It’s even worse if you’re forced to sing it. I was in my high school choir, and I can’t stand a single one of the songs we had to sing there to this day. I recently heard one of them for the first time in about 8 years, and I still hate it with a passion. It kind of makes me wonder if the people who make these songs can stand them, either.

This is exactly how I feel about Duffy’s Mercy. That song was okay the first few times, but they keep using it on every damn commercial for everything. I can’t stand it anymore and I go into a murderous rage when I hear it now! OH NO IT’S ON AGAIN ARUGH!!

The perfect example of this was back in the day. Wind Beneath My Wings. Every no talent person on this earth sang it at some talent show or beauty pageant. OMG I hate that song. How about that Lee Greenwood song I don’t even want to mention it for fear that it will be stuck in my head the rest of the day.

I beg to differ. Pearl Jam was pretty good. I still like their music and think the band is very talented.

But so many damn radio stations overplay Pearl Jam that I rarely listen to it anymore, because I can feel myself starting to get sick of it.

Some songs are simply more fun to have stuck in your head than others. That’s the difference between Three Days Grace and They Might Be Giants–no difference in talent, it’s just that TMBG is more fun and less weepy.

I did the same back when Madonna thought it would be a good idea to sing “American Pie” to a happy pop background.

And when Marilyn Manson butchered the 80’s hits “Personal Jesus,” “Sweet Dreams Are Made of These,” and “Tainted Love.”

In fact, the only recent cover I can think of that can hold a candle to the original was when Disturbed did “Land of Confusion.”
