  1. Nerdette says:

Sadly, I think the index finger is used considerably more.

  2. LoonieBin says:

Been done, but this one’s better.

  3. ema says:

Not sure ring finger is ever used… ??

  4. John says:

@ema: There’s an old visual joke that I learned while growing up in NY… You hold up your middle three fingers and say, “read between the lines”… That’ll account for the occasional use of the index and ring in anger… :-)

    • tron says:

Along those lines, there’s holding up all fingers _but_ the middle one, and saying “Fill in the blank!”

      • Dalisair says:

Or holding the middle down with the thumb and saying “Un&%(* you, may you never get f*&#)@ again!”

      • NEOmusings says:

Or what Judd Nelson did in “The Breakfast Club”: Extend middle finger pointing down, “Can you hear me?” Rotate hand so middle finger is pointing up, “Or do you need me to turn up the volume?”

  5. sarah says:

    ohhhhh clever

  6. Jane says:

I don’t think the creator of this graph is actually trying to represent how often other fingers are lifted in anger, I think he/she is going for a visual joke where the graph looks like a middle finger. If you “got” it and still pointed out that it wasn’t technically correct then you have too much time on your hands.

    • jake says:

Jane aka captain obvious whats everyone to know it looks like a middle finger

      • Ka DUHR says:

What’s sad, Jake, is that she absolutely had to. CLEARLY alot of these people don’t get it. She’s not being captain obvious, she’s trying to bail out the morons.

        • Mike says:

Actually, Captain Obvious is there to bail out the morons, and also mock them.

It may have been possible to do this graph better, but it’s good enough to convey the joke properly. Good job 7/10

  7. Reutan says:

Note, the relative extension, not the relative usage. referring to the extension gives the position. So it doesn’t ever count the usages, sorry Ema.

  8. Anne R. says:

What about the Italian hand sign “putting the horns on” a guy? Of course, that would muddy the visual impact of the graph.

  9. stop, Jane, stop says:

Jane – the irony of you taking the time to point out the joke is inspiring. I hope, one day, to be as oblivious as that.

    Cheers!

  10. Richard says:

Actually tron, a middle finger means ‘Up yours’ or ‘Up your arse’.

  11. hxc says:

    thumbs down, ha ha.

  12. Boob Biter says:

Photoshopped, the pixels are all wrong

  13. PTPenguino says:

The first time I ever tried to “flip the bird” – I had never done it before, not even to try – I was VERY angry…. I don’t know how the muscle response triggered exactly, but I flicked my pinkie finger. Oops.

But now I use the gesture to express my annoyance at my brother (the original recipient), and no one else is the least but offended.

  14. OJ says:

A thumb is not a finger

  15. amorphi says:

    aesthetics WIN!

  16. douggie says:

    ’shopped’

  17. Cole Kerr says:

In Texas, they use all of their fingers when they are angry with their wives ;)

  18. demosthenes2k9 says:

    Blah blah blah…

    RETORT!
    OBJECTION!

I’m sorry, but whenever I think of fingers and anger I think of the Phoenix Wright games
