that always gets me and 911 too

  9. p. h. says:

    How about 1492? Or 2001?

  10. Crow says:

    I got the 69 after 10 minutes… -.-’

  11. Me says:

Any Rush fans out there – how about 2112

  12. Amanda says:

    1337? Huh?

    Depeche Mode – 101 perhaps?

  14. cats says:

    So what’s 97?

  15. forge says:

69: maybe, if you’re FOURTEEN. And MALE.

  16. Savato says:

Just swap 69 with 1337 and it’s pretty accurate for me.

And how could you forget the meaning of life?

  17. Z says:

    just sad 42 isn’t there.

    • Crow says:

what on earth is 42? T-T

      • stephenbayer says:

42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything. we just haven’t figured out the question yet.

        • fuzzball says:

The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything was revealed in “Mostly Harmless.” If I remember correctly, it is “What do you get if you multiply six by nine?”

          • K2 on Alcatraz says:

Actually, that was the slightly altered Ultimate Question that could be found in the innermost workings of any human’s brain. It was something about the fact that every human had the Question somewhere in the back of their mind, but they evolved wrong, and the Question’s ‘files’ or whatever were corrupted. I think. It was when Arthur and Ford were stuck on that planet with the humans that evolved the ‘right’ was, and then they made the stones that had letters and pulled them out of the bag…?

            • Bionelly says:

I thought that it was that the “program” hadn’t actually finished yet, so that was why the Question was wrong. I’m not sure how that works with the Scrabble thing, though.

              • kate says:

No, the computer found the answer to life, the universe and everything, but they needed a bigger computer to figure out the question. That was Earth but it was destroyed.

They instead decided to make up a question: “How many roads must a man walk down?”

                • Bionelly says:

Yeah, but it was the Earth’s program I was referring to. It was destroyed before the program was complete, which (I thought) was why the Question was wrong. I believe they made up a question because Arthur didn’t want them cutting into his brain, plus they figured that one sounded profound enough to satisfy their people (I could be wrong about some of this, though. It’s been about 7 years since I last read the books).

        • Vermin says:

          Wasn’t that 24?

  18. Rikki Tikki says:

    what about 2319??

  19. uh... says:

I’m guessing none of you saw the movie 2012 then rite?

    • Poobot says:

We did, but we know it sucks and therefore do not acknowledge it.

2012 should be noted because of the Mayan’s prediction, not the garbage movie about it.

  20. A. P. Erson says:

    Not getting the 69 thing…..

  21. bababab says:

    Room 101, from 1984, I’m guessing

  22. mackenzie says:

i dont get any of these…. cept 911 and 666

  23. Crystal Kyuuketsuki says:

    …69? Why?

  24. emptyshell says:

am i really the first person to mention 34? :-D

  25. Nine says:

I’m shocked that many people here don’t get what 69 means

  26. cheribom says:

69 is a sexual position people! Jeez!

    • confused says:

      what do you mean?!

      • cheribom says:

Really? Just in case you’re not joking…..
It’s concurrent oral sex. Just in the same way that the number 69 looks the same when turned upside down, two people with their mouths on each other genitals will look like one person right-side-up and one person upside-down whichever way you look at them.

  27. Murilo says:

Am I the first one to get why of the 97 in the graph? Look who made it… “Little-J-97″

  28. Juanpa says:

    and 2012?

  29. TacoMan72 says:

Pi, 42, you all beat me to those. What about…..

    ITS OVER 9000!

  30. jmthetank says:

    69, 911, and 666 I know. 1337 I wish I didn’t know (I freaking hate “leet” speak.)

    97 and 101, however, I simply don’t get.

I still can’t believe that 42 was left out.

  31. Boo says:

For the love of god, just use Urban Dictionary for 69. It’s not that hard to figure out.

  32. Dexaan says:

    Where’s 9001? It’s over 9000!

  33. Catbunny says:

    404
    1138
42 (is there an echo in here?)
So many numbers that grab my attention missed!
‘course I had no idea on 97 or 101. *shrug*

    • mngnt says:

yep, I mis good old 404 too.
1138 isn’t too populat tho, not many ppl have seen the movie I guess.
42 – I am ashamed, I haven’t seen the movie nor did i read the book YET, but it gets my attention, too.

    • Stefan says:

Yeah, I couldn’t find 404 on the graph either!

  34. Giant says:

First thing I thought of when I saw 97 was that it’s the highest prime number below 100. (Which means the only positive integer that can divide 97 is 97 itself and 1)

As for other numbers of interest, 1729 comes to mind.
It’s the lowest possible sum of two cubed numbers.
    (1^3 + 12^3 = 1729 = 9^3 10^3)

    • Sinistrad says:

I agree, Giant. I believe this is what the author was going for as well. Clearly, 99.99% of the populace would never arrive at that conclusion. You and I appear to be the only ones thus far! :)

  35. douglas says:

    wat of 42
    and wat is 1337

  36. Ryan says:

    You missed 42 XD

  37. Oozed says:

Hm, to make it more contemporary I would add 2012.

    Also, 23.

And show some love for 97! It is the biggest prime number with two digits!

  38. Russian says:

69 WIN! You forgot ovar nine thousand, though.

  39. No one... says:

64!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ABOUT 64!!!!!! OMFG!!!!! ARE THERE NO OTHER BEATLES FANS HERE!!!!!!!

