I remember a rather hefty friend asked me if her shirt made her look fat, and I asked, “You mean, fatter?”

I was arguing on a pure technicality of words (You don’t become fat by wearing something, you just look fatter than you usually do), but she took it the wrong way.

Trust me, there is a too skinny. You NEED some body fat to LIVE (there is obviously such a thing as too much body fat, but you need some) Besides, women who are as big around as a pencil are DISGUSTING. My sis told me about this girl who was anorexic and didn’t eat for such a long time that her blood was WHITE and she died. They tried but she hadn’t eaten for so long she couldn’t handle any kind of food.

There was a good sketch on Mitchell and Webb about clothes making you look fat. Webb’s response was that the only way a t-shirt could make you look fat was if you ate it.

The problem with the question is that any guy you ask has already mentally undressed you. In fact, they’re quite proud of their mental undressing skills, and would like to believe they can mentally undress you no matter what you’re wearing and get the same result. So a guy subconsciously reduces the question into something that makes sense: “Does this make me look fat?” becomes “Am I fat?”

And that works great for the guy’s internal monologue. But when he has to actually answer the girl, who isn’t even aware of what question she really asked the guy, he finds himself in quite the diplomatic pickle.

Girls, if you don’t want your guy to lie, just ask him straight up, “Am I fat?” Because the dress was never even part of the equation.
