I think the reverse graph might be similar.

    Parent’s estimate of child’s IQ.

  2. Homer says:

I think you should quit yapping and just make one.

    • mamarosa says:

Maybe I should make a pie chart on:

Time I spend ‘yapping’ compared to time I spend actually making graphs.

Oh dear…. the ‘yapping’ slice just got bigger.

  3. Axis of Evil says:

Good thing they put the word “years” in parentheses.

  4. SiteInsights says:

Do you think your estimation of your parents IQ actually increases as you get older or do you think your judgment becomes skewed by your own falling IQ?

  5. Keiichi says:

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

    – Mark Twain

  6. moi says:

sometimes i wish i could go back to that age where i thought they were the equivalent of steven hawking…i think there was more love between my rents and i when i felt that i could ask them anything and trust that the answer was true.

  7. LeAnna says:

I’m 22 and my estimate for my mother is still in the 15 year IQ range. I don’t foresee this to change… ever.

  8. Justin says:

I think it’d be funnier if this was parents perception of child’s IQ

  9. HistoryMaker says:

what is a normal IQ? like 100?

    • mamarosa says:

      Sad, but quite possibly true.

    • Brian says:

      Yes, by definition.

    • Marekatt says:

Go to failblog and you’ll see who’s pulling the avarage down.

      • CartoonPiranha says:

Right, I’m just looking for a valid answer here. What is your problem with those of us at FailBlog? We’re quite nice and friendly, really. You don’t see us being nasty about other sites… well, not often. We’re too busy giving out squeezes and cookies, and doing epic punruns. And by the way, Marekatt, when insulting the intelligence of others, it helps a lot if you spell things right.

  10. stewie says:

thats not funny, it’s just true.

  11. Brian says:

What we see demonstrated on this graph is the “reality bites you in the ass” bounce.

  12. Chubbles says:

I guess your intelligence just drops when you’re young and in your older years.

  13. satchfan15 says:

Hey, I’m 15 and my perception of my parents’ IQ hasn’t dropped at all. If anything it’s risen some.

    • krisstaar says:

You mean the graph isn’t accurate?
Oh dear! We have to remove it at once!!
      Hey everyone!
      The graph is WRONG!!!!
      It’s NOT funny anymore!!

      Err..
      No, it’s still funny…

  14. Traitorfish says:

Somewhere, there is a kid who’s genius parents recieved brain damage in a serious accident when he was 12, but then began a gradual recovery over the next several decades, and, consequently, he is entirely justified in this belief. Good for him, I guess?

  15. Dr. Dot says:

I will freely admit (now) that I was one of these described in this lol (for lack of better terminology). Although my dad was never on par with Einstein, he had bucketloads of that other component to smarts known as ‘wisdom’. He didn’t roll much of an Intelligence number, but man what that man picked up over the years was mindboggling. Fortunately (and my brother made up for an entire childhood worth of bullshit on this one), right before my father died of cancer, I got a chance to talk with him. I told him that when I was 15, he was by far the stupidest creature on the planet (and it was a miracle he could tie his shoes), and I was well and truly proud at how much he’d been able to pick up over the years.

We shared our final laugh (and there were quite a few of those over the years) on these comments. It’s good to see someone finally came up with a (pseudo-)scientific representation of the phenomenon. Thank you.

  16. Muse says:

    it’s sad, but it’s true.