  40. Dave says:

    where the hell is 37?

    • askewniverse says:

      Exactly! Graph fail.

Side point: Arguably, 1066 is more significant than 1337.

      • Pew Pew says:

The graph isn’t about significance, it’s about how quickly certain numbers are recognized.

        • Bionelly says:

That’s true, but I probably recognize both of those about equally. I actually just noticed 1066 in somebody’s address earlier tonight.

          • poodle_face says:

But to be fair, this is a graph by an American (I am guessing, based on the 911). So maybe 1066 isn’t as familiar to them as it is to others. Same as 999, 118 and 1666.

            • Bionelly says:

Well, I’m an American. :P I just also like to read a lot, and while history isn’t my favorite subject, I guess I’ve still run into that number enough for it to stand out to me. I am probably an exception, though, and I don’t really recognize those other numbers.

    • joe says:

      In a row?!?

  41. Whidou says:

    42 !
How could you forget 42 ?
    Unforgivable !

  42. Ace5762 says:

interestingly, the symbol 6 is arabic for 7-
I guess the devils number for them is 777.

  43. names are for whores says:

    Number 9… Number 9… Number 9…

  44. simmaster says:

    You forgot 42 and 2012 :P

  45. Christopher says:

    This isn’t even funny.

  46. Chaletica says:

    For me, 1337 is instant.

  47. Limrasson says:

    They forgot 42.

  48. MasterKitteh says:

    Forgot 420 and 2012! ;)

  49. Watson says:

hah, i work at a burger joint and every time i call out order number 69 everyone cheers :D

  50. Jokerman says:

They forgot 19… then again, thats more for Stephen King Fans…

  51. fish eye no miko says:

What about 13? That kinda gets my attention. Also any number made of nothing but “4″s (44, 444,444, etc). but that’s because I’m a nerd.

  52. Crow says:

Well where is the 4? O well that’s only for Japanese horror movie fans I guess…
Then what about Final Destination’s 180?

  53. Naknak says:

101… as in Vault 101 from Fallout 3. Yes, please. lol

    • poodle_face says:

I’m guessing that Vault 101 is a reference to Room 101 from 1984. (On a related note, a few years ago on Big Brother, one of the contestants went on a long rant about how sexist the show was and “why isn’t it called Big Sister”. Sometimes I weep for the future of humanity….)

  54. Nostalgic says:

    Where is 8675309??

  55. coyoteman says:

That’s a big 10-4 good buddy! Yeah I’m that old.

  56. Pew Pew says:

I don’t get 97, but that’s probably also why 97 is listed with No Connection. I get the others. My graph would be 97: No Connection; All the others: Instant

  57. spudafett says:

    What about “4815162342″????

  58. Kelly says:

I understand 666, 911, but dont understand why your saying 37 would stand out

  59. the guy who peed his pants at school but got away with it by pretending he spilled lemonade and stink bomb. says:

    cool
and u missed out 57(tomato ketchup), 99(chocolate thingy), and something else which i forget :)

  60. p says:

    23. everywhere.

  61. poodle_face says:

I’m guessing that 24601 isn’t there because I’m the only one who’s heard of it? (Please let that not be true – that would be quite depressing).

    • asteroid says:

maybe it didn’t make the cut because we’re used to hearing it sung dramatically and not actually seeing it written?

      • poodle_face says:

I suppose, but in the last week I have only seen 666 written down, and that was because a webcomic got up to that strip number. (And, obviously, I have seen them written down here).

  62. poodle_face says:

Oddly, the only thing that pops in to my head when I hear “69″ is Bill and Ted….

  63. poodle_face says:

25.807 – this tends to get my attention, but that’s probably cause I am a bit of a maths freak.

  64. Simon says:

    STUNT 101

  65. Moscow says:

    Giggity. 69.
..And what about 2012? That grabs my attention, and makes me piss myself in fear.

  66. DanSar says:

Cmon nobody knows what 69 is!? Keanu Reeves? Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure? Where were you guys in the 80’s.

Except for the 14 year old.

  67. DanSar says:

My bad everybody except poodle_face. I read the comments from the top.

  68. YellowBrand says:

    5150?

  69. midnightx10 says:

    Y’know what this graph needs? 867-5309, 4 8 15 16 23 42 (or just 42)

  70. kalllllt:) says:

    404, 42 und 34 are definitely missing

  71. gabicoesil says:

dude this thing about kids not knowing about 69 is ridiculous!!! i knew what it was by the time i was like 10 or something. only really retarded people that never used the internet or watched TV or listened to ANY joke out there wouldn’t know what it is by the time they’re FOURTEEN!!

  72. ChewySmokey says:

    what about 37?

  73. Andy says:

For me, the most “attentionwanting” number is 64.

  74. Anna? says:

    99 luft balloons??

  75. Jamsta says:

    1337 should be higher.

  76. silvercat486 says:

    905! 515!
    (hint: smash the guitar!!!)

  77. persoopelis says:

    you forgot 1984.

  78. persoopelis says:

    you forgot 1984 and 9000+

  79. Lugubert says:

I’m afraid that most Swedes, at least of pre-Internet age, only link 69 to the Sanderson whisky. And your emergency number 911 is our 112. And your 9/11 is our 2001-09-11 or, for short, 11/9.

  80. KittehKitsune says:

And nobody’s even thought about 90210.
