  1. FIRST says:

    FIRST FIRST FIRST!

  2. duffy says:

Well, shurr – only there’s too much blue on the East: that should be about the same area as Hawaii.

  3. We says:

    CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT!

  4. 12wqz says:

Most of Alaska should be red, shouldn’t it?

  5. ewwee says:

    Finally, a good one.

  6. Dane says:

Really? That’s what you’re going with, “queers?”

  7. RJ Lowe says:

Though, Hawaii should be “Hula girls and fat guys that kind of look Mexican”

  8. vuorst says:

I am from europe and all I can say is: it’s true. Everyone here thinks exactly what the graph shows

  9. Dennis says:

I’m from the Netherlands and I see the USA the same as Midwesterners!

Except for the blue parts, I’d say those would be green too.

  10. Personage says:

As a midwesterner, I’ll sign off on this map, but point out that there ARE no “normal” people anywhere – only patchy distributions of the blue and the red people.

    :P

    • LMAO says:

agreed as a midwesterner also, except there are more mountains than the section for them and I know a lot of that section is desert since I have driven across it

      • Personage says:

For reals! We need to come up with a map of how people who make maps of how they think we think think when they think about us.

        I think.

      • KRK says:

Look up “basin and range topography.” It means mountain range, gap, mountain range, gap, mountain range, gap, in the most basic terms. Yes, there’s oodles and oodles of desert, but technically the chart is er…sorta accurate, because there are mountain ranges all across the area in maroon, interspersed with gaps (desert parts).

Besides, remember this graph is supposed to be a joke. If you tried to represent which is mountain and which was desert, you would have stripes which would confuse Midwesterners, further blind old Floridians, make Democrats and Republicans alike see purple, and the Hawaiians and Alaskans agree to secede from the nation. Oh, and give some people seizures.

    • whitey138 says:

Im from NoDak and now live in Minnesota and completely agree. most people around here never get out of the state and pretty much thing these exact same things. whats weird is a LOT of people are surprised that ND has the internet, or even that they have electricity.

    • Paul says:

Midwesterner here as well, and I mostly agree.

The map is okay, but we certainly don’t see people in Kansas or Indiana as “normal”. Those states should be red.

      • Joe says:

Indiana’s actually pretty evenly split between blue and red right now. (Basically majority of south/central = red, majority of north/cities = blue)

    • agrwife says:

I’m from Iowa, and my first thought was, yup that’s about right.

      • shirlema says:

I too am from Iowa and now live in Wisconsin (hopefully not for long). I really don’t agree with the green going into Ohio and Pennsylvania. Those aren’t normal people to real Midwesterners.

        • Meghan says:

I’m from MN and Wisconsin should have its own color on the map. They are definitely not normal!

          • who, not me says:

No MN is normal. The standards for what is “normal” were developed from questionaires given to surgery patients in MN. Normalcy is MN, the state which has given us both Barbara Bachman and Al Franken (2 of America’s great comedic wits.)

      • katie says:

i’m from iowa too.. and i’m actually a little offended by this. i mean, i get really tired of people from other states thinking that midwesterners are uneducated and close-minded.

        • hee hee says:

absolutely…this map doesn’t quite cover it. I am from the midwest and I insist there should be a color for ‘corn/wheat fields’. and that should take care of most of the stuff west of chicago but east of the mountains. :)

        • Val says:

Seriously, are there really that many people that live in Iowa that there could be multiple people on this page from there?

          Respectfully,
          Ignorant from Indiana

  11. S says:

Hey! It’s not just mountains, there’s deserts there too! ….right?

    • drklassen says:

And Arizona should be “Old People”

      • Jefoid says:

        Am not.

      • person says:

texas should be divided into 3. the top half being normal people the middle being rich old dudes and the bottom half being mexican immigrants

      • KRK says:

Watch out! They’re spreading to southwestern New Mexico as well! They specifically love Las Cruces, except they’re mad other old people are moving in too and destroying their mountain views by creating the need for annexation and new subdivisions. Oh and they’re also constantly calling the newspaper to complain that there isn’t a Luby’s.

