I would have so much more respect for anyone, Christian or atheist, or whatever, if they give well though out, intelligent responses to things. It’s responses like this that just reaffirm my agnostic beliefs.

Boo hoo. We all take crap for the things we believe in/dont’ believe in. I don’t eat meat and I hear about it all day “WTF meat is awesome, you’re a loser”. I guess the next time someone twists my arm about why I don’t like meat, I’ll come on the internet and whine about my pitiful life full of other people that have differing opinions. CRIES.

How many people does it require to justify a horrible act?
Does more people doing something somehow make it morally superior?
Does this mean gang rape is less of a crime than regular rape?

More people believing something is not related to truth at all, more people reading something does not necessarily confer more belief, more people buying something does not necessarily mean they’re reading it.

I’d argue that gay people attacking religion do so because the religion already excludes them and works against them in the government. So it’s much like someone stabbing you, then you complaining that they aren’t very nice and had no reason to do it.

Furthermore, the OP should really have been more specific about which religion. Not all religions are anti-gay. Don’t let Christianity be a default, because it isn’t.

Finally I’m irritated at the “poor-me, I’m being persecuted” reaction by Christians. Sure once in a while Christianity was attacked, a long time ago, but these days it’s Christians doing all the persecuting. But every Christian I’ve debated with has, after much losing of ground and chin-trembling, retreated to a happy place of resolute defensiveness, pious timidity, and self-loathing.

That is, those who refused to talk with me at all after realizing I was good at rational though. Or those who absolutely fail at rational thought. I don’t count those as actual debates. Just a retreat behind the walls of the Fortress of Ignorance.

If you do not believe in the Easter bunny (or God) then you are of the opinion that it/He doesn’t exist. Therefore, you believe it.

Let me put it to you this way. There’s only two options: either there is an afterlife, or there isn’t. If there isn’t, which atheists would assume, then nothing matters. If there is, then nothing ELSE matters. Now, if you believe there is something after death, and you’re wrong, then you’re fine. If you believe there is NOTHING after death, and you’re wrong, then you’re in a heap of trouble. Is there anything illogical about taking a precaution against that risk?
