Looooove video games
First!
Don’t respond with some crappy wikipedia article, I made a comment
Comment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A comment is generally a verbal or written remark often related to an added piece of information, or an observation or statement. These are usually marked with an abbreviation, such as “obs.” or “N.B.”. The term “comment” may have different meanings depending on specific fields of usage:
babies come from females.
The only good sequel was Matrix.
Please tell me you’re kidding.
matrix?? hell yeah, luvd all of them.
Oh yeah, they were great! I especially loved the part where Agent Smith blew up the planet Namek and Goku, I mean Neo, had to try and stop him.
Not true. Terminator 2 was even better than T1.
I wouldn’t say that T2 was better or even as good, but it was about as good as it possibly could have been in light of how excellent T1 was.
No, he is a douchebag who is cloning me actually.
That would be a fantastic movie.
Hay! I was gonna say that!
Don’t forget Aliens and (in some people’s eyes) Toy Story 2.
And the “video games” bit is WAY too high. Zelda 2, anyone? SMB 2? Metroid 2? Then when they moved to 3D you’ve got Super Mario Sunshine, Majora’s Mask, Metroid Prime 2, all considered the black sheep. Sure, they have their fanbases, but people often dislike them, at least more than the first.
SMB 2 was originally Doki Doki Panic, and thew Japanese got SMB Lost Levels, but They thought it would be too hard for Americans.
If I am involved, the first movie will suck too, so the only place to go is up!
(insert explosion here)
(insert secondary explosion here)
So how come i can’t talk in the new movie either? Didn’t I get fixed up at the end of the first one?
If I am involved my awesomeness will rule you all? You doubt me? Enter the ring!
What a twist.
WIN!
Seth, don’t you have Television you need to be working on?
Dan Green, real name no gimmicks.
*we’re going round the outside*
*round the outside*
*round the outside*
The Dark Knight, anyone?
Damn, my favorite movie actor, Taleon Goffney, just got arrested with his twin brother. Still, you are all wusses. Anyone want to see a Taleon Goffney, look me up.
I concur – except for Batman’s raspy voice.
yeah, batman’s voice kinda destroys a lot… Though the film is completely awesome in all other ways.
If you’re gonna use the todd meme do it right.
BEST FRACKING SEQUIL EVER!!
I suggest that the the new Batman movies are exempt from this rule, because those were planned as a trilogy from the start. Sequels are usually only terrible when they are just made to cash in on the fanbase of the first movie
How about Empire? come on, people!
IMHO:
Empire was better than New Hope.
Toy Story 2 was better than Toy Story.
Shrek 2 was better than Shrek (although 3 was a bomb).
Grumpier Old Men was better than Grumpy Old Men.
Fantasia 2000 a little better than Fantasia.
Ice Age 2 was as good as Ice Age, and I’ve heard great things about Ice Age 3 (haven’t seen 3 yet).
at least this one named vi31 knows where its at
except i dunno about the disney ones, fantasia and toy story were pretty damn good.
ps also wish i could see ice age 3 too
Let’s not forget Star Trek II. Much better than Star Trek The Motion Picture.
And I’ve heard that Godfather Part 2 is better than the first, but being one of the ten people in the world who has not seen any of them, I’ll leave that decision to those more qualified.
heruyan: Thanks. Although, all the original movies I listed are among my favorites; the sequels happened to be better (a rare feat).
NOI: Isn’t Godfather II the only sequel movie to have won an Oscar? I’ve never sat through any Godfather movies so I’m one of those 10 people.
Sure wish Mel Brooks would actually come out with Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money.
I think there might be another one, but if not, you might be right on that
If you consider Lord of the Rings: Return of the King a sequel, as opposed to just the third part of a really long movie, it would also be a Best Picture-winning sequel.
And let’s not even get started on the indiana jones trilogy…
but i think there is a tiny amount of blue there (like maybe .5%) which is probably about right.
If you can’t appreciate the awesome-ness of Sean Connery, then you don’t even deserve to watch Indiana Jones…
Fallout 3 sucks.
Well…only a few video games have a good sequel. Most of the sequels for video games are bad too.
There are exeptions. But never judge a game before you played it.
If that was true, people would be fanwanking at the mention of any villian at all being better than Garland, rather than Kefka or Sephiroth as I often read. This amongst other examples.
