*facepalm* Yes, the Nude Art gallery director does his job and promotes his gallery like he should, unlike most of the other gallery directors on dA who rarely promote any artwork for the people they are supposed to represent. That doesn’t mean there’s too much “naked” on deviant art, it’s that no one else bothers to do their job.
Stephen picks wonderful pictures as deviations, and he’s been one of the best gallery directors that gallery has had in ages.

Really, people? I may be biased due to enjoying anime, but why would you hate on people trying to perfect a truly difficult style of illustration?
Sure, the fantardedness is annoying. But they’re having fun drawing/painting/shooping, so why hate them just because there’s lots of them?

DeviantART is fun, but I agree it really isn’t that much art. I would more call it deviantSPACE.
I agree with the naked women comment. I’ve been a member of DA for 3 years and only once I’ve seen a DD with naked men.
And I agree also with the anime comments. I like anime, and fanart, of course, when fanart is good.
You obviously aren’t paying enough attention to the DDs then. Stephen Perry, Nude Art gallery director, picks nude males quite often. A large portion of his work is self portrait nudes. He also campaigns for “the evil penis” as it’s jokingly called, due mostly to the fact that so many people act a fool when they see nude men.
No, dA doesn’t have an equal amount of men and women nudity in it’s features, but that’s due to quality AND quantity of what’s available to be chosen for a dA. And frankly, I’d rather see T&A up their constantly than some horrible, half ass shot with bad lighting of a naked guy just for the sake of featuring it because there’s a penis in the picture.
I have to agree with the comments above. Though my ex once made the front page (as a nude model), and she was smoking hot, so I can’t complain too much.

It’s all either snapshots of naked women or sloppy drawings passing off as manga style. There are genuine examples of artistic nudes and beautiful manga style drawings, they just don’t make the front page. And that sucks.

its not that naked people arent beautiful, or cant be beautiful, its that 85% of the artistic nudes on deviantART are not actually beautiful pieces of art. they lean a lot more towards porn.

As a DA member myself, I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment.
DA has a lot of talented people. But, for every talented artist is a kid with a crappy camera or a little time in class with their notebook paper and pencil that fancies themselves a groundbreaking arteest. All you can do is to continue to submit your best work and not worry about the artists you don’t like.
That said, DD’s need to be taken with a grain of salt. I’ve fave’d a few that caught my eye as I was browsing, but I really don’t make a habit of checking the DD page. You can always suggest DD’s, too if you don’t like what’s there…

I’m a deviant, and I gave up looking at the daily deviations. They all blurred together for me, and I can count on my fingers how many times I’ve seen a good, honest piece of work featured.
This is so true, I look at the Daily Deviations every day and there’s ALWAYS at least 2 naked pics.
I do sometimes find something awesome, but most of the time it’s just naked people.

I’d like to know why abstract is being shuffled in with the mass of fanart? Since when is abstract crap? Yes some of it isn’t that great. Some people actually like the abstract style. I personaly don’t have anything on DA but I am a painter and most of my stuff is abstract. I’m tempted to scan some of my abstract sketches and post them now. Just to anoy all the abstract is crap people.

After spending the past 6 or so years on DA, I’ve watched the DDs go from about half and half of cool and not cool stuff to having about one good DD a month. WTF is with all the naked people anyway?
Sometimes I think they pick things because they’re just so… weird. Like art for the sake of art, not art for the sake of being beautiful.

I was about to say “You forgot BE,” but luckily, most of the weird fetish BS generally doesn’t get DDs, it just pollutes the rest of the site, along with crappy (and actually some not-so-crappy in the art department, but still crap because it’s Naruto) Naruto fanart and Harry Potter slash fics.
I’ve been on dA for over 4 years (5 years this May) and I’m so sick of the lack of actual good ART on the site. I’d even be happy if there was good fanart of non-crappy things, but unfortunately, all the good artists tend to have generally dumb tastes in the shows they watch or the games they play (I am HARD pressed to find a visually appealing piece of Chrono Trigger fanart, which is very sad).
I miss the good old days when you actually had to have TALENT to be considered an artist.

This really would be better as a Venn diagram, since most of the genuinely beautiful art is still naked people, that being the majority of classical art too.
Art was never reserved for talented artists. Art by talented artists survives. To be an artist by anything but your own definition really means you make money off of it, which doesn’t coincide with talent all that often.

It’s fairly rare for there to be an actual abstract DD. Although I guess it depends on what your definition of abstract is. If you’re loose with it then there’s a lot of them. Then again I don’t look at the DD’s that often anymore…
