    lolz?

  2. Nick says:

Not really sure this is correct, I work in a job trailer on a construction site. I have someone that I share an office with, and my back is to him all day, while he’s not in ALL the time, when he is here, I attempt to not goof off as much. But I still manage to for a good 5 out of 9 hours a day.

The ability, and desirability of my office are also both quite high. Although, I’m not in IT. I’m in Project Management.

  3. salohcin says:

I loled. Of course I am in IT and I am on this site right now so I can relate.

  4. Ross says:

I used to work in an IT office, actually it was more like a basement than an office. So many games of baseball played… and I don’t mean a video game.

  5. todd says:

Actually, I don’t understand the glass office one….Can someone please explain this? I thought that you would be less able to goof off in a glass office than in a cubicle since everybody can see you.

  6. zippikat says:

in a glass office, i think your monitor would tend to be facing away from the “peons” walking by, so that would give you an edge over many/most cube-dwellers, no? not if you’re playing actual baseball(!), obviously, but for virtual goofing off, yes.

  7. Max says:

Why is there no desirability in a corner office?

    • g-money says:

I am guessing that a corner office is indicative of someone who has no desire to goof-off at work.

    • Simon says:

In most cases it’s true that the better your office, the more senior you are. If you’re more senior the the work you’ve got to do is usually more inspiring and rewarding, and you have more control over what you spend your time doing and how you complete tasks. You also have more reason to want things to go well if you’re the boss – you’ve got more to lose if things go badly and you’ll take all of the credit if things go well.

If you’ve got an office, you can easily goof off, but you probably wouldn’t want to. If you’ve got the corner office (ie. the best office) then this would be even more true!

  8. rockntrumpet says:

This one gets my PHAIL stamp of disapproval

  9. cindymay04 says:

There’s one critical missing factor here, the ‘Home Office’ which has about the same ability and desirability as an IT Office.

  10. hh says:

    IT office entry=totally accurate

  11. DJave says:

Wow, I work in IT and I bring my laptop to work and play world of warcraft all day! This is true for me, I had no idea it was true for everybody.

  12. Red says:

    total WIN on this one.

IT tends to be behind solid locked doors as well, so you have a nice heads-up when someone is coming.

Having worked IT and currently working splitting days at a cube farm and home, I agree all the way on this.

  13. Peter says:

My IT office lol’d. it’s pretty much the story of our lives. we then had a lan tournament until teh network went down

  14. 3ntropy says:

thanks for shutting my brain off due to overload. douche

  15. lunchbox says:

You forgot one key place, with both more desirability and ability are both way above and IT office – The Warehouse/Stockroom. Internet, Locked Doors and managers too busy with other issues to come back and check on what the ICS guys are doing….

  16. J says:

LOL, The IT is right on. I come in around 9..ish, leave 3..ish with a lunch somewhere in between. Sometimes lock my office door and nap. haven’t had a chance this week, had a couple server crashes. Being a computer nerd is awesome!

  17. Cara says:

So yeah, I’m kind of a medium boss, in an open plan office, and I tend to not goof off much at work. Goofing off for me is reading the news websites during my lunch half hour.
Cnr office/glass office thing, totally makes sense. Those in boss positions actually have work to do, and get in sh*t if they don’t do it, and they probably enjoy it.
I call IT and they just tell me about how they’ve been goofing off, and how they’re going home early…
