Actually Vanna is around 50. She and I went to rival high schools. She was a class behind me. Liza Gibbons was in the class after Vanna’s I think at the same high school in South Carolina.

Vowels are cheap insurance, and they allow you to buy a little more time to figure out the puzzle. All that for the low, low price of only… TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS!!!!!!!!! (No, that was not sarcasm. The lowest value on the wheel is $300. You can easily make that up with one consonant.)

In many cases, it looks like the contestant has no clue what the puzzle is when everyone at home knows it (yes, even the dog), but the contestant is just trying to make as much money as he or she can. Merv Griffin was a freaking GENIUS.

Also, why do some of the Rhodes scholars on WoF feel that every letter must be uncovered in order to solve? They will have spent 25% of their money on vowels before they solved and won $1000! I guess that’s just a pet peeve of mine.
