  1. firstcat says:

    First First !!

  2. David says:

Bleh, one of the worst experiences of my life was video editing on OS X. Mac advertises that it doesn’t get those “cryptic, unintelligible error messages” that Windows gets – it’s true, it just locks up and doesn’t do… anything. Spot-on otherwise though.

  3. bewbs says:

Yeah but what about DOS ?
    Playing games – 40%
    Hacking – 90%
    Video Production – 0%
    Watching pr0n – 0%

The creater cleverly omitted that. hmmm.

  4. Ano Nym says:

Windows isn’t suitable for watching porn secretly since it has no virtual Desktops out of the box.

  5. Bill Gates says:

It’s pretty funny, the only thing really wrong with this graph is that contrary to popular belief, Macs have no advantage over PCs for video production.

  6. icefox says:

Why is osx beating windows on hacking? That doesn’t make any sense.

    • Tae says:

Probably because the newest versions of Mac’s OS are bastardizations of *nix now. The real question is why Mac>Linux for gaming when there’s Windows emulation on Linux.

      • GasWeasel says:

Because that same Windows emulation exists on MacOS (Crossover, Darwine, etc), and there are more commercial games for native MacOS than Linux, though not as many as for Windows. Its accurate enough. :)

And as to a previous comment calling MacOS a “bastardization” of “*nix”. This shows a general level of ignorance as to what constitutes a Unix variant. Posix compliancy being one of the main metersticks, which Unix, FreeBSD, Linux and MacOS (among others) currently meets.

      • McSquash says:

The Mac OS is standard Free BSD running under a Proprietary GUI. It’s standards based, not bastardization of anything.

Windows on the other hand is 100% Proprietary.

    • nonnygoats says:

I completely agree. The same virtue that makes Macs virus-free (fewer users, fewer people writing code) also makes for fewer hacks.

Ever try getting key generators for Mac software? Much harder… not that I’d EVER do something like that…

  7. Penguin says:

    OSX FAIL
    Windows FAIL
    Linux FTW !

  8. Alc says:

Someone hasn’t spent much time doing video editing. At this stage I’m more comfortable on XP than OSX.

    • Mike says:

Then you’ve never experienced Final Cut pro kid.

      • Bill Gates says:

Yeah, it’s too bad no other professional-grade video editing software exists besides Final Cut Pro.

        Oh wait.

      • Alc says:

Of course I have. I’ll stick to Premiere/After Effects, cheers.

        • Tim R says:

All Adobe products are on Mac too. :)

          ~Tim

          • Kev says:

I prefer Final Cut Studio on a Mac Pro for editing, but I do my Adobe After Effects work on a souped up custom windows machine.

I found the Mac version of AE a little too flaky, and maybe I could have fixed it, but not when clients are waiting. Which is always.

    • The Josh Man says:

And Linux has some good programs to offer, too. Kino and Cinepaint and such aren’t too shabby. Plus they’re free. Open source rocks.

      • McSquash says:

Linux is amazing. It’s just too bad they’ll never hit prime time. The problem with Linux is that there is no, and can be no visionary leader. Microsoft and Apple have provided consistent GUIs and their users know what to expect. Linux has no Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. If someone stepped into that role, he/she would piss people and “Fork” the project.

Open Source is great for embedded systems and some netbooks, and hackers/admin people. But never prime time.

OTOH Apple has benefited and helped the open source community with their Open Source/Proprietary hybrid

        • Martel says:

…and ironically, atm Windows has no Bill Gates and Apple has no Steve Jobs!
The thing is tho, Linux has the potential to gain tons of users who are disgruntled with the win/apple systems. IMO Linux doesn’t need a leader, just a rebranding from ‘geek friendly’ to ‘gramma friendly’ (but still with the cool geeky stuff for those brave enough).

  9. Ant says:

Maybe it means “hacking” as in the ability to hack the OS itself, rather than to use it for hacking the internet?

