Most of the new songs that attempt to incorporate parts of older hits into their music usually seem to fail in my mind. Some I can handle, like the techno-ized version of “Valerie” that I sometimes heard at halftime of Northwestern field hockey matches, or “Don’t Stop The Music” (has the mamase mamasa mamakusa lick from Michael Jackson).

My favorite “covering” of music is when a concert band, jazz band, big band, or pep band plays the song. I could care less about the words of most songs.

lol at the “any music after 19XX sucks” mentality. Your parents hated your music. Their parents hated theirs. Remember, ELVIS WAS CONSIDERED THE DEVIL, just like Kiss, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, etc….
So what happens is you hate this generation’s music, they hate the next generation, and so on. It’s quite stupid really. We never learn that the next generation will NOT make music we like, EVER. INb4 someone says “Im 12 and I hate new music”. Yeah, whatever.

I usually don’t comment, but I just had to on this. I am seriously tired of rap remakes of quality songs! It started with Numa Numa, then went on to ruin other great ones like You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record Baby), I’m Blue from Eiffel 65, AND IT STILL CONTINUES! Rap artists need to learn that they’re destroying great oldies and turning them into sexual crap. >:(

Well, is it ok to remake a good song to appeal to a different audience? Like Korn’s Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd cover) or It Dies Today’s Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode Cover) as long as they changed the song enough to not be “the original played by a different band” but “a band playing their version of the original”? That’s fine. The crap most groups do remaking songs is doing is as dumb and useless as Flo Rida’s name.

Another part of this graph is for all the T-Pain types out there who overdistort their voice, “sing” someone elses lyrics to a generic beat someone else plays. Why on earth are these people famous?

And everyone will think their generation had the best music. Don’t argue about it.

“Mainstream” isn’t a genre. It’s a category for every genre, based on level of popularity. Radiohead is alternative rock, and by the end of the nineties was very much mainstream.

No offence to all those people who like all that hip hop and rap or whatever you wish to call it, but today’s music is unoriginal garbage. None of thas the potential to be as timeless and unforgettable as say, Queen, The Beatles, AC/DC or Journey. Sure, it may be what everybody is listening to these days, but honestly, I hardly doubt that it will stand the test of time. At my school, almost everybody is able to recite all the lyrics to “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” and other songs that we are a bit young to be listening to. Will the future generations be able to sing today’s music like that? I highly doubt songs like “Swing” and “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” will last like “I Want To Rock & Roll All Night” has.

Feel free to argue this.
