I WOULD point out that each person that makes such statements proves THEIR country has at least 1 such (stupid, ignorant, etc) person of their own by implying everyone in their country is superior.

However, nearly every day, Obama says or does something to prove we have an awful lot of stupid people here by the fact he got elected… or even that he was candidate.

I mean, with all the crap in advertising we see and hear every day, we ALL should know a con when we hear it.

By the way, how many items around your home were invented in your country?

Well, how far did your space craft take your astronauts? etc, etc,

My guess is they realize that the TV misrepresents a lot of things, and are poking fun at both that fact and themselves. Like, “Haha, I’m a dork!” This is why I find it funny.

Your wording is waaay too strong here. The teachings of interdependent arising, emptiness and the cessation of suffering can be found in the above mentioned schools. But some of the Vajrayana teachings are indeed pretty far out in left field that you will not find a trace of in the above mentioned sects.

I already conceded that it was sarcasm above, but thanks anyway. Others may find it informative. Concerning #3, in the sanskrit, a “t” followed by an “h” is an aspirated “t” that stats like any “t”, but is then followed by an breathy “ha.”

H.H. is only an ‘information source’ if you’re Vajarayana/Tibetan (and in the latter case if you’re not New Kadampa)
He sure as hell says nothing much applicable to Zen, Tendai, Cha’n, Son, or Theravadin schools… Yet Tibetan is sold as ‘THE Buddhism’ in the west a lot of the time…

Ummm not so much…

1) Siddhartha Gautama spent most of his life as an ascetic, and was likely very thin.

2) Nope, god implies omnipetence and control over the earth to some extent. Buddha just ascended to Nirvana which is attainable by anybody, according to most Buddhist beliefs.

3) Since they’re both transliterations, the pronunciation is not exactly fixed. Theravada is frequently pronounced as a hard T in many cultures.

4) Wrong again. The beleif that suffering is a neccisity of life is less of a pessimest viewpoint and more of a diagnosis. The goal of Buddhism is to eliminate suffering by identifying what causes it. You’re probably getting confused by the Buddhist concept of avoiding attachment. The belief doesn’t say that we can’t enjoy good things, it just says that we should not be sad when they are gone.

For example, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a nice dinner, but you shouldn’t be sad if you only have a simple dinner. Either way, you have dinner.
