As much as I wish that were true, it’s not >.< Some of the other… Most of the other girls I know have atrocious grammar…. I blame the school system.

    • whiskey-neet says:

Jeez folks, do we really need to become grammar police on this site? So what if people don’t meet our expectations. They don’t need others pointing out every little mistake they make.

      • Shisno says:

Yes they do, if they’re too retarded to figure it out themselves.

        • You Am Lame says:

          No they don’t

        • Poo and sexiness says:

As long as one can understands the writing, it should be fine.

To enforce correct grammar simply because it’s correct is nothing short of
          annoying and bitchy.

          keap it r3al br0 :3

          • Matt says:

Correct grammar is used to communicate and properly convey what you are trying to say. The less effort you put into it, the more likely you are to be misunderstood. Since it is harder to convey tone and intent without the use of voice pitches and body language, your best bet to get your point across properly is to writer properly. Anyone that does not try their best to user proper grammar on the internet deserves all the ridicule they get.

            • That's Not My Name says:

‘your best bet to get your point across properly is to writer properly.’

              : )

            • huh says:

Someone is a blatant hypocrite. Wait… did I just spell those last two words right??? DAMN IT!!! Someone correct me please.

        • Nina says:

Dude, jus cuz sum1 rites liek this, doesn’t mean they are stupid or that they think it’s proper spelling. And if you actually look it up, it’s not even considered improper grammar. I also read an article about that kind of writing specifically in texting; it’s a vital part of developing communication skills.

Bottom line, it’s wayyy more retarded to make assumptions.

    • FrankiiDoodle says:

Personally I wish it wasn’t true, but I get seriously annoyed by bad grammar and have regularly been disgusted by shops using apostrophes where they shouldn’t. I hang my head in shame.

    • Deimos says:

      Win. Very much so.

      Effing helicopter parents…

    • D.M.G says:

im out of 100% never haz propr grmmer

    • Lianaloo says:

i am a girl and i’m ocd about perfect grammer i correct people so much and my 5th period teacher is a jerk about it she says it’s rude

      • Viola says:

Perfect grammar includes proper capitalization, spelling, and punctuation, by the way. If you’re going to correct people to the point that your teacher calls you rude, you should be following those rules yourself. (i.e. your I’s need capitalization; grammar is spelt with an “a,” not an “e;” there should be a comma between “much” and “and”; there should be a period or semicolon before “she says it’s rude,” not to mention the period that should be at the end of that, and the period that should be before “I correct people…”) In other words, don’t be a hypocrite.

  2. Ross says:

So females don’t use the internet? Therefore, the internet is gay.

    • Ross says:

also, remember when graphjam use to have graphs based on songs and pop culture. i miss those days.

      • NoOneInteresting says:

Maybe I spend too much time one these sites, but I thought discussing grammar (or lack thereof) on the internet was pop culture. It seems to be pretty popular here.

      • srab says:

same! those were actually funny. the graphs i’ve been seeing here lately just remind me of “airplane food” jokes.

      • TheRealWazzar says:

I remember those days, and I’m glad they’re over. Most were unfunny, and done just for the heck of it.

I prefer these life “truths”. At least I can relate to them. :P

  3. this fails says:

Its completely the opposite. Just look at ICHC comments. It is confirmed by the site itself that the majority of their user base is female. (you’ll find it on “advertise on cheezeburger network” page)

    • Fizzix says:

Your point is made moot if you consider that LOLcat is its own language under the Internet family of languages. It has its own syntax and such, and people know what they’re doing when they use it.

      • C'est Moi says:

That’s true, it’s as much a language (well, dialect really) as ebonics. Kitty pidgin, people call it.

  4. hose.ja says:

This is feminazi a bit, don’t you think?

    • ffffffffffffffff says:

“A bit” might be an understatement.

    • PapaJon says:

yeah… nothing like looking for funny and gettin’ a heathy dose of man-hatin’. I promise to remove my penis next time I post so hopefully the grammar police won’t throw me in e-prison.

