Wait now, Spongebob was one of the shows I went back to Nickelodeon for. Until the later seasons that is, it got kinda crappy after a few years…I think the execs at Nickelodeon saw that the show was good so they had to crap it down. Once a show is really good on that network it gets canned or crapifiyed.
Perfect example: Rugrats. The show was doing really good, and then they crapified it with the “All Grown Up” spin-off where they turned the adorable kids into angsty grade-schoolers.
(this comment was added after i finished the rest of it, but just to let you know, i kinda ranted here… ^///^” sorry)
mkay, first off, i kinda liked all grown up… (i totally see your point though, you can never reproduce the classics) also, after the spongebob movie, the man who created it in the first place retired, leaving the second in command in charge as the “brains” behind the newer episodes, which is why after one of the greatest accomplishments in spongebob history (the movie, that is) there was a drastic downfall. …and fairly odd parents isn’t getting any better, either. the baby ruined it. also, what the hell is with the sitcoms, anyways? things like all that, the amanda show, drake and josh, and ned’s declassified were really good and all, and even zoey 101 kinda got me in a good way. now it’s just crap… and does anybody even remember that really crappy mermaid show they came out with about a year ago… or what it’s even called? …thanks to all these crapfests, and the fact that they hardly show the good stuff down, nickelodeon central in carowinds is being replaced with planet snoopy (no offense, he’s awesome, it’s just i loved nickelodeon central so much, and hate to see it go). i can no longer comfort myself around characters like timmy cosmo and wanda, spongebob patrick and squidward, danny phantom, the rocket power gang, arnold (from hey arnold for those who don’t even remember him) the wild thornberries, or even the rugrats (there was a ride dedicated to the movie in which they met where you could soak people with gallons of water, and they replaced it with a forewards then backwards roller coaster already) i get that people arent’ watching them, and that parmount even sold carowinds to cedar fair (paramount was responsible for the nickelodeon and scooby doo based things, and even the coaster named “top gun” which is now afterburn), but parmount just needs to invest in an amusement park filled with these old memories that make some people so comforted…if paramount even exists anymore… same thing goes for disney, but since i’ve already written an essay rant on something that somewhat corresponds to the topic, i’m not even gonna start on something that has nothing to do with this in the first place

the Amanda show will always be good & Zoey 101 will always suck same with Drake & Josh & ned’s declassified, but icarly omg that show sucks it’s negative 99,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 good oh & zoey 101 is the reason nick crapped itself at first & if im wrong about the zoey 101 thing somebody please tell me. Oh and why the @!#$ did nick put the troop on nicktoons network the troop is just another ghetto sitcom it’s not even a cartoon aw well now and days anything that has to do with nickelodeon is pure crap. Maybe we should start a petition to bring back good old nickelodeon and get rid of these lame*** sitcoms and those sad attempts for cartoons.
I agree. The first few seasons of Spongebob actually made me laugh. Then it just got TERRIBLE.
Spongebob lost me because it’s just been getting so gosh-darn VIOLENT. And I don’t mean Tom & Jerry hammer-violence, which is everywhere in cartoons, but wince-inducing, teeth-grating violence in scenes where eyebrows are torn off with tweezers, toenails are ripped out, and other such things.
If I had a kid, I’d let them watch everything up to, but not including these eps. Original Spongebob was golden entertainment.
I actually love that about Spongebob. I get the feeling the creators really liked Ren & Stimpy. Spongebob has so much humor in it that I know I wouldn’t understand if I were still a kid. The fact that they can put in mature jokes along with keeping the children amused is what amazes me time and again.

Fun fact, they can still make new episodes. Before the show was canceled, they were already planning out another season. The first few episodes of the season were completely written, storyboarded, and the voices were even recorded. All they need to do is animate the episodes. They also have episodes that are already written, but the voices werent recorded. It doesnt matter, all the voice actors who worked on invader Zim are still working today. It wouldnt be hard to bring them back and voice over the episodes that were already written.
ps. there is even an episode where Gir winds up taking over the world, which even Zim couldn’t do.

I miss Invader Zim like crazy! I’ll admit, I like Sponge Bob, but I only like the earliest episodes. The newer ones are just stupid. They used to make sense. Now they’re just elephants on crack.
I miss the good ol’ days when I’d come home from school and watch Ah! Real Monsters, Rocko’s Modern Life, Doug, Hey Arnold!, and all those shows that were on during that same time. I don’t think there was a show on Nick back then that I didn’t like. Now, I hardly watch it unless Fairly Odd Parents (the old episodes) are on and typically there’s something better on.
CartoonNetwork isn’t much better these days. I remember when Toonami was Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon (before Pokemon got stupid). Same with Disney. I still like a few shows from each, but now all I rely on is Adult Swim and reruns on various channels of Family Guy, Futurama, and South Park. And staying up late to watch the good shows on Disney.

Invader Zim is definitely a good cartoon and it would be great to see it shown at least SOMEWHERE. But I think it would be much better off as an incomplete show like it is now than having it become like Spongebob, desperately clinging to its former popularity without success.
I haven’t been around long enough to have seen (or remembered) many of the older Nick shows; most of what I remember of Catdog and Hey Arnold are from the show’s last few running years. I didn’t even remember Invader Zim all that much; I just watched a few episodes online a few weeks ago. But they were still good shows and a lot better then some of the cartoons they have today (suck it, Chowder).
I think that making a tv series is like cutting a jewel; if you do it right, it’ll shine and sparkle but if you keep trying to cut it more and more then you’ll just end up with a bunch of dust.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure Zim got canceled because of the episode with the Baby Monster thing – Zim fired the Baby monster Leader out of a cannon, through a window and the baby smacked into the wall, falling to the floor.

