So very true… You can double that if you have to get up when you have a hangover…
(first?)
“Comfortableness” should be “Comfort” seeing as the latter is a word and the former is not.
Who cares? We all know what he meant. It’s a great graph….dont ruin it by trying to find the smallest error.
It’s a great description of human experience, don’t ruin it with bad use of the English language.
Once upon a time, “comfort” was not a word. It isn’t as if it was used in a grammatically careless way, i.e. ‘Comfort discomfort log’
Creating new words to fill gaps in a language’s vocabulary is one thing, creating new words because you can’t be bothered to look up the existing one is just lazy and derisive of one of the greatest languages we have.
While evolution may be natural to language, I’d still rather be a grammar nazi than ending up saying things like “my harblz. dey needz mor tonr” (quoted from a random ICHC comment)
U R H4X0R!!1
(Sorry, couldn’t resist)
I totally agree, most people on the internet can’t spell, the rest don’t bother.
Comfortableness is a word. Verify using a dictionary next time
before wasting time with pointless and spiteful disputes over your
opinion (when you are clearly no lexicographer).
I used the Oxford English dictionary.
The first cited use was 1581.
There are several varieties of English in the world and none of them
definitive.
Using the word ‘comfort’ at the top of the graph word be intuitively
nonsensical – to my mind – and would need to be qualified by the word
‘level’, whereas the word comfortableness implies a continuum.
Sorry if the formatting is a little odd, not sure what happened.
NO ONE GIVES A FRIG!!! ITS THE INTERNET!!! NO ONE CARES!!!
USE AN APOSTROPHE! *Throws apostrophe grenade and runs*
I HARDLY EVA bother
Just ignore him, there are loads of nikpiking failures on graphjam we just have to deal with them
Nikpiking=?… Nitpicking=What I’m admittedly doing…
Period at the end of the sentence…
Dont=?… Don’t=Do not
‘Comfortableness’ is a perfectly cromulent word.
I saw that episode. *nods*
I think using it enbiggens my vocabulary.
Comfortableness is better.
SO true :<
This is the first semi-good graph we’ve seen for about three weeks.
I really agree with the message, but the y axis left me a little unsatisfied. Maybe at least some sort of unit of comfort?
Agreed. Overall the graph itself wasn’t too bad though.
Fine. If you’re so damn smart, Invent a unit of comfort, design a scale of comfortude, publish a scientific report, go to the worldwide department of units and measurements, persuade them to accept it, and remake this graph with your fantastic new unit. do something useful with your life for a change.
“do something useful with your life for a change.”
says the guy who wrote the longest comment on this graph so far.

Capitalize should…

Oh god, this is so true, happens to me all the time >_<
This person must be under 40. The sad truth may one day hit him like a ton of bricks, when suddenly he’s getting out of bed because his back is fing killing him.
that happens to me and I’m 21
Capitalize that…
Period after 21…
Actually my bed is really comfy, pretty much at all times. Sometimes it makes me moan. Yes, it’s that good!
Lol, the thing I look forward to most all day long is laying back down in my bed at night. Sleeping on other mattresses is fine, but there’s something about settling down into your own bed, with its familiar feel and smell, that makes me the most comfortable. Waking up really makes no difference in level of comfort…
*I meant to say ‘in my own bed’
Whoops…
if you add cats to the bed you will experience an increase in comfortableness proportional to the amount of food in their dishes.
also an increase in pressure and heat… it’s like sleeping with a radiator
perhaps I should asterisk this stat with a disclaimer that added comfortableness will be more noticeable in cool climates.
Capitalize perhaps…
Capitalize also…
Period at the end of the sentence…
Capitalize if…
i’m typing this from the comfort of my bed, in the morning…
you sunuva bitch
You know the funny thing? I *am* a lexicographer.
English is a wonderfully versatile language, and I thought “comfortableness” sounded nice and snuggly and just like the kind of thing you would say when you have just woken up.
I thought about units for comfortableness for the y-axis, but couldn’t find one that seemed satisfactory, so decided to leave it up to the imagination and experiences of the readers.
I like comfortableness. And regarding the CATS in the bed–the more cats, the more comfortable the bed. Especially when they all purr…very nice and lazy-making.