Ganon is the best villan ever though.
You are wrong. president shinra is the best villian ever. Final fantasy VII FTFW!
Eugh. Seymour all the way!
Seriously, anybody who can kick your ass while having a voice so high-pitched it made Jacko’s voice seem deep and hair that he’d spent more time working on than Amy Winehouse has spent doing drugs has to be cool..
far cry 2. It just doesn’t cut it compared to FC1. They took out the stealth meter for one!
not really, but I see your point. Glad to see that you at least read…sequeled books…sigh…
Metal Gear Solid 2 was terrible.
HPatCoS (Book… not movie) wasn’t as great as Philosopher’s Stone.
Clerks 2 was great.
There, defied all 3. MHUAHAHAHAHAHA
OMG FORGOT ABOUT CLERKS 2!
It had the same quality as Clerks, but without all the chaotic hockey on the roof, gatorade, and having the amazing dance scene instead.
What about aliens that sequel was awesome.
Alien was however better.
Godfather part 2, Spiderman 2, The Dark Knight, Angels & Demons, Pink Panther 2 were all better than the first movie in the series.
Angels & Demons is the prequel of the DaVinci Code, not the sequel.
The books absolutely were, but the movie, to me, was treated as a sequel. I didn’t like either movie, but Angels and Demons was less crappy than The DaVinci Code.
Spiderman 2? are you kidding?
… well okay it was about even, but I’d say theres room for improvement on both their parts. (how many times can they repeat “with great power…”!?)
Graph maker obviously does not play video games.
Twilight 2 (aka. Daylight) is gonna be so mush better than the first one.
Uuughhh…I don’t think the Twilight series can get any worse. But somehow, some way, they’re going to prove me wrong.
lol i know, right??
Let’s be honest, that isn’t hard. Given the choice of Gordon Brown or Twilight 2, I’d pick Gordon Brown. Amy Winehouse or Twilight 2, I’d pick Amy. HERPES or Twilight 2, I’d pick Herpes…
see a pattern?
But Quantum of Solace was a Shitload of Disaster.
truth.
The Dark Knight dragged horribly for the last 30 min. The Two-Face sub-story was completely unnecessary. I think Batman Begins was much better.
On the subject of comic movies, wasn’t The Incredible Hulk better than Hulk?
Through my own experience, I’d say book should be 100%. I’ve yet to come across a book that, in my humble opinion, where the sequal was of any less quality than the original.
However, this is a clever and (for the most part, in my opinion) true graph. Could’ve done with Y-and X-axis labeling, but I’m not too picky when it comes to GraphJam graphs.
I would reference Twilight, but that would be flattering Stephenie Meyer with the delusion that her pathetic vampire fanfic can actually be considered a legitimate novel. And I haven’t actually read them…I just hear that the first one is the least shitty of the series.
Also, can I mention Redwall for a second? The guy has written like 15 sequels for that series, and they’re all exactly the same…I used to love them but then I realized that if you’ve read one, you’ve read them all.
Interesting that no one named the X-men films. the first one really wasn’t good, x2 was a bit so-so, the last stand was almost good, and origins, I wanna see origins again! It wasn’t the best fim ever but it was really exciting and Hugh really played the part well.
X-Men 3 could have been a TON better… it sucked compared to the second and the first.
Youtube ‘Yami Marik’s X-Men’ and click the cardgamesFTW vid. You’ll see all that is wrong with the movie
Just like the new Transformers movies…..
I think Harry Potters 3 and 6 should be the only exceptions to this graph. And possibly 5, that one was alright.
I think Return of the King was the best of the three Lord of the Rings movies
Movies based on book series definitely have more success when it comes to good sequels. Mostly because they actually have a solid, cohesive plot to follow and plenty of material, because the downfall for other non-book movie series is that the writers don’t know what to do for sequels, so they either a) re-hash old, worn-out ideas or b) stray too far from the original concept and end up alienating fans.
Evil Dead 2!!!
Dead by Dawn!
Actually the new Transformer’s movie is better than the original.
The Dark Knight was good…
So wrong..
I mention Deus ex and Deus ex: invisible war.
There.
Notable movie sequels that are equal to, or greater, than preceding movies:
Aliens/Alien
Ghostbusters 2/Ghostbusters
Terminator 2/Terminator (T3 just fails, pretty much)
Exception For good: The Lost World Jurassic Park and JP III. (I’m just a die hard JP fan)
Exception For bad: WIND WAKER. (Am I right?)