Parents kicked up a fuss over that(it was a little wrong really), and Nickelodian canceled it. It looks like Nickelodian is playing it safe now.. with brainless Sitcoms and SpongeBob. I’m glad i don’t have cable =)
I think Zim was already a thorn in their flesh ever since the early episode “Dark Harvest” (where Zim stole the students’ organs). It actually lasted a long time, seeing that Nick didn’t really liked it from the beginning.

I do have to give Nick some credit for putting Avatar: The Last Airbender on their network. I miss all the old shows like Hey Arnold and the game shows, but I’ll honestly take Avatar over any of them. That show had story, character, and was even beautiful in places. Mike and Bryan are some of the coolest people on the planet =D
Yea, Avatar was a definite success. It’s one of the few tv series in existance to appeal to a wide audience and end gracefully as well.
I don’t know if the live action movie will be any good (why do they have to advertise movies a freaking YEAR before they even come out??!?!) but the teaser trailer looked interesting….
My understanding is that the creators are still heavily involved in the making of the live action movie. No doubt they’ve earned from the mistakes of others who have given their creative products away to a new medium. I’m pretty confident they won’t let anything happen to their show. Now if only everyone would quit b*tching about the casting. . .
Considering the show went on for 3 seasons and had 61 episodes, I only hate two episodes, both of them in the first season. I consider a 59/61 success rate to be amazing.
I don’t actually hate ANY of the episodes. Some of them just don’t hold up well in comparison, but against any other show on Nick lately, they’re downright amazing. I also like how it just kept getting better. I thought the Season One finale was cool. But that was like an average episode of Season Two. And the Grand Finale blew my freaking mind.
I’m guessing one of the episodes you don’t like is “The Great Divide” and the other….. okay, I have no idea.
First ITT to mention Cities of Gold. Mendoza, Esteban, Pau, Zia, the Golden Condor. Now all you kids get off my lawn, dammit.

My absolute favorite episode of Zim is actually one of the ones that never made it on the air…’Trial’, pretty much only existed in screenplay form, but it was frickin’ hilarious. Also would’ve loved to see the ‘Invader Dib’ finale of season 2, but meh.

The later episodes are starting to spiral into the same craphole as Spongebob is though, but The Fairly Oddparents had more good episodes before going bad than Spongebob did.

Yeah, Invader Zim was AWESOME! I regret doing something else instead during the Invader Zim eps. Now they show it at like…. 2am or something. They show Hey Arnold! at 5.30am – 6.30am on weekdays. Rugrats at 11pm – Midnight. Now, I want to watch the classic episodes of SpongeBob, CatDog blah blah blah. Nick keep showing those new eps of FairlyOddParents which I hate now cos i’ve watched every single ep of FOP. I’m happy that Nick brought back Rocko’s Modern Life.

I absolutely loved Invader Zim when it was on the air. There used to be a time where you could catch it late nights on Nickelodeon or even Cartoon Network, but those days have long since passed. I thought it was a religious movement to ban the show for it’s ‘terrorism’ content and nature? I’m not quite sure, but if I had to choose between the Doom song and the evening news, I would definitely find myself watching Zim and Gir. -In all actuality, Zim was nothing more than a modernized version of the Roadrunner/Coyote Looney Toons series. -It’s a shame those too have found themselves in the cartoon vault for newer generations to never experience.

They aren’t going to bring back Invader Zim due to the episode where they showed a bloody Gir. That banned Invader Zim. Ren & Stimpy was canceled because of a bloody fight and they haven’t brought that back either.
But otherwise, great graph. Spongebob is a classic actually. It’s been around nearly 11 years now.

I’ve seen things on spongebob way more violent than bloody gir (e.i. that one where Mr.Krabs made patrick jump into sea urchins) Also, bloody gir is there for not even 5 seconds and kids that are young can’t see them. Another thing, Zim, Gir, and Dib aren’t perverts that go look at girls’ underwear!

The newer episodes of Spongebob are very poorly written and not very funny. The series has gone down the crapper a little after the Spongebob Squarepants movie (or maybe a little before, depending on people’s opinion).

this is why i watch online videos. not enough of the classics. i havent seen the whole series of some of the classic nick or disney stuff but anything is better than the crap thats on. except for perhaps discovery etc theres no point in having the satillite.

I used to love Nickelodeon and Spongebob, but now all the Spongebob episodes are more like we’re-running-out-of-ideas-so-here’s-a-crappy-episode episode. And what’s with the new Nickelodeon logo?! It’s like they’re not even themselves anymore!

I agree, Spongebob was great up through and including the movie, but after that (seasons 5-current), there’s only a few episodes I’ll admit having watched, as most of the new episodes involve characters you know you’ll never see again, recycled storylines, and/or gratuitous, grotesque violence. At least the old close-ups like Patrick’s belly in “Life of Crime” were funny, now they’re usually totally unneeded.

Nickelodeon is f@#$n gay and needs to be taken off the air. Invader Zim: Awesome show. What idiot cancelled it??! I tried recording the show in a series link on Foxtel only to find that it loops around randomly and only has like 20 episodes in circulation, and only 1-2 episodes showed a week. It’s really retarded the way Nick killed this awesome cartoon.
Spongebob: The older shows are utterly horrible unless you’re a little kid. The more recent shows are bearable, but not great.
Ren & Stimpy: I loved it as a kid, but whenever I watch an episode of it now it’s freaky, creepy and makes me wish I could erase it from my mind.
The other old cartoons are mediocre, but the new cartoons are all awful, horrible things that should never be seen by anyone.
