The above was really maybe just a tangent, but to me, some soldier who was willing to be shipped overseas and willing to kill strangers without knowing exactly Why are just as terrible as “a legion of young pot-smoking smelly idiots.” And don’t try to go off and tell me I don’t respect veterans and whatnot. Nothing could be further from the truth. All I’m saying is there’s really no need to go around bashing one sub culture when there are/were many who were acting irresponsibly for the “greater good.”

The point is that what culture generally portrays as ‘the sixties’ is the Woodstock/Haight-Ashbury ‘Hippie’ period of 67-69. This was really just a bunch of societal drop-outs who wanted to avoid responsibility or going to war, so they did drugs and didn’t bath instead. All their big moral ideals of peace and ‘we’re changing the world, man’ is just window dressing and justification for doing nothing.

Of course pot-smoking idiots are always looking for ways to justify their lifestyle so they always look back to the originators of the excuse and dredge it up again, saying ‘man in the sixties they like smoked pot all the time and they, like, changed the world man…ya dig?’

I’m a little fuzzy on the details.

But I’m pretty sure there was also this very violent war, in a jungle somewhere. Maybe somewhere in South East Easia or somehting.
