D00D. I thought I was the only one who felt this way! I work on 52nd and Fifth, and it’s a daily battle not to start ripping off heads when they cross a busy street and then STOP, leaving the people behind them standing in traffic. I want to go, “HEY! Do I come to YOUR town and stand in all the parking spaces taking pictures of trees? Do I park my car in the middle of your freeway? NO!!! WTF???”

Yay for them liking our city… lovely. All I ask is that they show some FREAKIN COURTESY and realize that it’s a CITY, not Disneyland. They say NYers are rude… well, if you stand in the middle of a busy sidewalk ignoring the literally thousands of people who are OBVIOUSLY trying to get somewhere around you, what does that make you?

For future reference, it’s fun to film tourists. Do you know how people react when they say people are photographing them just as they’re photographing other people and places? Great fun.

I was going to correct you and note that Times Sq is only W 42nd, but you’ll find just as many tourists in Times Sq, so you’re right.

Broadway and anywhere between 42nd and 50th is ridiculous to get by that early in the morning. Yes, there are a fair amount of locals trying to get to work (me), but the number of tourists is horrifying.

The logical answer, of course, is that only idiots go to Times Square on vacation. And if you doubt the veracity of this claim, I suggest you get off the subway at 42nd street and take a look around.

This is the breakdown of Times Square during any hour between 8 am and midnight. After that the tourists hide like frightened rabbits.

This chart explains why one of my favorite pastimes is walking through Times Square yelling “Gah! Freaking tourists!” whenever I see someone with a camcorder.

Obviously you’ve not been to Times Square at 8:00 am. I’m there about that time every day — and I can tell you it is mostly NYers trying to get to work.

Because some tourists don’t know how to vacation. To them, vacationing is work and they need extra time to chill out before going back to the work that pays them.