Assuming “WIND WAKER” is Zelda, it was bad but not the sequel in the Legend of Zelda series.
Speaking of Zelda, Ocarina of Time was WAY better than Majora’s Mask.
Wind Waker wasn’t bad, I mean relative to the other Zelda games it may seem rubbish since the others were just so phenomenal, but it had nice replay value and some pretty good new ideas.
But Twilight Princess…now there’s a bad sequel.
yes. But twilight princess honestly doesn’t make SENSE as even PART of the canon. So, I just let go of my expectations for a zelda game, and it was actually kinda good. Much like Far Cry 2, to like it you have to let go of expectations.
I guess so…I think I just need to lower my expectations altogether for Nintendo. TP was so straightforward and simple, that there was almost no “rewarding” factor or sense of achievement when I finished it. Just from the other Zelda games and any old games, I’m used to things being more challenging. I’m too nostalgic x_x
Zelda? More like CELDA
I must protest, Prisoner of Azkaban was so much better than the first two Harry Potter movies (and then it went back down hill). In found the last two forgettable, flameow. Not really bad, just … average. I suppose WB has deliberately picked a “safe” director.
I don’t think he’s really that safe, he’s sent all the die-hard HP fans into a frenzy over how much he changed the story. He’s definitely taken a ton of creative liberties, and I love that, mostly because I hated books 5 and on.
I think it was mostly the visual effects, cinematography, and acting that won me over in the last two movies. I can’t stand children trying to act, but I feel like they finally know what they’re doing and they’ve grown up enough to deliver compelling performances. Draco’s part was fantastic – up until know they’ve painted him as a purely evil 2D character, but the new emotional conflict was very well done. And the other teenagers have finally learned how to do subtle humor, thank god.
It could’ve used a better soundtrack though…but I’m going to stop rambling here. I tend to pick apart movies a lot, but I like to think that I make some sense. XD
hey hey hey. Those effects were, imo, the worst part of the otherwise good movies. But thats IMO, whatever you like…
not true with transformers
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
X-Men 2
The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3
The Dark Knight
Toy Story 2
Aliens
etc..
Woah, you had me except for The Lost World. How is it that the classic GTO swerves, hits objects, and drives through buildings without more than a busted headlight. I know they used to build them tough but that one was a tank!
Plus: oh crap how will we possibly end this. Oh I got it, lets randomly drop a T-Rex in the middle of the city due to a clerical error and let Godzilla homages do the rest.
Sorry, rant over.
It’s not the best movie ever, but it’s a pretty good sequel IMO. The ending wasn’t great, you’re definetely right about that.
It had more Jeff Goldbloom, you’re right about that.
I wish they would have used the latter half of the first book as the second movie instead of writing a new movie. Wait, why did he bring his daughter when he new what the dinosaurs could do? Pandering to a young demographic anyone?
Sadly, this Graph totally fits to Transformers 2 (in my opinion)… But WTF did this movie make it to 68% on rottentomatoes.com??? (I got some reasons to think that the sequel SUX, btw…) plz tell don’t tell me that this world is doomed ‘cos *singing* “It’s like a kind of torture..”
The only reason all my friends like TF2 is becuase of Megan Fox…
Uhm.. t2? t3 & the salvation are pure crap tho >.>
what about terminator 2?
or indiana jones and the temple of doom?
or ace ventura when nature calls?
all AWESOME sequels!!!!!!!
Last night’s Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever. Rest assured I was on the internet within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world.
ok seriously guys, you are overanalyzing it. of course there are going to be exceptions (ie the Lord of the Rings movies). i made this because the overall general trend is that movie sequels suck. alot. look at the Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, Caddyshack 2, Rocky, Night at the Museum, etc
as far as videogames go, yeah there are exceptions, but there is a trend. the halo series, battlefront, call of duty, splinter cell.
and then books, with examples like some of the Harry Potter series, LOTR, etc, etc.
the odds for books is lower because in some extended series, like Harry Potter (again), Ender, etc.
dont make a big deal out of it.
Not really, Silent Hill the movie(as I heard from several boyfriends) was better than the video game. And that movie is my all-time favourite.
Meh, game and books sequels suck as much as movie sequels.
