  1. SRO says:

    OMG!! That is SOOOO true!!!

  2. Max says:

    First!
BTW, I’m 23, and I still think my father is one of the smartest people on Earth.

    • whitey138 says:

then just think, according to this graph, of how smart he should be in a year or 2.

    • Folx Numeroso says:

Well, just because he’s one of the smartest doesn’t make him that smart. Perhaps him being so comparatively smart (cite: smartest in the world comment) is simply a statement of how stupid the other people in the world are.

      • 3ntropy says:

        FAIL

      • lolninja says:

“Well, just because he’s one of the smartest doesn’t make him that smart.”

…what? a) A superlative generally implies whatever adjective it is based on, and b) why are you debating Max’s opinion?

      • Maddy says:

er . . . actually, I don’t think Max was playing the mai-daddeh-kix-ur-daddeh’s-ass card. I think he was just pointing out a contradiction to the graph.

while we’re on this subject, though, I’m 13 and am completely aware that my dad is an incredibly intelligent man. so it’s really more like “level of parental IQ the children are willing to recognise vs. child’s age” type-deal. :)

    • Somebuddy says:

What’s sad is that you’re 23 and trying to comment “first!” on the internet.

Even worse, you failed at it!

  3. Joolz says:

It’s amazing how much smarter my parents became as I got older. When I was a teenager, yeah, they were pretty dumb.

  4. Pete says:

Shouldn’t that be ‘Perceived Parental IQ’?

  5. Bri says:

i agree with pete. still hilarious though.

  6. Constantine says:

Actually, I thought my parents were stupid when I was really young.

  7. Jim says:

    I agree, perceived parental IQ

  8. Mel says:

Kinda, teenagers do drain the brain…

  9. ellahydew says:

Hmm…not true for all of us though. The older I get the more I’m surprised I survived those years where I was totally reliant on my mother.

  10. The Rev. says:

Unfortunately, as with all laws of social science, the exception does not disprove the rule. Dad’s IQ hit rock bottom when I was 13, and now it’s ten years later and he’s begun jack-hammering at the floor. Mom, on the other hand, has followed the graph fairly religiously. Her problems aren’t matters of intelligence.

  11. Joseph says:

I remember many times dad saying “well, maybe I’m just stupid, but…”. Oh how that infuriated me.

  12. Greg says:

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

  13. Paul says:

It’s true for my dad, not so much for my mom. I’m 16, and my dad is borderline retarded.

    • FOOST says:

      mine too!

      • Mohammed5000 (a.k.a. Dragonite Paladin) says:

        Couldn’t agree more.

BTW…… I’m 16 and I’m certain my Intelligence isn’t like that…this graph fails in many ways….me and my friends are quite serious and proper unlike conventional stereotypical teenagers. And also………this graph fails the most because from my point of view teenagers are a lot smarter and more serious these days than back then….but i wouldn’t know much better than anyone because it all depends on the location, environment and circumstances (people, events) that affect the teenagers.

  14. killing_gulls says:

So, how many of the people stating “this is sooo true” are aged 21 and under and how many actually have perspective?

As previously stated by others in the post – “Perceived Parental IQ vs Child’s Age” would be more accurate. Unless the person making the graph was young, naturally. It’s all about perspective…

  15. barbx says:

Would have been better if it had followed the logic of the Mark Twain quote:

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

  16. sonicscrewdriver says:

I think I made allowances for my parents as a teen, I figured I must be pretty stupid myself then. Now I’m older (late 30s) but my folks just seem to get stupider with every year, really out of it yet convinced they’re always right.

    Still a funny graph though.

  17. RainbowPaint says:

I have an IQ of Zero.

  18. Maddy says:

I think the fatal mistake here is that the grapher assumes that the parents in question actually have a reasonable amount of intelligence, despite their teenager’s viewpoint.

if your parents are anything like my mom, the IQ level hits zero at around age eight and by the time you’re twenty it’s dropped into the negative range.

  19. Mike says:

I heard a take-off on the Twain quote that fits this graph exactly!

When I was 7, I thought my father was the smartest man in the world. When I turned 17, I realized he was actually the dumbest man in the world. When I turned 27, I was amazed how much he learned in a decade.
