This graph is both true and proper. Seriously, if it were up to me I wouldn’t let a 16 year old near anything more dangerous than a Nerf football. Just the idea that the 1 1/2 ton hunk of metal in the other lane speeding at me is being guided by some hormone-addled kid is absolutely horrifying.

I had a really good drivers ed teacher. We might have watched one video the whole year. Mostly I remember him emphasizing the use of turn signals and stop sign rights-of-way. I wish everybody had learned from him.

However, I had something similar to this graph in my “health” class about drugs, smoking, alcohol, and sex. We didn’t have to watch “Reefer Madness”, but plenty of other movies that were just as corny.

That’s a pretty clever and efficient teacher. Plus, the students learn how to get to all the important places. The only downside is if you pay by the hour and you waste some of that hour waiting for him instead of driving.

My driver’s ed class was FUN. The teacher was hilarious. And he didn’t show any gorey videos, just those old disney cartoons featuring Goofy demonstrating examples of bad driving.

Heh. My teacher used to have us drive him around to get his errands done. The dry cleaners, post office, once to WalMart to pick up his soap, shaving cream, etc. But I think it gave us a lot of experience actually.

I remember Driver’s Ed in high school. We got to watch movies with titles like “Red Asphalt”. Great stuff. The movies were made quite a number of years before, and the teacher lost control of the male population of the class when the narrator of the film explained how the cops were “douching” the blood from the street and into the gutter towards the storm drain.
