  1. California Dave says:

    Spelling fail.

  2. Libby says:

    Venn Diagram fail.

  3. Vinny says:

I always regretted not studying more Enginnering in college . . .

  4. whitey138 says:

pretty funny aside from the spelling

  5. hydra4 says:

    SPELING NAUGHT REQIRED?

  6. Pierre says:

why is myth busters not included in physics?

  7. Captian Obvoius says:

In my opinion, Numb3rs = House + CSI. Perfect description, no?

  8. lol says:

This graph can be compared to a pile of turd so big it blots out the sun.
If I could give it a minus twenty, I’d do it.

  9. Rice says:

MacGyver. Why can’t people spell these days?

  10. Randy says:

This would be funnier if “engineering” and “MacGyver” were spelled correctly.

    • Jcrow says:

Are you saying that “diciplines” is actually funnier being spelled wrong, or did you just not notice that one?

Anyway, as an Arts student, I think it’s hilarious that this graph has so many spelling errors… far funnier than the intended point of the graph.

      • Blurgle says:

It’s both funny and pathetic. Engineers get it into their minds that they don’t need to know anything but engineering. It’s only when they get into the real world that they realize that without social and communication skills, they’ll never advance past that entry-level position. Nobody cares how brilliant you are if you scare off the clients with hostility and arrogance, or if you can’t write a coherent memo to explain what you’re doing.

        • blah says:

As a structural engineer, I have to say, I was totally turned off by the enginner and dicipline spelling errors – mainly the engineering one. Unfortunately I must not be a typical engineer, since I did not notice the Mcgyver error and, on a side note, have never even seen the show. I totally agree that most engineers lack strong writing, spelling, and social skills, which make us all look bad!

  11. jl5691426 says:

Excellent diagram – only because its many errors spawned the best comments I’ve seen on this or any of the related sites. I lol’d more than ever before.

  12. jl5691426 says:

…and since we’re picking it apart let me mention that it should be “among” rather than “between” since it mentions more than two disciplines.

  13. Gaga says:

Spelling fail always turns me off.

But “The Big Bang Theory” turns me on again. I love my nerd boys. :D

  14. sylviasama says:

Mythbusters is basically the only thing we talk about in physics class, so I don’t know what kind of physics people you’re talking about there.

    • Jack says:

I agree. :) I just finished physics last semester. Of course, Mythbusters almost always deals with kinetics, not modern physics (like photoelectricity and mass defect – which belongs in Chemistry anyway.)

  15. cherylface says:

Erm–Doesn’t calling them Math-based “Diciplines” kind of negate the whole thing anyway? In that sense, wouldn’t they all be Mathematics?

I mean, on top of all the other things that are horribly wrong with this graph.

    • pmcatnip says:

Short answer, no. ;-) Physics borrows from math, engineering borrows from physics; engineers barely remember how to do math.

      • cherylface says:

lol. But the point is that they’re “Math-based” and that means that the person making the graph is admitting that they all have something to do with Mathematics anyway.

  16. pmcatnip says:

Well I’m an engineer and I make spelling a top priority! As do many of my peers.

That said, this graph obviously wasn’t created by an engineer because Mythbusters should go in the middle, the Big Bang Theory should go between physics and math (engineers don’t care about the Big Bang), and Bill Nye the Science Guy should go on there somewhere.

I think this is some art major’s perception of the sciences, not somebody from within.

    • Amanda says:

      AHAHAHA, REALLY.

    • nicole says:

As an engineer who loves TBBT and has engineering coworker friends who love it, I strongly disagree. My enjoyment of seeing it in the middle made me totally miss the glaring faults of the diagram.

  17. ChaR says:

The middle should of been Walker Texas Ranger because Chuck Norris defies all of those things.

  18. Webby says:

    ROFL enginnering

  19. Baffled says:

What mathematics does Myth Busters ever use outside of the mathematics used in physics?

    • cherylface says:

You never saw that myth that 2+2 actually equals five? Kidding aside, the graph is all wrong.

    • in_a_box says:

There’s a lot of chemistry based mathematics involved in the show. Kind of important to know how much potentially volatile substance to use.

  20. Dan says:

    Maths-based .. not Math-Based .. idiots.

    • blah says:

wohohoho, crazy! I never realized that it’s maths, not math before! Maths-based does not roll off the tongue easily. (No sarcasm, I’m serious!)
      -thx

    • cherylface says:

I’ve never heard it referred to as Maths within the US, and I never heard of it referred to as such before I was twenty. I’m pretty sure Math-based stands as proper usage for the United States.

    • :) says:

Oh, you silly prescriptionist. Welcome to the world, also known as what actually happens! Also, what happens everywhere west of you. :P Britain isn’t everything.

    • fries789 says:

the term ‘math’ is used in the usa, and the term ‘maths’ is used in england, new zealand, australia and many other countries. both can be considered correct.

  21. Jake says:

I don’t think anyone watches The Big Bang Theory. MythBusters, on the other hand, is well beloved by all.

  22. harr says:

You idiots rant on about semantics and masturbation… AWESOME GRAPH!!!!

  23. i_says says:

Ugh, I watched an episode of big bang theory and it was painfully dumb. it was more or less “lets pack all the nerdy steriotypes into as few characters as we can”.
thats coming from someone who graduated in comp-sci and used to be in engineering… so i love nerdy stuff.

how did this show get so popular? none of the characters have any personality, just gimmicks.

  24. Flamebait says:

I’m so glad I’m majoring in mechannicle enginnering and not english, or I might get upset about this graph.

  25. Halfingr says:

Take the big bang theory out of the equation and put mythbusters in the middle, and that might actually be sorta funny.

  26. Robert says:

EPIC + WIN = The Big Bang Theory

  27. Paula says:

    spelling fail

  28. Alixandria says:

I LOVE the geeks – especially Sheldon!

  29. Sato says:

Well since Physics is applied Mathematics and Engineering is applied Physics, I pronounce this a fail. And besides Myth Busters is the only show that actually USES any of them.

  30. Cheshire Catt says:

    I love that show!