  10. ethana2 says:

If you have to worry about malware on your OS, it’s not good enough for porn. I say Windows scores a 50% on that one. Also, Linux is a lot closer for gaming to OSX than the graph indicates. We have several games that OSX does not, due to various developers who don’t give a crap about OS’es that are thoroughly incapable of running on their hardware.

Plus, most mac users don’t know what WINE is; the next Ubuntu (Jaunty) INCLUDES WINE in main and will run Windows apps very nearly out of the box (security warning followed by automatic WINE installation). At that point, Ubuntu will simply be better for gaming than OSX.

Usability is only one facet of operating systems. When you work in security, out of the box functionality, and general hardware support, Ubuntu is the only one left standing.

    • Alex says:

The point of the graph (the punchline) was the part about porn anyway, lol. That was supposed to be the focus.

      • Alex says:

That’s cool about the next Ubuntu, though. I’m looking into it now.

        • A friend of mine thought he had buggered his OS(Win XP) on his laptop, and wanted me to fix it. Windows stopped recognising his keyboard and touchpad(a bug w/his particular system). So I threw on Ubuntu 8.10. The guy has zero computer savvy. *Had*, rather. Him and his kid have taken to Ubuntu like a fish to water. They had a problem with a mobile modem logging on; and managed to fix it themselves.

      • chucknaked says:

        well said.

  11. benny lava says:

i haven’t read a single ‘pron’. does that mean this intentional-misspelling meme (for this particular word) is finally passe? about fvcking time.

    • Alex says:

Look at the comment made by ‘bewbs’ which is the third un-nested comment down. He/she uses the term ‘pr0n.’

    • Kev says:

I was under the impression that the use of the pr0n mispelling was to avoid getting otherwise innocent sites blocked by over-critical firewalls. Am I mistaken?

  12. Athanar says:

Except with Microsoft Office. Then, the hate level is truly acceptable because of it trying to autoformat everything.

I have no idea how to work Linux, I’ve never worked with it, but I like Mac OS X and am actually pretty impressed by Vista over XP.

    • MoshBat says:

Erm… Vista is a *massive* fail. Many are going back to XP simply because Vista isn’t better than XP, though I have to say that it does looks nicer.

Anyway, I have used apple, and I found it’s working to be illogical, though I do like the fact that many shops allow you to use “Notebooks” with Ruby or Perl installed…

      • Tim R says:

@MoshBat: “and I found itโ€™s working to be illogical”.
You found it’s logic not the same as your logic? ‘cos you’re used to XP? Hmm.
I was a windows user since I was 7. Last year I bought a Mac.
I’ve loved it ever since, although I keep my PC Desktop still for the games.
Oh, and the blue nightlight :)

I’ve found with Apple products, you’ve actually got to think to solve problems with it,
Instead of just getting the “computer guy” (Me, in my community) to fix it, ‘cos whatever you do, it just fails.

I mainly changed to Mac BECAUSE of Vista coming out.
I anticipated everything changing to only Vista compatible, and nothing working o my XP any more.
Boy was I wrong. Turns out the smart people hate Vista too! :D

        Bais. I’m doing it right.
        ~Tim

  13. faetal says:

    further proof that…
The internet is for Porn, porn. The internet is for Porn. /sing
    hahaha.
I’m surprised that no one else got this before me. This has been up all day!

  14. FacialTurd says:

‘crack – gain unauthorized access computers with malicious intentions; “she cracked my password”; “crack a safe” ‘ All operating systems store the encrypted password in one place. Everything is crackable.

  15. Destin says:

    True, but not funny.

  16. Sakhalinskii says:

For an intermediate computer user, this graph is awesome. Well done, whoever created it.

  17. Alc says:

    >Windows is Crackable. Macs are not.
Oh dear. Someone doesn’t have a basic grasp of computing.

  18. golby says:

Well, these three colours form the romanian flag..

  19. Mullanaphy! says:

Wow, must say that is a well done graph. Sweet deal, pretty freaking accurate.

  20. Jake says:

i’ve actually had better luck video/photo/illustration with Windows than OsX.

