kinda good idea, but graph fail.
you cant show differences with a sum…
the point is that they share pronunciation – it’s not a difference
Awww, now you’re just comparing apples to oranges.
And is that pizza pi, or apple pi?
Is this really the best that’s being submitted? Pie and Pi are always pronounced the same, so there should be complete overlap on the graph. For it to work they would have needed to choose words with alternate pronunciations.
This graph is showing all similarities between pie and pi. The overlap in the middle is the pronunciation, saying the only thing shared by both pie and pi is the pronunciation. Everything else is different about the two. Had the graph been titled “Differences in pronunciation of pie and pi” then you would be correct
So…a graph titled “Differences between math and food”…is showing the SIMILARITIES between math and food.
It’s brilliant in its illogic.
Dangit! That’s what I get for getting all opinion-y as soon as I get up.
in which case there should be a third circle with pronunciation as its label being completely encompassed by pie and pi but there isn’t
difference between ‘Pie’ and ‘Pi’ = e
Don’t you mean 2.71828 18284 59045 23536…. ???
logarithmic win!
They are never pronounced differently though, so shouldn’t the circles overlap completely?
Hmm… Maybe not. I guess it depends on how you interpret the graph and/or the title of the graph.
Fail. This makes no sense.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo
Awful. Probably the worst graph I’ve ever seen on this site.
yeah, this latest batch of graphs is starting to convince to stop coming to graphjam
I can only have so much yawn in my day
make a better one. both of you. now. or GTFO!
It’s so bad, it’s almost adorable. LOLgraph.
I thought there was a voting page so the front page wouldn’t get defaced with this crud.
Switch Pi and Math around.
And also switch Pie and Food around
It works better that way. Right now it doesn’t make any sense.
the title is “differences between math and food” not “differences between pi and pie”
If they were pronounced differently, “pi r square”, “no pie are round” joke wouldn’t be funny.
Er. Well. It’s never funny, but you know what I mean.
The difference with math and food is: with food, pies aren’t square.
(Math: pi*r^2)
I think I prefer the tangent (pun!) where we decide the mathematical value of pie.
Pie – Pi = e
Pie = e + Pi
Pie = 5.859874482
or
Pie = Pi*e = 8.539734223
You need to look at it as: Pi and Pie share pronunciation, but there are things that they do not have in common, hence the non-overlapping. But, still, could have been made clearer.
You can keep the same graph and replace “Pronunciation” with “Spelling”
wrong.
stfd.
I get it, and that totally fails to make this graph less stupid.
To make matters worse – how could you even attempt this with a Venn diagram. Surely it requires a pie chart…
/facepalm
*TAZE*
yes, i brought that tazer from failblog. now roll on the floor in pain.
*watches Jake taze himself*
Next time, don’t test it!
It made me laugh. That’s not a bad thing.
Sorry, I didn’t read the other comments.. has anyone mentioned that this graph is crap?
I really hate the new graph builders. Now people with no actually familiarity of actual math or graphs can think they are funny. They are not.
There IS a difference in the pronunciation, actually.
Seeing as in the Greek alphabet, “Π” is pronounced not unlike our letter “P”, with the long “E” sound.
It’s just everyone ignores this fact and goes around using the long “I” sound for some bloody reason.
Yes. They are pronounced differently by many people. And everyone that said this graph was wrong and stupid for that reason is stupid. That said… this graph is still stupid.
The overlapping region is far too large on this chart. Pronunciation is approximately half of all that defines pi/pie? I think not.
In the similarities section:
pronunciation
In the differences section:
Tastiness
Appropriateness for calculating circumferences
Likelihood of containing berries
Locations most frequently found
Number and composition of enthusiasts… the list goes on and on.
Where is the third ring, “pee” ?
pi + pie= pie chart
a ha ha ha ha ha ha…. wait, thats not funny at all…
