Well, I think calling “y’all” and “ain’t” poor grammar is a bit unfair. It’s just a bit of colloquial abbreviation, not quite an all-out bastardization of the English language. Also, getting mouthy and defensive is childish, no matter how nicely you spell.

Okay, people who are talking about the south being mean, have you every actually *been* to the south, or are you just assuming that we’re mean because of what people say? I promise you, I’ve been to almost every state in the United States, and I’ve lived in Texas my entire life. There are no nicer people than those in the south. Whenever I’m anywhere in the north, New York City especially, people are rude and mean. You guys are all terrible drivers, you honk and yell at people, it’s really irritating. Now, I know that by all means that all people from the north are definitely not like that, but you guys definitely have a lot more assholes than we do down here. Texas is very hospitable and everyone is really nice. Every time you pass someone on the highway outside the city, everyone waves at you as you pass. It’s called the “Texas highway wave”.

I love Texas, it’s probably my favorite state, but I’m biased. Aren’t we all Americans? I’m proud of our entire country, and I’m essentially proud of the world as well. We’re all humans, can’t we just get along by that unifying factor alone?

Well let me just add my two cents in here…

As someone who grew up in Canada who moved to Texas (and is now trying to get BACK to Texas…why on earth did I ever leave?!) It was one of the best experiences ever…everyone was SO much more friendly than they were back in Canada…I became an instant “part of the family” and really would prefer being back in Houston than being here in Vancouver.

(By the way…I love the chart…made my day when I saw it!! And yes…I know it’s just for fun.)

I’ve had several northerners come visit me in Texas and they’re AMAZED at how nice and hospitible we are down here (Houston, TX) and everytime I go up to Chicago or New York I’m greeted with sour faces. But I think that all of America is beautiful, just some parts more than others

As an Aussie in Texas, may I ask, what do you think of us? ‘Cause my papa (meaning grandfather) has nothing but nice things to say about the people from Australia he met during his years in the service, as opposed to people from other countries. He says that he feels a kinship with them in a way.

In Oklahoma, we see Texas as our south-facing deck. Sure, it needs some serious redecorating, and the mosquitoes could carry off a cow, but there’s room for the kids to run around, and no-one really cares what you do to it ’cause it was just built to get torn up anyway.

(Anyone who argues with the “torn up” bit has obviously never driven through road construction in Texas. It makes Oklahoma construction look like a pothole.)