      • Maeghanne says:

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! That’s hilarious. As a woman that shamelessly adores men (and women not jaded and insecure about their own strengths and abilities) I must agree. It’s this exact sort of generalization and slander that the feminist movement (in theory) is trying to abolish toward their own gender! I think I am seriously thinking about starting an anti-feminazi club for women who appreciate Men!

    • Gundam Hugger says:

So why is it fine for things which insult women to be posted?

      • Maeghanne says:

It’s not. However, that is not grounds for insulting or making sweeping generalizations about the entire gender. People that do that are just jaded and insecure, regardless of gender.

        • Gundam Hugger says:

I’ve seen quite a few places where it’s socially acceptable to make disparaging comments about women, but any jokes aimed at men aren’t allowed.

And yes, this graph is quite correct. On every single online game and almost every forum that I’ve visited, I have found that female players have better spelling and grammar.

      • huh says:

Gender insults are only ok if they are funny. This is not funny. So it’s not ok.

Inb4 “No, all gender insults are bad, BAD BAD BAD!”. Whatever.

    • Radial says:

I thought it meant that guys cleaned it up if girls were looking.

  5. Meh_Ish_Meh says:

Honesty? Fluffy is right on this one. And I do take offense to this since I try and you proper grammar, punctuation, and good vocabulary as often as possible. I do this mainly because being seventeen and hearing my friends talk so horribly I am scared about how bad my children’s generation is going to be, so I am trying as hard as I can to get others to use grammar too.

    • Destin says:

I, myself, am a big fan of proper grammar, but I’m not worried about grammatical degeneration of society…. I’m just trying to avoid ambiguity.

      • NoOneInteresting says:

As a big fan of grammar, you’d think you’d know not to replace a comma with an ellipsis.

        • haounomiko says:

I’d think that you, as a big fan of correcting grammar fans, would know that it should be a semicolon and not a comma.

        • Gibsoncat9 says:

Are you retarded? The ellipsis was properly used (to designate a long pause), and a comma would have resulted in a run-on sentence. A semicolon would also have been acceptable.

          • haounomiko says:

Many style editors these days complain about ellipses being used for a pause because it is overused and unnecessary; I could understand someone levelling that complaint against Destin because there is nothing really being conveyed by that pause. However, that wasn’t the complaint being levelled. You’re right in that an ellipsis isn’t incorrect in a purely syntactical sense, and a comma sure as hell isn’t acceptable there.

        • Destin says:

I knew someone would comment on this. This site, when you a person types four periods in a row, for whatever reason, displays it as three periods and a comma. I don’t quite understand why, but try it out for yourself.

      • Meh_Ish_Meh says:

Well, if you met the people I associate with you would be Destin.

  6. lololollllllllololololoolloolollol says:

Has anyone ever been in the ICHC forums? No?

  7. Seddah says:

I take offence to the comments, lol I’m female and I’m a grammar Nazi. I do make small changes when it comes to internet speak (like using a comma at the end of a sentence preceding acronyms or emoticons), but mostly I use proper grammar and spelling as much as possible. I have to admit that I did laugh a bit at the graph. But yeah, I know a lot of people with horrible grammar and it’s not gender-specific.

  8. Woods says:

This graph is inaccurate, as there are no girls on the internet.

  9. Dawn says:

    hey, i’m a girl, i don’t nit pick at other peep’z grammar.
    hell, i FAILED grammar.

  10. bluejade says:

    FAIL.
im a girl and i dont think on line i have EVER typed somethin that is proper grammar all the way … >.> >.< <..> <.<

  11. Bobby says:

Wow – a correlation fail AND a “add two numbers to equal 100″ fail… all in one graph… amazing… you have to be all kinds of stupid to compose this graph.

I guess they had a sale on mega-retards for Boxing Day.

    • hergieburbur says:

The two numbers do NOT have to add up to 100. This is a graph of individual probabilities, not a distribution. Statistics AND pedantic fail.

