  1. MrSeagull says:

This is rather obscure. How does stuff like this get to the main page?

    • ted says:

Obscure? Have you heard of Tiger Woods. I believe that’s the reference here.

      • Naoyusimi says:

David Duchovny comes to mind, as well.

        • Leona says:

I’m not sure why David Duchovny’s name is always brought up with Tiger Woods. Duchovny did not cheat on his wife. He has/had a porn addiction. Two very different things.

          • Libby says:

Uh, obviously because they both claim to have a sex addiction. That’s why their names are brought up together.

            • Becky says:

i think porn goes hand in hand with sexual addiction other wise why would they be used at the same time they i think that people that have a sex additction should get help cuz sex is not all about the relationship never has and never will be

              • Becky says:

i have personally exsperienced that problem and it is not fun just sex sleep and work that is not a life its called self control keep it in your pants and dont feed the thoughts or it will get worse and i think its wrong to know you have that kind of problem and not fix it

          • dks says:

You don’t know for sure if he cheated on his wife… It wouldn’t surprise me.

      • areusirious says:

The reference is: South Park an episode just came out with this as the backbone of the plot :/

  2. JOnathan Madison says:

    not funny. makes no sense.

  3. Kt says:

    So goddamn true.

  4. No1askedme says:

This is EXACTLY what I thought when I heard about “sexual addiction.”
20 shiny internets to you, lyds1012!

  5. Dave says:

I’d say he was weak for not resisting, but it’s not a psychological neurosis to have a ravenous appetite for sex.

    • Andrew says:

      +1
I agree. Being weak is not a medical issue. That being said, needing it 15 times a week would be a medical issue. If he cheats because he barely gets it once a week, that is another thing. A one to one honest discussion with the wife is what is needed.

    • Xenon says:

“it’s not a psychological neurosis to have a ravenous appetite for sex.”

*sighs* Yes, it is. Please do research before making stupid claims.

      • Dave says:

umm, if you’re gonna claim research, bring a cite. Otherwise:

*sighs* No it’s not. Please do research before making stupid contradictions.

If you undereat for a few days, you can develop a ravenous appetite for food. You’re not a medical case.

    • Becky says:

self control is what that is called keep it in your pants you see a pretty girl or a cute guy let the thought pass through your head and let it go

  6. mindmelda says:

Yeah, how do you prove you’re a sexual addict and not just a horny asshole?

    The symptoms seem so similar.

    • Dave says:

I don’t think anyone wants to see him play the victim here, but he had to do it for his family. His wife needed some kind of vindication. Frankly, I’d vouch for horny asshole, but who hasn’t been both at some point or other in their lives? I think the biggest reason it’s an issue in the public eye, is not so much that it broke a rule, but that it enforced a stereotype that he was, at one point, becoming a shining beacon of hope against.

    • Sussy says:

Sex addicts need sex frequently. Horny assholes… or people like me who have a high sex drive… want sex frequently. Sex addicts typically have some other psychological need for sex, not particularly wanting the sex itself, but using it to achieve some other goal. Whereas people with high sex drives want sex for sex. The reason for a lot of peoples confusion and uncomfortableness is because having a high sex drive, particularly a woman having a high sex drive, is considered abnormal. So much to the point that my friends thought I was a sex addict because I wanted sex pretty much every day. Twice a day if I could get it. One in the morning, one at night… maybe a little on a rainy afternoon. But that’s just a high sex drive. I could go without, and have, for the past 5 months.

  7. Andrew says:

Sometimes it’s neither. Sometimes the man just makes a wrong choice and cheats instead of talking to the wife/girlfriend. It’s not because he needs ‘excessive’ amounts of sex, just more than the women wants.

    • Xenon says:

Yeeeeeeah… if he or she is too stupid to talk to his partner and they don’t have any (real) conditions that explain their actions, you won’t find me giving them any sympathy.

  8. ZoomaBaresAll says:

Wonderful. It’s good to know that after 500 years of modern science, the world still has a burn-the-witch approach to dealing with addiction. How selfish of Tiger for being in the grip of a compulsion he can’t control. Doesn’t he know how wrong it is? Why can’t he be normal, like every other fat slob in America? I mean, he’s perfectly normal in every other area of his life.

  9. QQ says:

I think south park explained this…excellent episode, hope they keep it up.

  10. roa says:

I think it should be made clear that most sex addicts report not actually enjoying sex. They are often filled with self-hatred, and they do go through withdrawal. Sex-addicts are known to bring home anyone they can find who’s willing, and will go to extreme and often dangerous lengths to get it.

Tiger Woods claiming to be a sex-addict is making light of what has been acknowledged by the medical community as a serious medical condition and he should be ashamed of himself, as should everyone who uses it as an excuse.

He’s not an addict; he just suffers from the same thing that most celebrities and politicians suffer from- lack of accountability. Be told you’re above everyone else long enough and eventually you’ll believe you’re above the rules too. Why do you think there are so many scandals in Washington? The sheer percentage is totally out of whack with reality.

    • sara bellum says:

      Totally agree with you.

    • Wordaddict says:

Thank you for what you said here about sex addiction. I didn’t think about Tiger Woods when I read this, I thought about people I know who have actually contended with this. This caption represents a failure of both knowledge and compassion.

  11. St says:

I think this is between Tiger and those close to him. What, when he married his wife did he marry the nation? Besides, did Tiger Woods ever mention sex addiction? Or was it ABC and CNN postulating yet again?
Secondly, sex is treated with a pretty sick attitude in this culture anyway. It’s just a sense that can be abused like any other, thus, addiction can form from it.

    • Xenon says:

Are you saying The Sixth Sense… was… ewwwwwww…

News flash: Sex is not a sense. Learn the words you are saying.

      • St says:

Well, technically, just orgasm would be connected to the sense of touch, but an action, like eating or listening. I’ll think about it more next time for ya…

        • Trevor says:

FYI sexual addiction is not “developed through over-use.” It stems from being sexually abused at a young age, either physically or mentally. The mind then attributes this abuse to “normality,” causing the individual to unconsciously seek self-destructive means of reliving this torture over and over.

It is not for pleasure, it is for self-loathing. It becomes compulsive until it’s all the individual can think about, and not in a “perverted” way, in a “can’t live a normal life unless I hurt myself soon” way.

  12. Jennatalia says:

So, I guess someone watched South Park last night?

  13. evildeadedd says:

I am perfectly willing to accept sexual addiction as a legit problem, on one condition. The “addict” never has sex with ANYONE EVER again, including masturbation. An alcoholic isn’t allowed to only drink one kind of vodka, a crackhead isn’t allowed to only smoke rocks from one dealer, so why then are sex addicts allowed to still have sex within a relationship?

    • Xenon says:

Err… all of those can be treated with enough care and attention. All three of those could, eventually, go back to the cause of their addiction and not spiral out of control again.

    • Trevor says:

You understand, of course, the difference between a deeply troubling psychological problem and a chemical reliance through substance abuse, right?

  14. sjs says:

This graph would be better if there was no green at all.

  15. Kelsie says:

There are 1337 votes right now. I can’t bear to add mine.

  16. Charlie says:

Its a disease with doctors and medicine and everything…
    Chaz Michael-Michaels has it…..
    haha
