  1. ninjacat says:

its revved up lik a deuce bcuz wrapped up like a doushe dont make sense

  2. Adhe says:

    I admit. I’m a blue ;)

  3. ninjacat says:

unfortunately fer u its revved up bcause wrapped up lik a doush dont make sense

    • Pete says:

Since when do song lyrics have to make sense?

    • Adhe says:

Well, douches in the store are discreetly packaged, yet have explicit directions on the box. So they are wrapped up at one point in time. It could refer to something trying to mask it’s identity with it’s outward appearance but fails at masking itself by it’s actions. “Revved up like a deuce” makes no sense to me (well, until I scrolled and found out that a Deuce really is a car). I’m not arguing that I’m right. I’m sure you’re right and I’m wrong. I’m just explaining where us blues are coming from =) However, I wouldn’t put it past them to really say douche just to mess with people’s heads. “Hahaha. We’ll say douche and 20 years from now people will still be fighting over it! HA!” I know I would!

  4. 3ntropy says:

OMG!!! I NEEDED THIS ONE!! LMAO. i’m a red…you know those musician types and their shanigans…

  5. Scot Z says:

What about those of us who know the line as originally written was “cut loose like a deuce”?

    • psipsina says:

Or those of us who are irritated that Mannfred Mann thought they could make Springsteen’s lyrics better?

  6. PhadedGoddess says:

My mother introduced me to this song, it presented two challenges
    1) What is a “douche” Mom?
    2) Why can’t I sing the part “messing with his frozen zone, reminds him of romance” in the talent show?
Don’t get me started on Dust (ducks, I swear I heard ducks) in the Wind :)

    • Jane says:

I used to think Madonna was singing that she was a Cheerio Girl. It made perfect sense to me because at 5 years of age, I too was a Cheerio Girl…

  7. Soap says:

    Where is the fourth category:
    Those happy in their ignorance?

  8. Squee says:

I always though it was “Cut up and abused”

    Maybe i’m just a sadist.

  9. rosie says:

I heard this song on the radio today and sang the right (blue) words very loudly.

I hope my children weren’t listening.

  10. Dite says:

Blue here. Love the song. Love the Graph!

  11. me says:

Red here – thank God I’m not the only one!

  12. Lori says:

Scot Z is right. Bruce wrote it “Cut loose like a duece.”

  13. lraininspain says:

Oh, Thanks!! Just spit my Coke all over the screen on that! Good one!

  14. Pippi says:

You mean it’s not “wrapped up like a douche”? Srsly!? What does revved up like a deuce even mean????

  15. Justin says:

Now I’m a blue. I used to be another category: People who sing “wrapped up like a douche” but know it’s wrong and have absolutely no idea what the real lyrics are.

  16. lili says:

I’m going to guess by deuce it’s for “deuce coup”- the kind of car. (DOn’t the Beach BNoys sing about a Deuce Coup?)

  17. reed says:

It’s a car. I used to think it was revved up like a douche, but how would you rev up a douche? So I looked up the lyrics.

  18. Eva says:

I think the blue is supposed to read “people who CLAIM that they KNOW” instead of “people who KNOW that they CLAIM…”

    • Psipsina says:

No, it’s people who know that they (i.e., Mannfred Mann) claim that it is one thing, but that’s not what they are really singing.

  19. ClickClickNow says:

Now that I’ve listened to it again, I swear it says ‘wrapped up like a deuce’.

So many be someone’s gettin’ a present. No, don’t go there!

    • wonder mutt says:

Mugatu is so hot right now that he could take a turd, wrap it in a piece of tin foil, put a couple of hooks on it and sell it to Queen Elizibeth as a pair of earings.

  20. Nat says:

i swear it sounds like hes saying revved up like a douche. theres some definate “ch” action going on towards the end of that word there, that the word “deuce” sorely lacks.

not that i doubt he means to say deuce, especially since douches dont really get revved.

  21. Poppyseed says:

Now that you made this graph the red zone will shrink and the other areas will expand. Now you have to make a revised graph!

  22. Tresses says:

Read his lips during the video…All through the song his lips touch; it *looks* like he’s singing “wrapped,” until the very end when they’re all singing – and then it looks like he’s singing “wrecked.” The mystery deepens. o_O

    • pepperjackcandy says:

Yep. He’s clearly bilabial-ing, or whatever you call it (consitent with “b” or “p”), and not labiodental-izing (consistent with the letter “v”).

Now if someone can just explain to me what a “labialized ʃ” looks like, we might be able to solve the “deuce/douche” thing.

This comment assembled with the help of wikipedia’s article on the phonology of the English language.

  23. Theresa says:

What about “I’ll never be your pizza burger”?
And “There’s a bathroom on the right.”

  24. mark says:

Springsteen talked about this on an old SNL episode, I think. I remember seeing him, but not 100% sure I have the show right — it coulda been Letterman or something. Anyway, he said he wrote “cut loose like a deuce” meaning a deuce coupe. He acknowledged that Manfred Mann changed it to “wrapped up like a douche” and just laughed about it. I think he said something like “theirs sold more records than mine.” But if you listen to Bruce’s version, there are several cool verses with awesome lyrics that are missing from Manfred Mann’s goofy-ass version.

  25. Hyuzen says:

Where would I fit if I thought it was ‘revved up like a douche’? I had no idea what that mean so revved up like a deuce seems better.

  26. StingRay says:

I caught the “revved up like a deuce” but it’s what follows that baffles me. “Mumble mumble mumble in the night.”

  27. webkat says:

    You’re forgetting Springsteen’s “…cut loose like a douche…”

  28. Inara says:

I think that blue section needs to be much, much larger…

  29. Charlie says:

What about “’scuse me if I kiss this guy?”

  30. Jake says:

I’ve always enjoyed the original Springsteen version to the Earth Band one.

  31. alb_nutty says:

as soon as i saw this the song started playing on the radio… wtf… o-o
    COINCEDENCES SCARE ME YET AGAIN o_________o;

  32. asdfasdf says:

i thought it was “revved up like a douche”

  33. heather says:

Oh thank God, I thought I was the only one who thought it was ‘wrapped up like a douche’. This song confused me no end! Love the graph :)
