FURST
You cant even spell it right…
It is because McFirst understands the true meaning of college (not like the rest of you losers here) and did not waste his/her time on learning how to spell and other nonsenses they make you do in college…
THURTY NINETH
I dunno, for me it was about 70% sitting around on my ass procrastinating, 20% late-nights playing D&D, and 10% “oh yeah I’m actually here to get an education.”
But in high school… hmm. probably 50% “actually here to get an education,” 20% “omg I can finally find people to play D&D with I hope,” and 10% sitting around on my ass procrastinating.
Where’s the missing 20% in high school?
Pot.
Math was never my strong subject. Perhaps “avoiding liberal education courses in areas I suck at” would’ve been a good fit?
that leaves… gym? or art?
Yea, and am in college…..and at the moment am writing that message, am exiting Adobe Flash….(in the tech. I am in, it’s multimedia integration….thing….,…the only thing I like less it’s Javascript…..)….so am almost always infront of a PC…and those danm Mac…
GO D&D!!!!!!!
just wondering is english a second language for you? i notice you leave the word “i” out of your sentences
Good god the stress part is true.
Sex and beer are the only things America wants these days. The only reason the “Parties” margin is there is because the bastards want beer..
And I live there.. Do you think the abuse of alcohol is what’s turning us into a bunch of idiots? I mean, if your mother was a drunk (even during pregnancy) do you honestly think you would have turned out okay?
Some random troll: “Sum1 elze tihnk bout dat wile i get a beeer./”
See what I mean? Seriously, someone reading this may, in fact, have that exact thought.
Might want to get that schizophrenia/multiple personality checked out =P
ben, I agree.
Thanks!
Beer<<<<<Pot
If you spend your educational career seeking beer, sex, and parties, then that’s what you’ll find. If you want four gruelling years, you can find that too. The ideal solution lies somewhere in between. so you get decent marks but also have some fond, non-library related memories to look back upon. Your high school guidance counsellor was right. It’s what you make of it.
Agreed on this. Granted that senior year crunch SUCKS no matter how you look at it, unless you didn’t really want to graduate with good marks anyway. Other than that I’d like to think I balanced work and fun pretty well.
I completely agree with you good advice
4 to 6 years? is that to account for 1 to 3 years of failing? or does it take 4 years get a degree in the US.
3 years here to get your bachelors degree, 4 for bachelors with honours or bachelors with post grad diploma, 5 years for bachelors with masters, 6 years and you walk out with a doctoral degree… or at least you should (and I know people who’ve gone from high school to bachelors to PHD in 4 years… and of course.. a far few who’ve taken a lot lot longer).
4 years for a Bachelors, 6 for a Masters, and that’s assuming you follow their timetable and take all recommended classes EVERY semester.
By the time I’M done, my bachelors will have taken 11-12 years (but I’m a part timer).
Sadly, this isn’t just applicable to HS. A convo I overheard involving three (god, I hope they were) freshman at UAlbany in NY:
“It’s fine to WANT straight A’s, but if you spend all your time studying and doing homework you’re going to miss college.”
I should say, PART of a convo.
Actually that is fairly true. Part of the importance of the college experience is the social aspect. That doesn’t mean you should go out and party all the time, but if ALL you do is homework and you stay shut in your room, you miss out on connections and experiences that can actually help further your personal growth (and your career) later in life.
You just have to know how to balance it. I mean, get all your homework done but don’t be a shutin and spend all the rest of your time studying. Get out, walk the campus, enjoy life – among other things it’ll prevent some of the burnout that happens when you push yourself too hard.
College is stressful? Guess I’m doing it wrong. But I’m still undergrad… Kir had it right. Kir should make a graph instead.
This graph is pretty much correct for international students.
I mean for American’s studying overseas.
Maybe not if you’re malaysian studying engineering or sumfin.
I’m in high school, I always thought of college as a place where you’re more free with your education. like, there’s no “stop eating in class” or “don’t write in blue pen” (these being little things obviously), it’s more like you can do what you want, as long as you get your work done and make sure you’re doing well at whatever you’re doing. i do NOT think college is a place for booze, sex, and parties. It’s a place to learn & have a social life in a more free environment. i think i’m right on this one.
social life in a more free environment == booze, sex, and parties.
Much to learn, you still have, young one.
social life in a more free environment = walking to wegman’s at 4 am with your other friends who are procrastinating, coloring your hair blue for the heck of it, and going on spontaneous weekend roadtrips.
social life in a more free environment that you can’t remember most of, gets you stds and your scholarship taken away = booze, sex, and parties.
Just don’t room with the people who choose the second one. ><
Really? I’m still in high school, and I’ve always imagined college as six years of stress, work, studying and pain…
I’m sure that many HS students believe that, but based on the depiction of college in comedies aimed at high schoolers, this is probably the idea you’d come away with.
It’s not *that* bad (and I did well), but the first year is tough.
Grad school, though… that’s a different story.
Me, I’m in it for the holy hand grenades. Ask about this story and I will tell you.
I ask?
DON’T!! oh noes, it wanted attention … now it got attention… now it will be unstoppable…. aaaaaghhh, save yourselves!!
College perception of High School: Daycare!
It depends greatly on your degree program. Some are easier than others. That said there is a strong (although not direct) correlation between challenge level of the program and marketability of the degree. If its an easy degree, everybody knows it, and you will be respected and paid accordingly. Looking at you elementary ed and MBAs.
I took one of the hardest programs in one of the reputably hardest schools in the country. I’m currently working in something utterly irrelevant to my degree because nobody’s hiring in my field.
The scary thing is I’m actually quite enjoying it, and there’s potential for advancement too. So, basically, I wasted four years of my life
Haha anything who really thinks like this chart is gonna get screwed in college. It all depends on what college you go to. A lot of high level colleges upstate are freakin party colleges, I didn’t think they’d be like that xD it’s half and half I’d say, just to be safe.
When I was in hs I thought college was gonna be just sleep, study, sleep, study xD
so, what if our high school career consists of booze, sex and parties?
this graph is a fail.
This is a highly innacurate stereotype.
It’s supposed to be globalizing because that’s what makes it funny. Loosen up a bit and just go with it. I thought differently than the pie chart, but it’s still pretty funny. learn how to recognize a joke.
heres a joke I heard, it seems vaguely relevent:
Pick two:
1. good grades
2. adequate sleep
3. social life
Welcome to college