  12. CAPM says:

I don’t know enough about this to comment yet, but since I am an idiot, I will comment anyway.

  13. Me says:

    Ahhh, you’re an idiot.

    • Name (required) says:

Homosexual fantasies and now fart sniffing. Joe, you really are an idiot. No, really you are. I’m not kidding.

  14. RED says:

As a midwesterner, there’s only 1 problem with this graph. Anything west of Minnesota, right in the middle there (the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas) is Farms. Like Children of the Corn-type farms. Scary.

  15. John says:

Wow.. I’ve been reading the graphjam blog for a long time now, and this is the first time I decided to check out the comments. Congratulations, you even make YouTube and 4chan comments look like Shakespearean sonnets.

    • D says:

      Great post! Classic…

    • StCyr says:

It’s actually not always this bad. The troll replying to himself and saturating the board with dumb comments is hopefully just a temporary thing.

    • dardub says:

If you think these people are special, you should check out the cheezburger and hotdog pages. I don’t know how those people figure out how to turn their computers on.

  16. Blarg says:

How do you get the US graph to show up in the graphbuilder? I can’t find it anywhere! ><

  17. StCyr says:

    You just realized this?

  18. Speakingfromohio says:

Oh my God, the worst part is that it’s so true!

  19. abnormal says:

WOOT!!! SUM1THINKS IM NORMAL !!!!!!… wait a sec… wut is midwestern??

  20. James the Conquerer says:

How do you know this? No, seriously, how can you tell?

  21. Corion says:

I live in Texas but this is pretty much how I view the US.

Except that in the center of Texas where Austin is there should be a blue dot.

  22. abnormal says:

the thing is… i dont view myself as normal either

  23. Yourmom says:

WV is not green. It is most certainly red.

  24. froggy says:

how many (younch) french see it:

    - deep blue: AMERICA, the one we dream of
    - brown zone: north -> mountains, south -> desert
    - green zone: boring, must be filled with losers
    - red zone: do not enter, or people from the woods will try to eat you. And even if you you escape them, the police will arrest you for being french anyway.
    - pink zone: where old rich people go to die
    - ice blue: people actually live there?

  25. froggy says:

    younch -> young

    =)

  26. Alex says:

I’m not gonna lie, that’s how I see it.

  27. alex says:

Yup, this is how we see it, only west of the Mississippi is prairie people.

  28. kira says:

    this is grossly inaccurate

  29. Chris says:

    This is so true.

  30. PJ says:

LOVE IT! (And I am a midwesterner.) My only observation would be that parts of the northwest should be sprinkled with a bit of red, for all those militia types that seem to be holed up in the country out there, refusing to pay their taxes and raising little UniBombers.

  31. hrise1841 says:

    Wow, they nailed it.

    (…Michigan)

  32. Jam says:

The only correction I would make is to replace the blue in New England with a combination of the “left-wing loonies” and “old people” labels. Possibly purple.

  33. Mike says:

There’s this whole other part of Washington that we like to call “Eastern Washington.” It’s definitely right wing not left.

  34. Nic V. says:

As a mid-westerner myself, i have to say that this graph is %100 accurate. Definite lols to be had here…

  35. Mia says:

Cook County, IL and the surrounding areas NEED to be blue!!!

  36. JayPea says:

Where the heck do you get off saying the Wisconsinites are normal??? We Minnesotans have lived next to them for years, and they are just WEIRD! Jeff Dahmer and Ed Gein weird. And the cults – they are everywhere. Us Midwesterners ARE normal (except for the above). You can tell this because everyone in the movies talks just like us, even the fake accents, which all have a Midwest twang underneath. The only time movie people didn’t talk like real Midwesterners was in the movie “Fargo.” That was a hoot!

