I’m assuming that’s supposed to read “barely clothed.”
“Barely naked” is sill naked, and thus only appears on a certain category of “Men’s Magazines.”
I was thinking that barely naked meant mostly clothed.
That means you weren’t thinking correctly. This is a comedic and informational FAIL.
Kind of like a “near miss” is actually a collision?
(ie *big explosion from two planes colliding* Spectator: “Look, they nearly missed!”)
Or kind of like how people “unthaw” something…. wouldn’t that be freezing it again?
Or “I could care less” when they mean “I couldn’t care less”—as in: “I care so little that a smaller amount is not possible”.
“Look, they nearly missed!”
–I liked this joke better the first time, when George Carlin told it.
FAIL-o-rama.
You can be BARELY clothed, or NEARLY naked. Barely naked is like being a little pregnant or mostly dead.
This belongs as a FAIL of the week.
Working hard, or hardly working?
something could technically be mostly dead, as in most parts of it are dead such as a plant.
Sheesh, where are the Princess Bride references after such a comment???
Phezik, I’m looking at you.
You could be bearly clothed. But you couldn’t be bearly naked. Unless perhaps the clothes were dangerously close to your naked body?!
Only if you’re a bear. You mean “barely”.
This graph also neglects the crucial “Dudes with pecs and abs that guys with real jobs can only dream about” fitness market segment.
Not that I’m pessimistic about my chances of getting in shape or anything.
I work 40 hours a week, and I’m in shape. It’s all about dedication and motivation… and eating a healthy diet, and making time to exercise.
Where do you find time for things like “not taking GraphJam comments too seriously”?
sense of humor FAIL.
I’m in shape… round’s a shape, isn’t it?
No. A circle is, though.
Is “Barely Naked” like a “Near Miss?”
You’ve all got it wrong! Bare is a synonym for naked and the author was going for redundancy.
“That girl’s not just naked, she’s BAREly naked.”
i love george carlin
“it’s not a near miss…it’s a near hit…when they crash is a near miss
look at those planes…*BOOM*…oh they nearly missed”
Fail. Would work better as a Venn diagram – women on motorcycles with a cool car in the background, or on the hood of a cool car with a motorcycle nearby.
Yeah, and your point is…?
FAIL
Graphjam used to be funny.
Yeah, I remember that.
As the OP, I meekly submit to your excoriation. I can only say in my defence that I merely submitted the above graph as a kneejerk response to the similar graph about women’s magazines, and was rather expecting that, as per the busier Cheezburger and Politics, it would be tidied up a little and generally enhumourised by enthusiastic graph lovers everywhere. Instead, they have such a paucity of material they post it directly to the blog.
As for “barely naked”, in my defence, it is common (if illogical) British English. Apologies for the internationalisation fail.