  21. theSpoon says:

I have linux on my main pc, theres plenty of video editing suites for it. and plenty of opensource games (Tremulous anyone?) I’ve even got steam running on my linux box! on the other hand I also have a windows xp laptop. I use this mostly for gaming just because hardware wise its more powerful. I won’t comment on a mac because I’ve only used them a few times and didn’t really see anything special about it.
Also I don’t want to buy the apple brand, I’m (note the I’m and not the you’re) better off building a linux box than I am buying an expensive Macintosh computer. I also tried vista a few times but I found it to not give me the same freedoms XP did, and it has a hell of a lot of features (that I cannot disable) I’ll never use. I also believe vista is very cluttered.
    This Chart Sux!!!111one one LOLOLOLOLOLLLOLL

  22. gedex says:

well, now microsoft need porn expert, not usability gurus anymore, to beat linux and OSX

  23. ninja muffin says:

    lol super porn

  24. Marluxia Kyoshu says:

Windows: assumes you are completely retarded, tells you what to do, and doesn’t tell you how to do it.
*nix: is completely retarded, can’t do anything at all without exact commands and perfect coding, assumes you are a genius.
OSX: looks pretty, does other pretty-looking things.

    • ratholin says:

Actually windows doesn’t assume you’re retarded. It tells you what to do and expects you to understand. Linux doesn’t even tell you what to do because it assumes you’re smart enough to figure it out on your own. OSX app designers often complain about how much time they have to spend dumbing down applications and making things shine and move even when they aren’t doing anything to keep the attention of the average mac buyer. Ease of use definitely leans towards mac but that’s because linux is basically hunt the animal butcher it and then cook it yourself. Windows is microwav your own burrito and mac is being fed jello by a kindly elderly nurse who’ll wipe your chin when you dribble.

  25. diego says:

i loved that comment above. Mac and Linux are way better for watching pr0n. Unless while you are watching porn you are installing windows again on another machine to actually finish watching that asian video. Also, linux does not sux at video editing. Did you know that Wall-e was made in linux?

  26. FNURB says:

Hey the last one is almost the flag of republican Spain during the Spanish Civil war! Jesus I need to get out more.

  27. Anon says:

We’ll always be first. We’ll always say that we’re first.
We are Anonymous, We are Legion

  28. Scott says:

For once I wish Mac users would just own up and admit why they use a machine
with ridiculous markup and proprietary parts.
Because they look cool in Starbucks writing their screen plays and STICKING IT
    TO BIG EVIL MICROSOFT.

  29. SpaceMan says:

Windows is not good at hacking because its user-friendliness.
Linux is best at watching porn because there is no parental control.

  30. 1|23 says:

ok, i agree that linux is the best for hacking.
but let me give you 3 REASONS why windows rapes mac in the hacking section

    #1. Cain and Abel
    #2. CMD > Terminal
    #3. ophCrack

now 3 reasons why windows gets raped by linux

#1. WAY EASIER TO WRITE CODE (ex: perl, ruby, python ect.)
#2. dosent crash while you are trying to write a script, and you get halfway through it and you haven’t saved…
#3. open source programs like metasploit, SATAN, SARA, and ettercap run faster and (in my opinion) are more effective on linux

  31. TehMightyKeebler says:

Wrong, asshat… Macs are just as easy to crack a Mac as it is to crack a PC. The reason they aren’t cracked as often is because there isn’t enough valuable information to be gleaned from doing so for there to be a reasonable ROI. If ever Apple gained the current level of popularity with the general populace which PCs currently enjoy, Mac will be just as plagued with malware and hackers/crackers as Windows. The inevitable will then occur; both Windows and Macintosh will crumble under the general superiority of user-friendly Linux distros, such as Ubuntu, and both will receive federal bailout money from King Obama, i meant President Lenin… Damn Freudian slips.
    Huzzah for communism!!

  32. whatever says:

WTF? Why is mac better a playing videogames than linux? And mac better at hacking than windows? And the video production does mostly rely on the program u use, not that much at the OS.

    B.T.W. Not funny

  33. zap283 says:

Actually, linux is slightly less effective for porn viewing, as its compatibility with flash is somewhat lacking.
