OMG! This is so me! I even have the original communicator and tri-chorder!

  2. Luke says:

Star Trek suxs. Everyone knows Star Wars is far superior!

    • yasoup says:

      Please define “everyone”!

The original ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Trek: Next Generation’ are deee-lightful!

      • Luke says:

Tribbles? come on…they are just balls of fur they threw around the set. And what about that episode where Spock mind melded with a pile of molten rock?

That show was the CSI: Miami of the 1970′s. It didn’t even make 80 episodes for a reason.

Now nothing can touch the original Star Wars movies.

        Han shot first!

Exactly. That’s why it’s so awesome.

          • jl5691426 says:

Exactly – look at how hokey the special effects in the original Terminator are, and it’s still the best one.

          • Gothgirl1000 says:

Exactly, that’s why I watch star trek. For the awesome tribble stuff. Obviously I don’t love every episode, but why would somwone come oonto a page just to complain about Star Trek? Thanks forthe awesome tribble comment Sunshine.

        • yasoup says:

I know! It was camp-tacular! Just like the original Dr. Who (not the new series with David Tenant!), it had that campy feeling. I loved the movie ‘The Journey Home’ with the whales. How do you transport whales via holodeck? It CAN be done!

          • markmier says:

            Holodeck?!? Star Trek knowledge FAIL.

          • Banana says:

Ahem… It’s the Voyage Home [/comic book guy]

Gotta say that is my favorite one of the old school Trek movies. It had some great quotes. “Well, double damn you!”

Hopefully the new movie will revitalize the franchise even slightly after Berman and Braga drove it into the ground with Enterprise and Nemesis. I never thought any could make me hate The Next Generation, but they did it! God, that movie sucked, and this is coming from someone who finds Voyager watchable!

        • Cosman246 says:

Hey, the original SW movie didn’t have good effects either, until it was polished by George Lucas in the ’80s, and ’90s…

  3. deathbal101 says:

you know you have a life when…

  4. Casa says:

Hey, you can be a Star Wars freak and a Trekkie at the same time. ^^ My plan it to rock a TOS science officer mini-dress, and some wickedly vintage hair and makeup.
    .
    must..make…fanbois….CRY!

    • dylia says:

^ Thank you. There’s really no comparing the two because they’re set in two totally different situations with entirely different technology sets. Overall, Star Trek has the more charismatic cast in general while Star Wars has a much more emotionally compelling story.

      • ClickClick says:

        WIN for dylia!

      • Casa says:

I also like the characters in SW… I’m one of those nerds that reads all the books too. ~_^
        .
But you are very right about the two having very diffrent flavors to them. Some times I’m in a mood for ST some times SW.

        • Cosman246 says:

They do have different flavors. I’m a ST freak, but I respect SW…..but I think that Star Trek has the more complex story, but Star Wars has action….what the action/sci-fi -type audience wants….not to say that I’m one of those types….I just like ST better than SW….

    • Ali says:

Me too! Honestly, what is more totally awesome than begin that rare combination of Hot girl/Fan girl???

      • Casa says:

Ooooh yah, and I totaly intend to work the fact that I’m a tall blond runner instead of a short fat basement rat.
        .
Also going to be going with my giant brother who should keep me safe from any overly rabid fan boys. 0_o

  5. maestro says:

    I don’t get it.

  6. abby says:

i just saw the preview for the new trek last night. i have to say that i was saddened by what i saw. it doesn’t look like star trek at all. it looks like a bad action film. there were lots of explosions and a couple of one-liners and some t&a. i will see the movie despite the terrible preview, but i expect to be disappointed.

and yes, i realize that explosions, bad one-liners and t&a have made appearances in trek films before, but they didn’t make up the bulk of the film as i fear they will in this one.

    • Mazz says:

I really don’t like the look of the new Uhura. And why change the costumes? We all know fashion is cyclical, what’s to say the 60s won’t be back with a vengeance in 300 years’ time?

    • Vieve says:

Can’t remember where I saw it (I suppose I should’ve looked it up before posting, but I just got home from work and I’m too lazy to do so), but I believe the new movie is meant to follow the book more than the series or original movies.

    • Cosman246 says:

Well, maybe, maybe not. Many films do this in their ads just to capture attention, but it turns out to be drastically better. What I don’t like is how many ST fans (I’m a ST fanatic, just to tell you) are afraid of new series….they said the same thing about TNG, DS9, VOY, and some of the movies, but now many of the fans love the new stuff.

