  1. Matador says:

Funny, yet not true for the most part. Though working with alot of food drives, you see some weird stuff, like homemade items and opened/half eaten bags of chips.

  2. Adam says:

They must get one billion tons of Raman noodles each year.

  3. Phizzle says:

Green Beans, creamed corn, peas, tuna, peanut butter, pasta… Yes, that’s pretty accurate.

  4. PurpleBlob says:

No more beans, I told them. No more beans, and please check the best before dates, and no fragile items. Be innovative and imaginative, I told them.

Did anyone listen? No. Unless you count masking tape over the best before date as “innovative”…

  5. DigitalBenjamin says:

The truth about food drives. How many cans of Wax Beans could anyone really eat?

  6. mnashadoodle says:

Canned caviar is always a big hit.

  7. Banana says:

Working with St. Vincent de Paul I personally hold this graph to be true. Really, what is someone going to do with six cans of pumpkin pie filling? At least donate a crust!

  8. Jingles says:

What, the homeless don’t want the 4 cans of lima beans I’ve mysteriously had in my pantry since 1996?

  9. steroid says:

Oh, gee, sorry that the charity I’m giving you isn’t good enough. How about next year, we let you starve?

    • Pastor of Muppets says:

Beyond-sell-date should be called CYA Date. Food doesn’t become inedible for a vast majority of the population, for quite some time after the so-called sell-by date. And considering what some bums eat — try straight out of the dumpster — their stomachs can handle what you consider douchebaggery to donate instead of trash.

  10. jkhf says:

    What steroid said

  11. psychodarko says:

always anchovies and other crap you bought for some reason but never ate….AND SPAM

  12. tardmuffin says:

I’m sure it really doesn’t matter to the homeless and needy what you give — they’re just glad that you’re kind hearted enough to donate anything. Shoot, I’ve been there… I’d eat lima beans if I had to. Beggars can’t be choosers.

    • Elissa says:

Um, yeah–it does matter, if what you give is a completely useless mish mash of stuff, half of which has expired.

Beets, pumpkin pie filling, ramen noodles.

That would make a dish even that “Bizarre Foods” guy on TV wouldn’t eat.

      • ratholin says:

As someone who’s actually been on the receiving end of charity. If you’re actually poor enough to need a food handout it won’t matter if all you get spam, sardines, saltines and canned beets. To those in real need the words of ben franklin “Hunger is the best pickle” ring very true.

      • Tami says:

        Eat them separately.

  13. Riss says:

My family has ‘been there’ too, tardmuffin. Trust me… As a hungry child, I was not glad that people were kind hearted enough to donate can after can of baked beans. I hated them then, still hate them now, and at any period of time where I’ve choked them down they’ve tried to fight their way back up.

That’s why when I donate food, it’s going to be things people might actually like to eat. Canned raviolis, chili, soup. Not beets, lima beans, and ramen where the packages are so beat up the noodles are practically powder.

  14. LHLD says:

i gave a homeless man a chocolate chip cookie last week and he glared at me. i’m sure he wanted money, but i need money too. hell, if he had the innovation to find cardboard and a marker to write “homeless please help” then snub a cookie, he doesn’t deserve the nom-able cookie.

tho, props to the guy who wrote “not gonna lie, i need a beer” on his cardboard.

  15. DigitalBenjamin says:

    Awesome to the 10 Dimension

  16. Muffins says:

Why do they even make crap in a can like that if nobody’s gonna eat them?
