  1. dan says:

i would argue that the interest spiked maybe 10 percent when david beckham landed in LA (but in general, what a failure to attract interest that was!)

  2. daisy4given says:

    agreed, dan.

  3. geekd says:

I would argue that even during the world cup, the percentage of Americans interested in soccer is less than 10%

  4. Dum.... says:

I would argue that it is difficult to see what the rest of the world does if your head is stuck up your, or someone else’s, rectum.

Of course, I am not saying that ALL Americans ACTUALLY have their heads up their, or someone else’s, rectum, as may merely act like it.

    • tyler says:

:/ i like to think my head comes out of my own, or someone else’s, rectum at least SOME of the time, and i’m american :/

  5. anonymous says:

i would say that the graph is accurate regarding the time frame of interest, but it should only be like 10% tops. who cares about soccer? it’s such a stupid boring waste of time. and i’m pretty sure that virtually no one in the US is interested.

    • Rookie says:

Maybe no one you know…but I guess you haven’t looked at a rec complex lately and seen the hundreds of kids up there playing soccer…or have heard of all the people in this country who follow European soccer teams. Personally, I’d say soccer is a hell of a lot more interesting than something like, say, football (the American kind).

    • Lysenko says:

“Stupid boring waste of time”? I’m pretty sure that virtually no one in the rest of the world is interested in baseball…

  6. The Manticore says:

why does the # of months til go to twenty? World cup is every year…right?

  7. Blah says:

isn’t that about 99% too high? Kids play soccer because parents are pricks and force their kids into sports. Football is too expensive, and baseball is in the spring. Ive never heard any native born American talk about soccer at all, except when that chick ran around in her bra after scoring, and that was less about scoring and more about tits.

  8. harrison rein says:

soccer is the most interesting and popular sport in the world, and my parents were one of those “pricks” who pushed me into soccer. and tell you the truth i’m glad.
and football is just a cheap copy of soccer, made to satisfy poeples need for violence.

  9. Feynix7 says:

Why can’t we all just get along and watch curling?

  10. Nick says:

The florida marlins or memphis grizzlies would be glad to get half as many fans at their games as compared to the average MLS team. The beautiful game is growing here, just give it time.

  11. Jayme says:

How about you all go do some research on the lovely sport of soccer and you will see that it is currently the fastest growing sport in the United States and the amount of spectators is rapidly increasing and will soon pass up the number of spectators for the terrible sport of football.

  12. ben says:

If you notice, the y axis represents percent of fan interest, which means this graph is normalized to the total number of soccer fans in the US, not the total number of people in the US

  13. Darryl says:

Soccer, yeah right that’s a real cute sport. Specially the way you bouce the ball over your head. I personally don’t like any sport where you don’t use your hands.
