Eragon was an ok job, Twilight sucked (both movie and book), Eragon book is way better though
And the Alex Rider movie was one of the worst movies ive seen, he doesnt meet the girl until the 3rd book but in the first installment of the movie he meets her instantly

You know it says females “dragged” to the premier. Obviously if you went of your own accord, you weren’t dragged. Also, writing fanboys is easier than writing fanboys/fangirls (Though I suppose they could have just written fans). Arguing this point is stupid because that is not the point of the graph. Just enjoy it instead of whining about it.

By the way, I am also a fangirl. Thankfully, I have better things to do than whine about sexism.

agreed on the third paragraph, but on the gender neutral bit, i differ there- look at twilight, that’s where i think “fangirl” the most, but if a guy likes it, i don’t think fanboy, i still think fangirl- in my opinion, which term is used should probably depend on which gender it is more accepted by in huge majority (if it actually IS loved by a huge majority of one sex)

ALL plural for a female, girl, woman, whatever term you use, NOT an insulting term just a word for god’s sakes…. did he ever say “the easily herded females of the tribe” or “the impressionable females” yes, it is a slightly more distanced, scientific, direct definition word, but that doesn’t mean it automatically implies that you are all drones.

i’m a guy (just clarifying, probably guessed from the name blah blah…)
and there are LOTS of girls on wow /wink
my GF moved away 13 months ago, we use WoW to talk most of the time, and we’re better than ever
of course… sooo not true for most raiding guilds, adeline. i’m a tank and LOVE PvE, i’ve noticed that the ratio of level like 20-70 or PvP 80’s is WAY higher than any real raiding group.

Strangely, I didn’t notice the sexism part until reading the posts. I expected to be the complaints to be about the fact that there’s a pie slice for “people who thought the film sucked” in a graph that is basically about people who thought the film sucked. Maybe the poster wanted to self-identify in the graph without admitting to being a fanboy.

And on the subject of sexism, “fanboy” is not a gender neutral term, and neither is “mankind.” That’s why people say “humankind.” It’s specific for boys/males. To assume that “boy” or “man” can be gender neutral is to say that maleness is the default, femaleness is the exception. I.e., “fangirl” would never be seen as gender neutral, of course it would be specific to women.

Also, I don’t find the term “female” offensive, especially when it’s meant to encompass both women (adult) and girls (child). Male/female is probably the most removed/scientific way to describe sex (well, save for calling someone “XY” or “XX”), which is why it’s used for animals as well. Sharing terminology with other species is not degrading, it’s science. It’s kind of annoying when we have different words for humans vs. other species (like necropsy vs autopsy), just for the sake of having a different term and not “debasing” people to “that level,” whatever that means.

I do agree, movies cant be 100% but they do need to be in the ballpark, examples: Lord of the rings, excellent movie, and definitely in the ballpark.

Okay, seriously, I kinda get the idea that females having to be dragged to these movies is offensive, but are there actually women here complaining that they didn’t get insulted along side the boys?
Fine. If you nitpick about comic to movie conversions you’re annoying regardless of gender. Happy?
Also, why did the creator bother to include video games on this graph? Has there ever been a video game based movie that wasn’t so awful that everyone would be in the green wedge on the graph here?

Ok,I’ll start with the fact that this graph is accurate EXCEPT for the fanboy part should be changed to “fanboys / fangirls” AND the females part should be changed to “girlfriends / boyfriends / friends ”

Calm down. The graph doesnt say every female hates these movies, or even every female that goes to one of these movies hates it. It simply says that whatever portion of complainers that is represented by the slice is made up of girls who were dragged there by her boyfriend/family/whatever.

Who knows, the graph could only be about 50 people, and the slice would only represent 5 or so girls who were dragged there and then complained.

People need to stop being offended by everything.

Guillermo Del Toro- checked out his filmography- I have only heard about Pan’s Labrynth but I saw Hellboy- While it is possible to do many things with makeup and blue screen (even though normally you can spot a BS shot from a MILE away), CGI is an awesome tool that adds much. Having someone stand and deliver a line (emoting) while on solid fire from head to toe is probably best done with some CGI as well as the stretching of mr fantastic or some other super hero/super bad guy stuff.

I’ll chime in with the female geekdom power! What is this crappy attitude that girls only like fantasy (if anything at all) and boys like science fiction. Some of us women types love science fiction; even ‘hard’ sciences like Asimov and Benford, not just the ’softer’ science fiction of Bradbury, Ellison or Farmer.

The graph fails because it doesn’t reflect more than a pale stereotype of the fandom for the genre. Fangirls can be just as rapid and scary as fanboys.

God, Lord of the Rings… I ended up reading those books because my dad read me the Hobbit as a bedtime story when I was little. <3

I am probably the most proud of my Star Wars tattoo, and I’m considering getting more. But right now I’m just representin’ with the symbol for the Rebel Alliance.
(Fun trivia: After a Sonic Youth concert a couple of years ago, an excited drunk man ran up, yelled that he loved my tattoo, showed me that he had the same one on his back, then high-fived me and ran off.)
