  1. amocksun says:

So true. Anyone who has worked at Gamestop knows this too well.

    • Noah says:

The ESRB people seem to be, very efficiently, douches about everything, although when you buy the game it seems to be the other way around.

“ZOMG NOAH – It’s rated T?” “Hmm lets see why.. “Mild Violence”

Thats an actual scene from my life.
You know you have to be 17 to play T rated games?

Ever heard of Cameo? Yeah that shapeshifting fairy game? Rated T.

Cleavage actually isn’t in that many games, but the very few such as tomb raider.. boy.. WHAT ARE THOSE.. TRUCK TIRES?!

  2. Wakka Wakka says:

My parents actually had a bigger problem with language than anything else

  3. Andy says:

I never let my kids see Al Gore. You do mean Al Gore, right?

  4. Duncan says:

I’ve never really understood that. All children see nude breasts from the day they’re born; what’s the big deal?

    • blah says:

Because to some people nudity is offensive. Also, eventually kids will grow up and not need that anymore.

    • Velpine says:

Lots of parents are more ashamed of their sexual natures than they should be, and censor that most of all due to that shame. (Or consideration of religion…you choose which is the correct statement for you.)

However, in my case, I’m just trying to keep down exposure to something my child can access day-to-day. He’s got ENOUGH hormones active. That one’s an active threat with a lot of consequences, that can be spurred by visualizations!

Cursing, eh, it happens so often, in so many realms, that you can’t really avoid that one, so I teach tact.

In my realm Blood/Gore are synonymous. Generally don’t have one without the other, somehow. ^_^ And most of the time, that’s in ‘make-believe land’, so it’s non-threatening to day to day life.

  5. Eric says:

How do these kids see language?

  6. NP says:

OMG! Did you see what he said?!

  7. nice girl says:

    who?

  8. papajon0s1 says:

They’re boobs… big whoop. Look all you want just keep your damn pervert teen-age hormonal raging hands to yourself, junior!

  9. greatslack says:

You forgot the worst one of all: TEH GAYZ!!

Seriously. More parents were riled up by the boy-on-boy kiss in Bully than all of the blood and killing in first-person shooters.

  10. Dave says:

Yeah a lot of parents are like that… especially Republicans ;)

My chart as a parent is a little different, more like this:

    Boobs – Meh
Gore, language, blood – Change the channel

I’m less concerned about my kids seeing some boobs, and more concerned about them growing up with a foul mouth or complacent about violence.

  11. THEKINGOFDERP says:

hmmmm… this chart is completely backwards… my parents didnt care when my 8 yr old brother found the playboy channel and he still watches it every day

  12. Ace5762 says:

johnny, the governments banned all violent television, what shall we do now?
    MURDER PEOPLE.
That’s my grandson. always full of good ideas.

  13. kelly says:

I don’t have a substantial problem with people seeing pornographic stuff. The problem I have is that more often than not, pornographic stuff objectifies only women, not men. So all in all I would say, yeah, sensor it all, because it isn’t equal. All it does is teach people that women are sex objects and men are not. If it were equal, I could care less if it were censored or not.

    • that1person says:

      totally agree.

    • interesting says:

ya after reading that i would most definetly have to agree.

    • Former Seller Of Smut says:

I thoroughly dislike when people say porn objectifies women. How? There are at least TWO people on the screen having consensual sex (unless it’s hentai.. that’s a whole other kettle of fish). Is it so hard to believe that MAYBE women have sex drives? That MAYBE women LIKE to give their partner BJ’s and have have sex in various positions in various holes. Maybe women like to be in a threesome. Threesomes are quite fun, thank you. There are whole lifestyles that you may not agree with that people enjoy. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

This is why women have issues with their sexuality. It’s a double fecking standard that is NOT FAIR. Men can get all the sex they want but we can’t have any? PISS OFF.

And as far as being treated like an object goes all the men are in those movies are grunting penises whose only use in the world is to eventually spunk on a woman’s wanting face.

