Wait, What…?What’s a vegemite sandwich
Its a paste made from brewers yeast. It’s an Aussie favorite.
imagine a sandwich made of salty poo.
and you’ll have an idea of what vegemite tastes like.
Vegemite i do understand is not that appealing to other countries unless your a complete freak who enjoys it.
But being Australian means you get to grow up with it and you learn to love it.
But its not where near like salty poo.
Hey but thats just the whole population of Australia’s opinion.
Hahaha.
Sorry, I do not possess the experience required to imagine something like that…
see wiki …
“Vegemite is made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste may be described as salty, slightly bitter, and malty – somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon.”
I prefer to describe the taste as “yucky.” But I come from the land of American Processed Cheese Food, so what do I know?
Mmm… no, I meant the taste of salty poo
See! Its beer and food! No wonder we like it so much.
I thought he was buying bread from a man in Brussels…
(who was six-foot-four, and full of muscles
I said, do you speaka my language?
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich..)
Marmite kicks vegemites ass!
Marmite is runny and sux and should only be opened when in a Vegemite delted
Trust me, you don’t want to get too acquainted. I think I’m the only Australian who hates Vegemite. It tastes like eating peanut butter made of salt.
hahaha
Left Tassie off the map again….poor inbreds don’t have Vegemite…
Errrr…. have another look. It’s there. Just south of the mainland where it normally is.
…but it isn’t coloured in green.
Yeah well we’ve been in drought for the last 14 years.
Must be inbred
We Britons have Marmite, which is a similar deal. You either love it or you hate it.
I don’t think you’ll find that vegemite sammich in Brussels, but who needs solid food if you’ve got 100 beers to try?
One minor quibble…the man in Brussels simply smiled and gave away the sandwich in response to a language inquiry. No purchase was required.
But it was a place to make a purchase, and they obviously had vegemite. If he had thought to ask, I bet he could have bought it.
This.
ive read its really good for getting rid of hangovers but kind of unhealthy. is this true?
Chock-full of vitamin B.
Man, any day with a Men at Work reference is golden. Thanks!
Isn’t it illegal to export that stuff?
No, it’s not illegal. That’s just a rumor. I’m an American who hasn’t tried Vegemite, but has tried and likes Marmite, but I think we should all sing.
I’m a happy little Vegemite,
As bright, as bright can be!
I always eat my Vegemite
For breakfast, lunch, and tea!
My mummie says I’m growing stronger
Every single week
Because I love my Vegemite!
I enjoy my Vegemite!
It puts a rose in every cheek!
wow, americans know the vegemite song. i knew youtube was good for something…
except it’s “we all adore our vegemite” in line 8.
As an Aussie, I must defend Vegemite’s honour – if only because anyone who doesn’t like the taste is deported. Lol.
A warning to anyone (I’m looking at you Americans) who wants to try Vegemite (and please do) – use butter first, and the tiniest smidgen of vegemite! Seriously, it takes us many years of hard training to get used to having it as thick as most people have butter, and even then that’s considered pretty hardcore (I myself have it a mm or two thick on crumpets, but I’m crazy).
Eat that malty salty goo!
This Alaskan has had opportunities–courtesy of IRC friends in Australia and New Zealand–to try both Vegemite and Marmite. Good stuff!
And marmite is better. Am I right?
Marmite is way better
(*waves new zealand flag*)
indeed! vegimite is the ultimate! seriously i have it at least once a day everyday (Y) shame you american’s now own the company, no offense but you guys pretty much hate the stuff, and i eat it buy the spoonful – literally! nothing better then a scoop of vegimite, good and salty mmmmm
uh, the music is Dire Straits NOT Men At Work
wtf ?! David: FAIL
uh, delete the last post it was stupid, my bad
Sorry ’bout that, I was keying in my post as you submitted yours and I didn’t see that you had corrected yourself.
Six foot four, and full of mussels.
The Belgians are known for eating mussels, which makes the lyric a pun in keeping with the theme of regional food based stereotypes. Mussels-Belgium, Vegemite-Australia.
Hooray for double entendre in pop music!
Also:
It’s Men At Work, not Dire Straits.
Marmite comes from New Zealand, its a much better alternative! Not as bitter. Marmite/Vegemite and cheese toasted Sammys ROCK!
You wusses should try it
makes you tough, like us Kiwi folk
Sorry, didn’t understand a word you typed. Must be the accent ay bro.
I’ll try it when your pansy-ass Rugby team manages not to choke in the world cup, deal? :p
It’s from Britain, newfag.

Erm…believe I’ll stick to Nutella or good old PB (*queasy*) but you chaps have at it and enjoy!
hmmm… Nutella….
^^
I’m a student… I can’t afford Nutella… or bread
that is the saddest thing i’ve heard
*gives nutella on toast*
What about the man in Bombay? (He was slack jawed, with not much to say…)
I asked the man if he’s trying to tempt me, because I come from the land of plenty…
Oh I had completely forgotten the video! I haven’t seen it since about 1984! Bloody hell, my memory of 1982/3 fashion has been clouded over time. But the poor koala. How much can it bear being tied to him like that?
*goes off to spread vegemite & butter on classic vita-wheats*
Oh my gosh, I have ALWAYS wondered what that line in that song was!!!! THANKS
Y’all need to get a life, Losers
I love Australia and it’s Vegemite, but do they sell it in US? Which store? Does anybody know? Thanks.
I wish we had Vegemite here. Such a disappointment. Petition your local grocer for Vegemite, I command it!!!
If you have a World Market (also known as Cost Plus) store near you, they carry Vegemite (stores thru out most of US except the Northeast).
