  1. Danyell says:

Wow, you took the SAT in elementary school? Impressive!

  2. I8MYD8 says:

Very true. Some of the dumbest people I know did very well on the SAT. Most couldn’t hold a conversation about world affairs if their life depended on it. Side note…I believe one Ben Bernanke got a nearly perfect 1590 on his SAT way back when, go figure.

    • Dante says:

An observation I agree with. I don’t understand why anyone thinks standardized testing is a good indicator of ability to learn or to do work. Moreover (on a slight tangent), I don’t understand why everyone feels the need to force college on to people. It’s not for everyone and you don’t need it to be successful in life!

      • I8MYD8 says:

College is supposed to mold students to become good little employees. Don’t even get me started on corporations.

      • Chal says:

Because there is a relatively strong correlation between standardised test results and later achievement in school and work.

Quality of life also tends to correlate with level of education. People with university degrees receive better salaries on average, along with other positive factors such as longer life and reporting higher levels of happiness.

Of course, there will always be counterexamples, these are only correlations. Also, correlation doesn’t imply causation.

How many Ben Bernankes are there?

  3. bugwitch says:

I totally bombed the SAT back in high school and now, ten years later, I am preparing to take the GRE. It turned out I didn’t need to take the bloody SAT after all because I went to a community college and then transfered to a 4-year university. All of that stress and worry over nothing. I wonder if I can get out of the GRE without forsaking grad school all together….

  4. dr-spangle says:

In the UK we take exams called SATs in year 3,6 and 9. (ages 7-8, 10-11, 13-14)

They’re very different to your SATs from what I gather as they’re actually important for nothing :P
They just gauge how you’re doing in English, Science and Maths in those years.

  5. BigJim says:

I’m still trying to figure out why there are 4 bars and only 3 labels.

    • Matt says:

This should be moved to failblog.

    • maraquin says:

I’m guessing this gut didn’t score so well on the math section. . . Though, if one can take the SAT in elementary school maybe there’s a 4th undefinable realm of unnecessary reality. . .

    • Marcus A says:

There are actually 6 bars. There /were/ labels for all six of them, but the graphjam people cut off three of them.

      It originally went:

Elementary School -> Middle School -> High School -> College -> Grad School -> Rest of your Life

      Yeahhhh.

  6. Alexandre says:

The title of the Chart and the label on the X-Axis would suggest a line graph. Consider relabeling.

  7. yfrog says:

Elementary school in FL is FCAT. Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
