I expected the Spanish Inquisition….
Should have started with SPanish Inquisition (GraphJam’s had a couple already), and ended with “this graph to suck”. 4/5
although i kind of like that “spanish inquisition” is at the end. it’s sort of a stronger punchline, if you weren’t anticipating that column’s label. if it you get to the part that says “the spanish inquisition” and you go, “huh. i didn’t expect that to be on this graph, given the previous two unrelated columns,” then that’s a bit of a success, because it simply reinforces that no one expected the spanish inquisition.
that’s what i have been thinking about.
And you are right in your thoughts.
He puts “this graph to suck” at the beginning, because then you think it’s just about expectations of graphs, and so you thoroughly expect it to suck, but then it says something you don’t expect whatsoever, it’s epic win in the order!
So it’s funny because it references a funny joke made by someone else. Yay.
You sir/madam have put your finger on why this graph does indeed suck. My hat’s off to you.
But this is what this website is about. So maybe you think it sucks, but given the theme of graphjam, it is a bit of a win.

Just to explain a bit, that wasn’t actually a random related reference, if you listen in the movie right after he says “we are now the knights who say…” you can hear one of them just sort of burst out saying “Ni!,” idk why but it’s one of my favorite quotes from the movie.