  37. abnormal says:

yeah!!!!!!!!! WE’RE LEFT WING NUTJOBS IN IL!!!!!!

  38. ReM says:

we see florida and hawaii as beaches, california as a state of dumbness, and wisconson as wisconson (seperate).

  39. Sarah says:

I can’t tell if that’s a poorly worded dig at Iowa or just a homophobic slur in general. Could you clarify?

  40. Michigan says:

    Very true.

  41. Elfking says:

I have a sense of Deja Vu. Be this a repost?

  42. Basara says:

Actually, if this map were accurate, the red section of the map would be titled “Sore Losers”, the green would extend down to the KY/TN line (about a quarter of the people in OH, IN, IL & Michigan have at least 1 Kentuckian as a great grandfather or closer relation, due to the migrations to work in the northern factories), and Michigan, Wisconsin & Minnesota would be Blue instead of green.

  43. Bix Nood says:

Odd they didn’t include Kansas in the red. I mean Fred Phelps lives there, and they want to teach ID in class rooms.

But I’d imagine the counter graph to this would be “How the rest of the US sees the Midwest” With the Midwest being labeled rust belt, farmers, cornfields, and boring.

  44. Emily says:

People from Wisconsin are definately not normal

  45. Laura says:

Hate to tell you this, but that’s how a lot of people see the US. Not at all original or humorous. Get a life.

  46. brapbrapbraaap says:

This makes it seem as if all the “normal” states are supposed to be the midwest. Some of them practically touch the Atlantic. Graph fail?

  47. Amelia says:

Don’t like that Florida is excluded. Shows just how much of an idiot the guy that made this map is. I live in Florida, and I am not old.

    • S says:

No, you’re in Florida, and the graph says that old people are in Florida, therefore you are old.

I saw it on the Internet, it MUST be true!

    • anonymiss says:

what part of “lol” don’t you get?

If you are too old to laugh, you are too old!

I think the label suits just fine.

  48. anonymiss says:

This is how the rest of the ~world~ sees the U.S.

Except change “normal people” with “amish”.

  49. Aaron says:

This is exactly how the rest of the world sees America except substitute Normal people for Creationists.

Also a smally Red dot over New York indicating, “Where Spiderman lives”.

    • M4ce says:

WIN. Exactly right. Haha creationists, it’s so true. Maybe substitute the left wing loonies with ‘pretentious hipsters’.

  50. mindless says:

kentucky is a democratic state, hardly right wing

  51. Dragonstar says:

    that’s offensive….

  52. Bryonia says:

Could be worse. Could be ‘How Texans See The US’ in which case Texas would be huge and and the rest of the map would be labeled ‘The Back 48′ and Hawaii would be labeled as as a water lily floating in the cow pond

    • KRK says:

So true! I speak from experience as a Texan myself. And now, ya’ll, gotta go, cuz I’m fixin’ to go see what’s in the fridge.

  53. femanon says:

Being from North Dakota, I just want to express how much Montanans and Minnesotans suck at driving.

    YOU SUCK AT DRIVING.

  54. Curmudgeon says:

    haha… Florida… haha.

  55. Negathle says:

Heh, as a Midwesterner, I don’t see how Pennsylvania/West Virginia fits in there and Oklahoma doesn’t. Census midwest =/= the midwest

  56. duder says:

dude totally, im from wisconsin that is so right

    • papajon says:

Hey whoa! I’m a Wisconsin lifer and unless you’ve been imprisoned in the cheese mines of northern WI you should know we’ve been living in the ridiculous tax-hell People’s Republic of WI for quite some time. There is sooooo nothing “normal” about a healthy chunk of folks living in this state! We’ given the world Ed Gien and Jeffrey Dahmer (sorta) for crying out loud!

Ok, fine, does anyone wonder why we drink so much beer here? Normal? Puuuhhhhlease! This graph needs some serious serious work! Sooooo wrong about the midwest! And I need a Leinenkugel!

