Sometimes I bring my dog to the front door, have him watch me exit, close the door, then ring the doorbell, and when I come back in he’s barking, wagging his tail, and jumping up.

I can walk to the mailbox and back (which takes about 30 seconds) and my dogs’ excitement level when I return is “knocks you over in excitement”. Whether it be 30 seconds or 8 hours, I get the same level of excitement from my dogs.

My dog will “smile” its not an actual smile but it def. looks like one, every Husky i have ever owned has smiled.

and this graph is sort of true for my dog, if we go out and get the mail, she just looks at us when we come in a “damn that was fast” sort of way, but if i leave for work and come back a few hours later she’s practically knocking me off my feet

My dog would have the line straight across the ‘knocks over in excitement’ bar, no matter how long you’ve been gone. She’s very excited when her ducks are all in a row and she doesn’t have to run around looking for anyone. (yes, I own a shepherd… she’s always herding us into the same room so she can sleep without worrying XD)

One of my dogs you don’t even have to leave to room to get a reaction out of her. She’ll be sitting across the room from you one moment and next BAM! A Chihuahua has planted herself in the center of your sternum.

Granted this is the same down you can scare half to death by quietly walking into the same room as her.

Any time I come home from work, my cat will literally trip me and walk between my legs rubbing up against me until I pick her up and pet her. Once I do, she’s fine to just follow me around. She always has to be in the same room as me as well. She can be dead asleep, but as soon as I get up and walk to another room, she follows me. She’ll wait till I stop somewhere for a few moments, and if she’s really tired, she’ll lay down and sleep there while I do whatever I’m doing, but as soon as I leave the room, she’s right beside me.

That depends on the cat…. The stereotype of a cat says that, but few cats I know are actually like that. The ones that are aren’t even average cats–they’re feral. I volunteer at an animal shelter, and most of the cats will at least come up to me and rub up against my legs when I enter the room.

I completely agree. My dog goes nuts if I just walk out to take out the garbage. He’s off-the-wall when I come home from work. But if I come back after a week away, he’s kind of just walks up to me. He’s playing it cool.