    • Devylan says:

yes, i agree. i was not impressed by the preview. but i will still watch the movie.

  7. Anonymous says:

I’m not normally a fan of Star Trek – I never liked the show, and most of the movies were decent at best, in my opinion. But the new movie looks absolutely epic.

  8. dylia says:

But…But…The new uniforms look NOTHING like even the TOS ones! These have a pattern in the fabric instead of being solid like all the others. Okay, that sounded nerdy even for me…

  9. Ryan Russell says:

Yeah, I think I have 2 TNG shirts and one DS9 shirt

  10. the nerd. says:

I got mine for eight dollars at a garage sale.

  11. hotsauce says:

Uh, $200 on Ebay *is* cheap.

  12. ClickClick says:

Just wanted to say GREAT, AWESOME job on the graph! Thank you, graph maker person!

  13. Cosman246 says:

Wow. You knew we were going to get costumes?!

Like we did for WoK, VoyHome, Gen., 1stCon, and the 1st one?

And (some of us) did for SW:PM in ’01

    • Cosman246 says:

When I say (some of us), i mean the all around SciFi fans, or the converts (like me,I was a SW fanatic, now I’m a ST fanatic, and think of SW as 3.5 star (kinda good)).

  14. UBERnerd says:

Unless you are experiencing some sort of temporal anomaly, your graph is flawed. Ebay was not founded until September 3, 1995; The Wrath of Khan was released on June 4, 1982.

I believe you have a 21st century colloquialism to sum this up: Your graph is fail.

    • ms. fits rule says:

i love this lol. this makes me feel old and young a mental fail if you will. by the way what is nerd to the 10th power? me wearing my home made costume at the 2$ movie house in my town :)

    • the pwner says:

      What are you, Data?

  15. bookhobbit says:

Heh, I wasn’t even born when “Wrath Of Khan” came out. I wish I had a costume, though.

  16. Khaliera says:

I don’t have any costumes that fit me (or money for fabric – sigh), but I inherited my dad’s Kirk costume… which, in fact, HAS been sitting in a closet since “Wrath of Khan”. And yes, my mom made it. She’s awesome.

  17. CanKirk says:

I have worn costumes to conventions for the last 25 years; it’s like halloween with a theme, and tons of fun if you like a bit of attention, but I digress…
I have 3 sons under 15, and ALL of them want to see this film! I have o problem with that; they also wanted to see Transformers, and were dissapointed with how fast things moved, sometimes, in that flick.
That being said, they all say the reason they want to see this is that the promo’s rock, and the action i sall over the place, and they like the characters friction in the advertisements…
Geeze.. conflict. action. a bit of skin. ships battling, boom boom, blasters/phasers, and few funny bits!!
Sounds better than an Indy film!!!!!!!!
    PLAY!!!!!!!!!

  18. BringingSassyBack says:

I’m going with my friends to laugh at people who dress up. :)

  19. idaholady says:

U better not laugh at my daughter if u see her, she is 1 tough Vulcan. http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=4158377 And my son was born in 1976 and named James Kirk (last name edited). Better not mess with the Trekkers.

  20. Ari Mizuko says:

Heh…..I did NOT go in costume, but I did go on opening day, as it was the day after finals ended. :D

I’m still in the middle of making four costumes for a convention I’m not even going to be able to attend. Anyway, at least I’m not one of those who became a Trekkie/Trekker (WTF, mates?) AFTER seeing new movie.

  21. Kat says:

I was a “wee lassie” (as Scotty would say) when “wrath of Khan” came out…and I hated it. Not because of the plot or acting, but because of those awful “bug” things that got put in one of main characters’ ears (can’t remember if it was Kirk or someone else…I was too young to really remember it)

I’ve never worn costumes to any of the openings of Star Trek–or Star Wars for that matter. I honestly don’t see the point, because I think that one need not prove their being a fan of a movie or tv series without seeking to totally dress like a character on a day that is neither convention day or Hallowe’en.

That being said, I cobbled together a “Jedi” costume for Hallowe’en of 2004: Cream-colored long-sleeved t-shirt, short white cotton kimono-style robe, khaki-colored pants and low-heeled leather boots. Sadly, however, I could not afford a light-saber that was not in the “kids” section of Kmart. ;-P

I just wish my metabolism were not against me losing enough weight to dress like Trinity (from the Matrix) for Hallowe’en. *sighs*

    OMG thats soooo Neeky
