step until you meet a girl that says yes, being respectful of any women who do turn you down, and not calling them a bitch or stuck-up or a slut.

I agree. Introducing new social activities is good, but they have to be social activities that YOU enjoy, not just “where the guys/girls hang out.”
As a woman, people often tell me I should go to football, baseball, basketball, or hockey games to meet men. And it’s true – I probably would meet some nice gentlemen there… but then there’s a problem because I don’t actually ENJOY any of those things. (Maybe the hockey. Haven’t been yet.)
I’d much rather meet someone in the bookstore or at a computer-themed get-together; that way I can reasonably expect that he’ll share those interests, and won’t want to spend all his time going to sporting events and dancing!
While there certainly are happy, healthy relationship in which both partners have markedly different interests, IMO it’s asking for trouble to go LOOKING for a person in a venue which you know doesn’t interest you in the long run.
People tell other people a bunch of crap about what they should do. They can’t accept you just don’t care if you’re single. It’s like they are trying to get everyone else hooked too. I’ve noticed the same behavior in drunk people, trying to get others to drink, and smokers as well.
Being single is fine if that’s what you want. However, the graph made by the OP would suggest that he does not want to be single, hence the advice.
The things I listed in Step 4 were merely examples that came immediately to my mind.
Of course, look for activities related to your own interests. The points were that a). you’re not likely to meet new people to date when you have a small social circle and b). participating in organized social activities takes the pressure off getting to know new people, because you’re there to do the activity, not solely to meet potential dates.

Gotta love pallies though. I’ve played ret since vanilla WoW, when it was incredibly hard (but contrary to almost universal belief, NOT impossible), switched to horde and got a BE ret pally to 70, then switched again when Wrath came out and did 0-80 on a dwarf again…I love what I do. ^_^

Of course, it helps that I'm dating a lvl 80 ret/prot pally/feral druid and I'm almost a lvl 80 frost mage…. I've only been playing since before the latest xpac came out…
My wife is a 74 Hunter and I have an 80 DK and soon to be 80 arcane/fire mage. (You might consider dual-spec for your frosty!) My pally is 29 and slowly leveling.
But honestly, I think your more likely not to have a girlfriend if you simply type:

I have dual-spec on my Mage…Frost / Fire. I’m a frosty through and through and my dps is only bettered by my bf’s DK (5.6k for him, 4.8k for me). I have never raided with Fire, so that was 1000g well spent XD

Thats a load of hogwash. First of all, gamers are ahead of their time. I’ve been in since the late 1970′s, and it is way more accepted. Larping is even becoming more accepted. Secondly, you’d be surprised who is a gamer but doesn’t reveal it. I’ve now at the age where i’ve embraced by inner geek, but I had the cool car, the good looking girl(s) and the boss job. Its a sterotype that needs to die.

Only concern here: it does NOT specify which kind of Paladin, so it may be even a romantic novel, a character class in D&D, Diablo II, EverQuest, EverQuest II, WoW, etc. What I am trying to say is: Don’t assume (for better or worse) what the graph-maker is going on about. I concede that, in this day and age, and with such high publicity, WoW is the most likely choice, there are still plenty of other (and better imho) sources of Paladin references out there.

Paladins are a class in WoW.
WoW is the mmo with the most subscribers.

Level 80 is also the level cap in EQ AND EQII… so, learn your facts.
But no one plays EQ or EQII anymore, so, learn to live in this millennium.
I still play UO on occasion…actually, I had more fun on EQII than I ever have with WoW. Although, the most fun I’ve ever had with an MMORPG is definitely UO. (coming from a female player).
What I love about EQII is the customizability. Being able to have your own place to live and decorate is awesome. The crafting system is also much better than WoW.
What I loved about UO was the PK system. Quite frankly, the one in WoW is a wimpy system. In UO if you pwnd a noob you could loot their ass. Nothing felt better from winning a PK than looting amazing gear!

Yes, I am in fact aware that you roll dice in D&D. In fact, I have a set of dice that came with my original Dungeons and Dragons (note the lack of the modifier “Advanced”) box set that you had to sand and fill in the numbers with a crayon. “. My point was, in WoW, a lot of people use the term “rolling” a character when there are no dice, nor even are you assigned random statistics on which you base your choice of character class…you simply pick a race, a class, and get started…I’m just saying the the term “rolling” doesn’t really apply to that process…

Once while I was at work, some guys made fun of my D&D books, until I pointed out that, as they sat there picking teams for their Fantasy Football league, they were doing the *exact same* thing, just in a different setting. Also, I get comments for wearing a Superman shirt… “Hey, whats up superman!” As if I believe I am he when wearing the shirt…but then it’s ok for someone to wear a shirt bearing the name and number of a sports player, and no one accuses them of being delusional and thinking they are in fact that player…