  57. Siege says:

hey now, i’m from the midwest and i don’t think that. however, i won’t disagree with you that a vast majority of the people here do. which is why this is funny ^_^

  58. Siege says:

oh yeah and Oklahoma is totally the midwest, its like the midwest capital, i’m a little sick of people grouping us with the south, we weren’t even around for the civil war. we didn’t become a state until 1907, so idk how we could get grouped in there. i mean c’mon look at the map Oklahoma is smack dab in the middle of the US, its not really south. at least i don’t think so, but hey i might be biased, i did grow up here after all. I think someone should make a graph of how the Northeast sees the rest of the country, because they just think everyone else south of them are poor stupid idiots. Unless they’re from California, and then they’re just hippies. ugh i hate stereotypes :(

    • Kelly says:

lol… “unless they´re from california, and then they are just hippies.” still not hippie enough to let gay people marry apparently. looks like there are hicks among us!

    • A says:

Oklahoma isnt the midwest pretty much to us midwestreners anything below Missuori is considered the south.

  59. Kelly says:

    stereotypes are fun!

i suppose that green area is normal… i guess. i never much had an opinion about them. just seems like a very boring area to live in. actally for me any state that doesn´t have a coastline seems rather boring.

  60. Briguy says:

Because I live in Chicago, I agree with this 100%

  61. allyson says:

nah, that isn’t right. Indiana needs to be in the right wing loonies part. at least everything below indianapolis

  62. cornhusker says:

from eastern nebraska and i think that, sadly enough, most folks here would remake this graph as follows:
the green section only inculding ND, SD, MN, WI, KS, and MO &labelled “people who probably wish they were us”,
iowa would be “god-awful drivers &creepy inbred idiots”,
the red area would include WV and just be “southerners”,
florida would be “bikini-clad women, david caruso, and old folks”,
    AZ &NM = “desert”,
MT &WY = “even more boring than us”,
CA would be “bikini-clad women, arnold schwarzeneggar, and hippies”

    • Nessie the Flutist says:

Hahaha! I’m from Eastern NE too! I totally agree with that XD I totally would remake it to that, and so would pretty much everyone I know from around here… Your views are an epic win :D

      • cornhusker says:

haha why thank ya! i was gonna put utah in as “crazy mormons” but wasnt sure how well that wouldve been received. lol

        • Nessie the Flutist says:

Lolz yeah it should… Texas could be ‘ranches and cowboys’ XD stereotyping is fun!

  63. HvsL says:

Hey, NC is blue now!! Can we be left wing loonies, instead?

  64. Mechas8an says:

Im English. Living in Kentucky. I didnt know there was Mountains over there I thought the crazy people just went out further and the fascists ended later.

  65. Mike says:

I’m from Chicago, and that whole map is pretty much correct.

  66. midwesterner says:

No, we think yoopers are weird too. Minnesota and the UP get their own color.

    • Jan says:

As a 30yr. resident of Minnesota who once lived in Chicago I must agree with you totally!!! I now live in South Carolina and that red part of the map is accurate as hell.

  67. Lolcatmakefunny says:

If i’m a right wing loonie. YOUR A OLD PERSON!

  68. Amanda says:

Having Pennsylvania, Ohio, and maybe Indiana included in “normal people” is wrong. The Middle East is not the same as the Midwest. Also, we would exclude the bottom half of Missouri (ahem– Misery) and would be fine with conceding the Dakotas to the red category. :)

  69. Briguy says:

    It’s a joke. Chill out.

  70. Uzigawa says:

for your info, i live in florida, and im only 16, BOOYA! course it is the panhandle, you it doesnt make sense, old people+disney world, worst combo ever

  71. HeMan says:

Umm…. not quite. Most Midwesterners would also put a special blob in for Chicago — and also put Indiana and the UP of Michigan in “right wing loonies.” Ask anyone in the Midwest and you always get “Well, Chicago’s different.” Also, shouldn’t Arizona also be old people territory?

