“Split into more than part”?
Must try harder.
Forgive my ignorance, but I think I need a cheat sheet for this one. I don’t get it.
This is awesome, except for one crucial flaw: papers generally fit more than one of these categories! Nevertheless, I LOL’ed.
Oh man, I just did my thesis. This is so very true. I LOLed and then I cried.
Tex, a “paper” is what they frequently call the thesis paper that you have to write to get a Master’s degree or Ph.D. They’re usually somewhere between a small book and the biggest freakin’ term paper on Earth. They’re the final thing you do to prove yourself worthy of the degree you have been busting your butt for. A meeting is set, and in front of an audience of your professors and other experts in the field, you present your paper and “defend” it. That means they ask you questions and pick out any flaws in your work, and you have to defend your methods or conclusions. It’s REALLY nerve-wracking… my duplex-mate just did hers today and has been a nervous wreck for weeks about it. I need to find out if she’s a Dr. now!
Just like everthing else in life, there are good papers and bad. Sometimes papers are so good they inspire new ideas in their communities. Other times though, they’re only slightly better than half-baked. So the graph is a joke about some of the common flaws that are found in student thesis papers. I hope that helps?
nice LOL
Suz, Perfect explanation. I know what a thesis IS, but didn’t know the process. (Managed to make it with a BBA and not have to write one. Yay!)
But now that I get all the critical nit-picking… the graph is much funnier.
Thank you!
And best of luck to all you thesis-ers out there.
Heeheeheehee… very good.
But don’t forget your author list… http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=562
Just because you call it a meme doesn’t make it so. Also fail grammar is fail.