  12. Tessa says:

    wow sexist much

    • Gibsoncat9 says:

I know. This is sexist to men everywhere. Everyone knows that women are worse at grammar because they have smaller brains, and to imply otherwise is to unfairly discriminate against men.

  13. Ryan says:

Makes no sense. The average internet female is just as illiterate as the average internet male. >.>

    • Alc says:

It took, what, 40 responses before someone pointed this out? Jesus Christ, GraphJam. I thought MySpace and FaceBook had long since proven that that poor grammar abounds between both sexes (not that evidence was lacking before those two came along).

  14. Lomoco says:

That, my friend, is sexism. A female might find it humorous, but on the opposite side, a male might not. I for one, do not find it in the least bit funny.

You can tell what my gender is, or can’t you?

    • Nina says:

It’s supposed to be a joke…no one makes a big deal when sexism towards females is made. Guys are just more immature usually….unlike this chart though, that can be backed up by fact for the most part.

  15. Adeline says:

Lame. This infers one of two things:

    1. Women have better grammar than men – which is both sexist and untrue. I know just as many women with atrocious grammar as men with atrocious grammar. I might even know more women with atrocious grammar, just based on the fact that I know more women than men overall.

Although the first is probably what you meant, one could also infer:

    2. That when women are present, men try harder to use proper grammar, thus elevating the amount of proper grammar used on the internet when women are present.

Either way, females or no females, you aren’t going to get anywhere near 95% proper grammar on the internet. There are too many idiots in the world with access to the world wide web. 70% cap might be the best you’re looking at.

    • haounomiko says:

I agree with you except for the idea that a whole 70% of the people on the internet can use proper grammar. Perhaps 70% of them can sound reasonably literate and articulate, but many of them are making common mistakes on a regular basis.

  16. Zira says:

Not true. I was once on a little community called CafeMom, (obviously a community for women) which I now call CafeIlliterateDramaWhore for good reason.

  17. Ninjah! says:

I am not sure whether or not to be offended by this. Does it mean that I as a woman am superiour with my proper use of grammar, or that I am teh fail for not being 1337?

  18. Dionysus187 says:

Being mad at bad grammar on the internet is like being mad about crap smelling bad. Futile.

  19. TheRealWazzar says:

You should see my Myspace page. The comments posted by guys are slightly better in grammar and spelling than those of girls.

Mind you, Myspace isn’t known for geniuses.

  20. meh says:

categories should’ve been (in descending order, but not necessarily in this order)
    -normal person
    -in a preschool
    -while playing halo online
    -on a message board
    -on icanhascheezburger
or at least somewhere along those lines. also, get rid of “on the internet” in the title. waaay too specific.

  21. zoellster says:

there are no females on the internet

  22. Uber Dude the 2nd says:

    I would like to say:
    How very sexist this is,
How big a lie this is,
and How I use proper grammar. (I’m a guy.)

  23. Nina says:

Men have bad grammar because they don’t care.
..there are actually loads of girls on the net lol

In my experience women are more likely to pay attention to the grammar they use on the internet.

And you idiots calling people retarded for bad grammar on the internet, it has little to do with intelligence usually, so don’t even think for one second that you’re smart because you have good grammar.

  24. Nina says:

You guys calling this ’sexist’, get over it! DO you even realize how much more sexism there is aimed towards women in this society and on the internet? There’s way more! And men are more immature and that could have something to do with grammar.

  25. Jackarunda says:

screw off, maker of this chart, the vast majority of females are blathering idiots

  26. Ron says:

Hereโ€™s a good strategy for improving writing style with grammar.

    Grammatical sentence openers: http://penningtonpublishing.com/blog/grammar_mechanics/how-to-improve-your-writing-style-with-grammatical-sentence-openers/

  27. burningled says:

Maybe adult women. Teenage females, hell no. If i had a nickel for every time i heard “OMG THEIR SO KAWAII!!!!1!! <3<3<3"

  28. Jim says:

Obviously made by a female. Women are inherently bad at math. 100% of the time when women are involved, then something more than zero without women? If you add that up, it equals dumb woman.
