Besides, chauvinism makes people feel better about themselves. If you lack self-esteem and can't stand on your own, be an individual, just belong to a group and define that group as better than other groups, and you are automatically better than most people. Not to mention bashing Americans is the cool thing to do. Though I suspect a those people who bash the US (at least in Europe) watch American movies, drink Coca-Cola, use American slang and whatnot.
