Hermit crabs are the best pets ever! Mine know their names, play with me, crawl around on my lap, they are very affectionate. They just have a bad reputation because they’re crabs and they have claws but i’ve had min for awhile and they have never pinched me. They like my friends and family too, they’ll play with anyone.

I have 2 rats…they’re my second pair.
My first pair died 2 months ago, one from a neurological disease, the other from
a tumor.
Rats are actually one of the smartest species on Earth, and really very cute. Unless
they have red eyes. And they’re VERY affectionate (especially if you have oats, Rice
Krispies, or peanut butter crackers on you.)

My dog pretty much ignores everyone unless he wants something, I think it’s a bit of a misconception that dogs are really affectionate it depends on the individual just like with any other animal

This is untrue. If anything, dogs are more motivated by food. My cats are always cuddling me, even though I am away at college most of the year and not there to feed them every day. They still tend to prefer me when I do come home.

Our dog, on the other hand (and I love dogs but ours is a mean S.O.B), is only nice to people if they hold out food to him. Otherwise, forget it. man :\

Considering that my 4 rats seem to always be hungy and always affectionate, I woud say they’re more like the dogs. It should be noted, though, that affection varies from rat to rat, and owner to owner. My little girl is always the biggest hit at our parties.

Don’t know why rats are that low on this graph, they are very affectionate. And I would place cats above the dogs in my opinion. They are intelligent and wild but still very affectionate, dogs only follow the packleader cause they don’t know better.

If this person thinks rodents are not affectionate, then they have never had rats before….and they don’t know anything about the triune brain system.

Reptiles are biologically incapable of affection, and this has to do with the evolutionary development of the ‘reptilian brain’ (R-complex), where the focus is on instinct and survival.
Many reptiles will crawl all over you or sit still for a long time, but that is not to be confused with affection.

wow, this entire thread is one person after another talking about how affectionate rodents are, with the occasional mention of how rabbits aren’t rodents. We get the idea now, thanks.
My gecko is quite affectionate (compared to most reptiles I’ve interacted with) and comes out of his cave when I come in the room and climbs on my hand when I put it in his terrarium, up my arm, and lays on my shoulder. Not quite the same level as cats, dogs, or rodents, but still affectionate enough for me!

My hamster is just about the sweetest thing in the world. She will snuggle right up to me and just stare at me while I pet her, even falling asleep because she’s that comfortable with me. The graph creator is completely wrong about rodents. The rest is pretty accurate, except reptiles are not affectionate at all.

I had a pet rat and he was the greatest and most affectionate pet I’ve ever had… He would jump up onto my bed while I was doing homework (I would close my door and let him run around my room while I sat on my bed) and he would curl up in my lap… I miss him… He died a few years ago…

Rabbits are part of a seperate group called lagamorpha.
Rabbits have two sets of incisors on the top and one on the bottom therefore not making them rodents.

Rats are extremely affectionate. I’m getting my hand groomed by one as I type. I got two lap rats who love nothing more than to snuggle and kiss me. Even our cats and my dog aren’t this affectionate!

Rabbits are in the order lagomorpha, not rodentia… even so, if people want to consider them “rodents” because of some physical similarity, they are very affectionate and more intelligent than people give them credit for.

I’ve had various rodents over the course of my life and every single one of them responded well and reciprocated to affection. Many of them knew their names and came (individually) when called.

You don’t quite know your rats
Very rarely do the go outside their cage if properly trained.
In fact, you can litter train them.
Mine are more cuddly than my cat, regardless of the presence of food
