I read in one of Groucho’s autobiographies (because he had about six billion) that he actually resented Zeppo for being the most talented. When they did ‘Animal Crackers’ on Broadway, he understudied for the three others.

One night, Groucho was rushed to the hospital to have his appendix removed, and Zeppo took over his role. The next morning, Groucho saw reviews that said that Zeppo was funnier in the role than he himself was, and dragged himself back to the theatre as soon as he was even remotely able to so that Zeppo wouldn’t get more popular.