      • slupine says:

*raises hand* Woman who agrees with this comment.

My sex drive is just as high, if not higher, as that of my boyfriend.

        It makes life more fun.

      • Mel says:

I think you misunderstood her comment. She didn’t say porn was bad, she said the unequal nature of a lot of porn is bad. Yes, women have sex drives, and that’s why it’s so frustrating that most of the media portrays us as having no sex-drive, and only there to satisfy a man’s sex-drive.

Even in non-pornographic media, for instance, why are there no music videos with half-naked men? (Except maybe a Lady Gaga video)

    • VYludin says:

You’re not reading the right material, I’d say;)

There’s plenty of objectified men in porn but it does depend on where you go to see it. Really, the way Playgirl is these days, it’s like a Teen Bop magazine with nudie shots. I’d find that more offensive, you can’t even say you’re reading it for the articles with that trash!

  14. Ashley Taylor says:

lol so true even if a REAL breast, which is rarely seen on tv is more natural than all of that combined hahahahaha my son is obsessed with boobs, stole my fredericks catalogue so many times i had to stop getting it lol

  15. Blaze says:

Well, the graph matches my observation 99%. I shook my head when a visitor from the USA calmly let her pre-schoolers sit thru most of “Terminator”, having no apparent problem with Arny wreaking havoc left and right. Then the two heroes make love. Not gratuitous cheap booby shots, but actually fitting in the flow of the story. She freakin’ hit the ceiling and turned it off immediately.

  16. poop says:

OMG I SEE LANGUAGE!! MY EYES!

    • poodle_face says:

To be fair, I’ve seen quite a lot of subtitles that are blanked out to spare little kiddies (and uptight parents) from the horror of reading naughty words :)

  17. Benjamin says:

I’m guessing a female nipple wouldn’t have fit on the chart.

I’m not one of those people who thinks there shouldn’t be ANY control over what shows up on TV, but it seems illogical that, no matter how non-sexual or natural the context, female nipples simply do not exist on most American television (other than cable, of course). What’s the deal? Is it that milk comes out of them? Milk also comes from goats, but you don’t hear anyone complaining about goats ruining their children’s innocence.

    • slupine says:

Good point. I have seen a lot of udders on TV. BAN COW PORN NOW.

On a serious note, it amazes me how uncomfortable people are with their own bodies…

  18. Lightbringer says:

Hmm, this chart does not apply for most european countries

    • slupine says:

Yeah, I think this is very America-geared. Here, we can show as much violence on TV as we want, but no sex.

And then we wonder why so much of our country has a stick up their butt.

Like, violence is ok but don’t have sex. Even better not to have sex because sexual frustration can lead to violence. Yay!

      it’s a bit ridiculous.

    • Robyn The Tiny says:

      SO definitely agreed.
I am in Germany and I´d say here it would exactly be the other way round, but with no graph going so high ;-)

  19. RPGod says:

I agree with this. Hell, my parents always try to make me close my eyes when they show breasts, or during that scene in silence of the lambs where Buffalo Bill does the whole mangina thing.

  20. Velpine says:

Sweety, that argument would have more validity, if you could actually spell the REAL words you’re attempting to use.

I say settle down on the cursing until you can actually use the language correctly first.

  21. Leffe says:

Find it funny that in news shows etc in the US you can have live coverage of a shootout where people gets shot and that’s no big deal but if they show some person nude it’s gotta be blurred. Realy a strange notion of whats harmful for kids to see.

  22. omgcheez says:

I find it funny that the same people who hate their kids seeing anything like boobs are okay with breast feeding.

    Oh, the irony.

  23. Jon says:

in terms of graphs… this is a poorly made graph.

  24. ui264 says:

    You can’t see language, silly

  25. Lugubert says:

    Kill some people, US, OK.
    Make new people, US, NOK.
    Spells hypocrisy.
