American men, as far as I have been able to tell, are the only ones in the world that wear those ridiculous friggin’ “shorts” that look like a cross between harem pants and capri pants… and they keep getting longer and baggier every year… and they think THAT looks good (versus speedos)! It’s all about anxiety about the penis is all it is (I think the baggy shorts are supposed to hide the lack thereof).

I found this graph extremely humorous, but untrue. Nudity or some close semblance thereof simply does not gross me out. I can look at an 80-year-old of either sex in the buff without batting an eyelash. It just… doesn’t seem like something that should be gross. And younger people can look very good in speedos.

P.S. I’m not European; I’m from Southeast United States.

Ahem – too true. Why do the septics (septic tank = Yank) have such a problem with Speedos? Probably for the same reasons films and TV shows will display fully nude women, but once the plot would indicate male nudity they get coy.

Those loose, long, baggy shorts men wear as if they were sensible swimwear make them look as if they’ve borrowed their much-older-and-bigger brother’s stuff. Silly and unattractive.

Yeah, that’s why in most Dutch pools guys have to wear underwear too. And my boyfriend says he prefers it that way, because otherwise ‘certain things are moving around too much’ and speedos are just wrong…

I still have to laugh every time I see a guy wearing boxers with the waistband proudly displayed above – and of course matched to – his swimming shorts.

I can’t stand people who think that wearing a speedo makes someone “gay”. I play water polo and wear a speedo everyday for practice and games. when ever somebody laughs at speedos or says it’s gay, I’d just like to see them trying to play water polo in the hole set (the hardest and most brutal position) and see how gay it really is.
