  1. Einah says:

Oh, I’d put the kitchen right up there too…

  2. Jake says:

The bedroom figure is higher, if you’re going in there with someone else

  3. Karen says:

Remember, they have to supervise all possible actions. :-)

  4. stencer says:

Why do cats always follow you into the bathroom?

    • Kit says:

My cats follow me everywhere, but they aren’t exactly normal. They’re like dog-cats. However, they MUST follow me into the bathroom, or they sit outside the door and cry. Jerks. One day I’ll chuck them into the shower first.

      • faetal says:

my cat is less normal than yours then, mine is not only a dog cat, but likes water. He’s figured out how to work the shower door and hangs out in there.

        • SKW says:

Mine too. He likes to nap in the shower and goes out in the rain on purpose so he can come back in and whine until I dry him off with a towel for extra cuddles. He also makes a point of stretching out and putting his hand on my leg or hip when he’s napping next to me on the sofa. But he always follows me to the bathroom and sits patiently facing the other way when I use the toilet. Strange cat.

      • bukii says:

Mine do that too, and I did chuck them in the shower, and it didn’t do anything :( now they just hop right into the tub and lay down while they watch me do my business.

        • bri says:

omg i thought i was the only one since i think it is so weird. they always know when im in the bathroom even if i didtn see them on my way in.

    • Tehshay says:

i don’t know… mine follow me into the bathroom. they just sit there and listen.

god forbid I watch them when they go.

    • snico says:

my cat only drinks water from the bathroom faucet, but my water is metered so i don’t leave it on all day, so he follows me in to encourage/demand i turn it on so he doesn’t have to drink from his bowl.

      • jimq says:

mine does that too! it’s so rare that she drinks, that i have to take pictures when she does or no one will believe me. so it’s a given that she’ll run in and jump on the counter when i grab a magazine and head towards the hall. my other cat just walks in a watches me the whole time, then walks out when i flush, as if i must be supervised to make sure i don’t poop everywhere. good to know i’m not alone.

  5. Amy says:

The kitchen should be higher. Same with the bedroom, especially if you’re going to bed and they want to play. My cat always tries to come in the bathroom with me, or at least waits outside. I guess my cat isn’t the only perv.

  6. Aerith says:

Actually my cat never follows me to the kitchen and ALWAYS into the bathroom.

She likes to sit in the bathroom sink and have me turn the water on a trickle so she can drink it/get soaking wet.

    • Rachel of Cyberia says:

My cat does that with the bathtub tap. I don’t even live with her anymore, and first thing I do when I visit my mom, she (the cat) runs into the bathroom.

  7. nobuddy says:

It’s the room with the most water – they want to make sure you’re okay. When I’m taking a shower my oldest kitty pastes himself to the glass and cries. I have to reassure him to get him to stop.

The youngest kitty likes to jump into my lap when I’m “reading”.

    Funny graph, Kristi H. :)

  8. Liz says:

Mine not so much follows me into the bathroom, but races me. He always wins. Always.

    • Dang says:

      Mine too!

      • Irene says:

Mine does that too. Sometimes she’s already hanging out in there when I walk in. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve walked into the bathroom to see her sitting behind the shower curtain, waiting for me.

Sometimes she races me to the bathroom, gets there first, but then when I walk INTO the bathroom, she stops at the door. So I shut it, and (usually) get to the point where I’m sitting on the toilet, when she starts crying, unable to comprehend why I locked her out like that. I have to hobble my way, pants down and all, across the bathroom to open the door for her to quiet her down.

Then I just have to worry about the time between rolling toilet paper and wadding it up. She always snags it sometime in between.

        • Adam says:

I like to throw something soft that won’t damage the bathroom door to make a noise to get my cat to stop whining at the door. It usually works. My cat will just sit there quietly waiting for me to finish then follow me into the next room I’m going too. I did this because I got tired of the wasted toilet paper and the hobbling that you mentioned.

  9. ClickClick says:

    Love the above comments!
Mine follow me into the bathroom E*V*E*R*Y*T*I*M*E!
The litter box is in there, one theory is they’re checking to see whether I’m going to scoop it and they’ll have a clean litter box.
The other theory is any human sitting down qualifies for ‘easy to scratch the ears’ position.
    It’s still weird, though.

Hey, I just realized, I should have written this in LOLspeak! (Not!) :-)

  10. mommylicious says:

This also applies to a 4 year old child.

  11. me says:

    Can I ask?
Do you guys mean the bathroom or the toilet?
Where I came from there’s a difference. One room has a toilet in it and the other has a sink and a shower in it.

