Bono didn’t really start wearing sunglasses all the time until the late ’90s or early ’00s, although he did create the character “The Fly” during the 1992-93 Zoo Tour that always wore sunglasses, he removed them for the majority of the show.

Thank you John for setting the record straight on the glasses. But to be even more anal retentive, the good music dipped during Pop (1997). Before and especially after that, the bar rocketed back up. Or is back to back grammies for record of the year and 13 other grammies in the 21st century an inaccurate measure?
Actually yes; a bunch of industry puppet-masters awarding their minions in a self congratulatory manner akin to a mass circle-jerk is not enough to gauge a persons musical merit on. =)
In saying that, Bono’s music has become better of late, but I don’t think they will ever get back to the pinnacle of their ‘Rattle and Hum’ days IMHO.