  72. skittlesxmonster says:

‘left wing loonies’ on the right side of the country? epic fail

  73. Dude from PA living in IN says:

As someone originally from Pennsylvania, now living in Indiana, I feel qualified to say that Pennsylvania is definitely not the Midwest. Pennsylvanians don’t think it is, and Midwesterners don’t think it is.

Ohio totally is though, freakin’ hicks.

  74. glitchunter says:

According to this, I’m a mountain!

  75. snow says:

*loads semi auto sks rifle and sets bayonet* so you think theres only mountains here huh?

  76. scott says:

Being from Pennsylvania, its nice to see that I am viewed as normal

  77. i says:

    bitch must be trolling

  78. person says:

u kno about 1% of southerners are hillbillys and 75% of us are NORMAL PEOPLE.

  79. midwesterner says:

damn straight thats how it is!

  80. lol says:

person is true, even tho I have never been in the south before…

  81. Laura says:

I’m a left wing loony, apparently.

  82. joe says:

I am saying that because I am queer and i was hoping

    • A Man Who Loves Chocolate says:

If you’re queer, then I’m a Chinese Jet Pilot.

I hope you are, because that would be kind of cool.

  83. ArmyGuy543 says:

We don’t think of you that way, morons. -_- But the Hawaii, thats partially true.

  84. ryko says:

wait, so since when are Pennsylvania and West Virginia part of the Midwest?

  85. flameow says:

If this were from a Californian perspective…east coast would be “awesome”, and everyone else would be right-wing loonies…including ourselves. So disappointed in my state, as are others :-\

  86. paigey-poo says:

YAY!!! but im not normal. . .

  87. anna says:

I live in new york and i aint loony

  88. Dave says:

HOW CALIFORNIANS SEE THE MIDWEST: From 37,000 feet at 650 MPH.

Herp-de-derp hyuk! How do ya loke those crabapples, Jed?

  89. KAWCK says:

    YAY IM CONSIDERED NORMAL :D

  90. sdfghj says:

im from the midwest and this is so true … haha

  91. Anony says:

I’m from MN, and I gotta agree with most of you. This is true. I was originally ready to be offended by this, but it’s really true.

  92. Sarhii says:

I’m from Michigan…and yes this is true

  93. Luna says:

I’m from Alaska and going to college in the mdiwest–the sad thing? This is (as far as Alaska) pretty much the sad truth. They may not think “Eskimo”, but they sure as hell don’t think we’re normal people like everyone else–they treat AK as some incredibly different backwards foreign place, instead of your completely NORMAL state.

And yes, I know this rambles, but I really don’t care.

  94. Gascmark says:

This seems to be a completely accurate model of the U.S., and anyone who disagrees is WRONG AND EVIL AND LIKE A JONAS BROTHERS FAN OR SOMETHING.

GO FINISH UP YOUR TWILIGHT/HANNAH MONTANA FANFICTION, YOU FIENDISH PERSON!

Wooh! I feel pretty good now!

  95. Daniel says:

lol yeah that about how i see it and i live in Illinois and it’s true jk

  96. Dave says:

Seems pretty accurate, though West Virginia shouldn’t be green. They are NOT normal…

  97. this is my username says:

    yay, we’re normal!

  98. beatles#1 says:

    screw twilight

  99. kittyent68 says:

I’m guessing the people from Oregon, Washington, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland ,and Delaware will complain that they are not left wing loonies(it’s just New York and California who are)

  100. KitchenBomber says:

Just about nailed it but, If the floridy bit was just X’d out and the brownish part was divided into the parts where they have sweet fireworks and the parts where they all wish they were banging their cousins and living in the red part and the Pennsylvania part was included in the blue part and Indiana part was kind of gerrymandered into the red part and the hawaii part was riding a surf board and the alaska part was a hypocritical fame whore whose son was retarded, you’d be spot on.