    • lufflaff says:

they’re all in the same room. toilet, shower, sink. the idea of having the sink outside of the room where the toilet is, is gross! think of all the germs on the door handles!

also, my cat will come out from wherever he is hiding, and RUN into the bathroom when he thinks I’m going in there. he wants the water, though he always manages to get it all over his head. it’s gotten to the point where every time I stand he assumes I have to pee. My bladder isn’t *that* small kitty!

      • FuzzyLeaf says:

Most places with the toilet room, and bathroom separate, have sinks in the toilet room, or well small ones at least.

When I visited Japan, the sink was above, and connected to the toilet, so that when you flushed, it turned on so you could wash your hands.

I kind of like the idea of the two being separate, provided you can wash your hands in the toilet room as well. You don’t use the toilet in the same room you get clean!

    • Irene says:

Where are you from? I understand that in some places of the world, there’s a bathroom and a toilet room, but where I’m from in the US, the two almost ALWAYS use the same entrance. This graph is talking about all of them.

  12. Hello says:

True, so true in fact that I’ll forgive you for making a graph that equals more than 100%.

    • Bagow says:

It’s a good thing you’ll forgive it.. because these are not mutually exclusive events! They are independent probabilities!

    • polly says:

Ya, what’s up with that? Why don’t people understand if you are going to make a percentile chart it needs to add up to 100% and not above? Basic math, peeps.

      • CrazyEmm says:

As Bagow said, mutually exclusive events. The cat can follow you into the kitchen AND the bathroom; it’s not one or the other. Otherwise, you’d be right.

      • Randy says:

You clearly have not used any logic before you typed this.

    • Randy says:

So you think if there’s a 100% chance you will get thirsty today, that there’s a 0% chance you will get hungry too?

  13. Seward says:

Ah, yes. I can strongly attest that my cats indeed enjoy having a captive audience.

I can also attest that I am completely and thoroughly their bitch.

  14. me says:

no lufflaff, I think having the place where you shit in the same room where you wash is gross. Or maybe it just feels weird.

    • Randy says:

I think not being able to wash your hands right after is gross. I mean, who has to use the handle after you?

  15. tiamat says:

My roommates cat didn’t so much follow me as he would wait behind the tub and then come out and stare at me when I was on the toilet. My roommate swore he never did it to her.

  16. Sig says:

I’m so glad I’m not the only person with this problem. Except that my two cats take it to another level. They’re convinced that pooping is a group activity and if I’m doing it, they should jump in the litter box and join in.

If they don’t need to go to the bathroom, they’ll jump inside my pants when they’re around my ankles.

Also, my kitchen statistic is much higher. Like 100%. Any time i go into the kitchen they’re convinced that I’m going to change my mind and start giving them human food. But they were both strays before I adopted them so it’s not terribly surprising they want human food.

    • Crazy Cat Lady says:

Actually, my girl cat likes to jump in my lap when I am sitting on the pot. It was weird at first, but now it doesn’t bother me. It took my husband a while but now he enjoys the company and he is in there forever!

      • wolfie180g says:

oh wow – i am likewise very happy to find out that this ‘odd’ behavior is actually quite commonplace. my 5 yr old fem. kiki will follow me in and as soon as my cheeks hit the seat she is on my lap purring her head off, and yeah you simply get used to it! it seems like i’m the one she prefers – dunno why, but i try to warn visitors just in case. :) when i shower she insists on being in the towel cupboard thats 4 1/2 feet up from the floor and will wait till i bend over a bit to step down onto my back then from there to the vanity. she hates to jump! and i didnt teach her any of that, but it will help when she gets stuck somewhere high – i only have to look at her and let her jump onto my shoulders/back. sorry for babbling!

  17. Danger says:

If I leave the bathroom door open the cat will by 100% chance follow me, and if I close the door she sits outside and cries.
Also the staple for the kitchen should be higher. After 30 seconds spent in kitchen there will most certainly be a cat on the countertop waiting to be fed.

  18. Mayokitty says:

More than true. One of my cats won’t let me pet him any other place BUT the bathrrom. I think it’s a safe haven of sorts…

  19. vervain says:

LOL. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to pee without a kitty entourage. Must be nice.

  20. Melbkiti says:

I always think of them as my life guards, they watch to make sure I don’t drown in the shower ;>

  21. Lauren says:

My cat not only follows me….but he insists on sitting on my lap while I use the toilet…. it’s weird.

  22. Jess says:

My kitty, lucy, does the same thing. (she’s she cries inconsolably if i leave her to use the bathroom, so ive started taking her with me and she just sits on the floor looking at me, so strange. and when i shower, she’ll poke her head in the shower curtain to see if i’m still there, so we started playing hide and seek and she loves it. it’s nice knowing that you have a companion that loves you so unconditionally, they’ll sit with you through anything, good or bad. she also licks my nose in the morning, which is cute, and completely off topic.
